FFS university.

Why the heck is 11:30 considered an afternoon class when it doesn't start in the afternoon?

Why the heck is a 4:00 class considered an evening class when it starts in the afternoon?

My university apparently doesn't open until 12 today, but my 11:30 class is still on.

My city rarely plows the sidewalks. So walking to the bus at 10 is going to be SUPER FUN.

At least your city occasionally plows the sidewalks. Halifax never does. They have a bylaw stating that it's the responsibility of the property owner to keep their sidewalks clear. Result? The juniour high on my road didn't have school today and thus, didn't clear the sidewalk on the front of their property, so my options were walking through 40cm deep snow or walk in the road. The worst part was getting to the end of the sidewalks that were cleared and finding you have to climb over 4ft high drifts to get to the crosswalk. Yes, we had classes this morning. And I have to go back to campus this afternoon for an o chem lab.

On Tuesday/Thursdays, I have an 8am power lecture. I always want to eat my lunch before 11am, which happens to usually be during my microbiology lab (so no eating!).

I really feel like lunch needs to be post-11am, but gosh darnit I get so hungry. 🙁 I have already destroyed some fruit snacks and sun chips. Om nom nom trying to save my sandwich for after 11...

What type of computer monitor do you have? It took me a while to realize that the glare from the glossy screen on my Macbook was really messing up my eyesight. Makes my eyes feel like everything is kinda dim for the rest of the day. Sometimes it helps just to severely cut down on computer time and focus instead on a book or getting out for a walk.

I have a Dell, but I only have a desktop and that's (obviously) at home all day. Thing is that I've had this monitor for at least three years and this is just happening now. Plus, I'm not even on the computer itself all that much every day but (for example) my biochemistry lecture is taught so that instead of writing on the board he's writing on a tablet that projects as like a giant monitor which is essentially like looking at a computer for an hour and a half. Today's actually better so it may just be that I need to readjust myself to being back in the classrooms.

Kaydubs, it depends how much you want the English lit minor. If you want it, take the class and tell the professor that while you understand her position, you really CANNOT compromise on missing on your interview day. If you can avoid missing any other classes (or get a letter from the department head!) stick with it. I have to miss three days myself but all of my professors have been understanding. I'll have to catch up on all of the notes, though, which will be the hard part.

Added bonus: my mom called me a quitter.

Quitters don't get interviews at Tufts.

Good luck with the department head, it seems like those "absences" should be excused, IMO.

Thanks squibby! You know, you'd think my mom would realize that. But I know she doesn't get it... when I dropped one of our honors programs after the new director turned out to be a TOTAL jerk, I told my parents what I was intending to do before following through. Now, 2 years later, my mom said "You dropped the honors program? What if that keeps you from getting into vet school?" :boom: *sigh*

I totally understand, vetme! But, the most ironic part, my science & philosophy professors (my 2 double majors) are fine with me missing school cause it's for my future aka the rest of my life. I already have people set to take good notes for me & my teachers said I can see them if I have any problems at all. It's just English lit. Oh, and the dept. head never got back to me. Honestly, if I had to take another semester at my undergrad, I might very well transfer:laugh: I don't want to go into all of the drama so far, but it's aggravating to say the least (and it's only the first week 😉)

I'm trying to do what's best for me but thank you for the added encouragement!!!
I imagine that trying to interview while classes are in session would be hard....I just hate missing class because then I feel sooo behind.

Hang in there everything will turn out fine I'm sure. Do what you think is best for YOU🙂

Best of luck with your own English class, CT! Well, honestly, no (to those 4 absences). With vet school, it's not like med school like many of my friends pursuing professional school upon graduation. They have multiple schools in 1 state while I'm fortunate to even have one. Most people not familiar with vet school (or willing to listen) think it's a lower form of medical school... Anyways, if I get into Tufts, I'm not going to keep staying stressed about this moot point. If not, I'm heading out to Oregon asap and will be missing possibly another class. And, I know there's always a chance of illness no matter how hard you try. These English profs are treating me like a child...like I'm skipping to go play hooky.

Do you think you can make it through the semester without missing another two classes?

I'm in a quasi-similar boat with an english class. I'm trying to sign up late and find a professor who is willing to be understanding of the fact that I am missing an additional 2 classes for one interview, and could potentially end up missing another 1-2 for another interview right after (don't know yet).

I understand that it's problematic for the professor, and that certain things need to be done in class... but it's not like you can help it. You're not skipping, and you don't really have any choice in the matter. They give you an interview when they give you an interview.

Got an email this morning from AVC saying my DVM application is still missing something (unspecified?) and to please email them promptly to have it resolved since interviews start this week.

I already GOT my interview invitation. I emailed Sharon about it but have yet to hear back and I feel absolutely sick to my stomach thinking that my interview is in jeopardy. FML.

Kaydubs, good luck on your Tuft's interview! I drove around the campus when I was in MA over Christmas...it is so beautiful!

Yuck! What a horrible feeling. Hope it works out.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't even begin to imagine...

:xf::xf::xf::xf: that all is resolved quickly!!!

Biology Society pub crawl was on February 25th. I made plans to go.

The president of the society gave a member permission to create a FB event as long as they didn't include "Pub Crawl" in the post. She told him several times.

That person included the words "Pub Crawl" and several people watched him to it. Students Union found out. If we have the pub crawl on the 25th, the society will get terminated.

So they moved the event to the 26th.

I can't go. I have a sleepover I have to supervise.

PEOPLE ARE STUPID.

If 1000 people didn't get out of control on one of the engineering pub crawls two years ago, then we wouldn't have this issue.

Best of luck.

I highly doubt they'd take back your interview. If your interview was in jeopardy, they probably would have mentioned the lack of paperwork when they offered it to you and not have waited until after you've made travel plans.

Thanks Squibby and LMMS, I hope she's in the office tomorrow and explains what's going on. OHAI, worst nightmare. I can't decide if I want to vomit or cry.

I'm a big fan of cry-vomiting.

But seriously, I really hope it works out. I'm sure it will, and you'll have an amazing interview and come back and tell us all about your acceptance =D

Thanks EllieG. My boyfriend (ever the voice of reason) pointed out that it's probably an automated message from the Registrar's office since my materials were late. I hope its all resolved Monday so I can continue to float around in an obnoxiously happy state 😛

I LOL'ed at this. 🙂 I had a friend who would puke if she cried too much. It was just a thing.

Wow, hopefully she never got over-emotional in theaters watching a sad movie. That could be a really inconvenient issue to have. 😀

Out-of-control and engineers are contradictory, so, to use them together it is an oxymoron. 😉

You've not been to my school during St. Pat's. We even get a break for that holiday and students still go to class drunk before and after the break. (80% of the students at my school are engineering majors).

As someone who lives next to our engineering campus/among all of the engineers, I'm going to agree. Giving nerds lots of alcohol never ends well. 🙂

Good luck, that redhead!!! :luck::luck::luck:

Fun! Perhaps at my school there was a disproportionate number of meat-head football players.

Thank you!

On another rant-worthy note, I just looked up the requirements for ACLAM accreditation. Two years training post-degree or six years experience post-degree PLUS being the first author on a peer reviewed journal article? Why couldn't it just be, "Write an essay on which lab animal species is the cutest"? Oy.

Haha yeah, the two don't normally go hand in hand. Anywho, St. Pat's is a fun time! :luck:

Longest week ever, filled with moonbats and asshats (our new terminology for crazies and jerks), TONS of euthanasias (what, is it christmas again?) including one really awful one.

And I came home to find that we don't have water in the building. And it's snowing. Again.

As long as I can get in the d**n plane to go to Tufts tomorrow, I don't care.

Edit: And now I can't check in for my flight because the system can't find a valid eticket coupon. Seriously?

My dog killed a squirrel at the park this morning. 🙁

Well, it wouldn't be an oxymoron if I told you that we only have a couple hundred engineering students. Majority of the people on the pub crawl weren't engineering students.

For some reason, the engineering pubcrawl is the largest one each year.

1 000 people hitting the city in one night is INSANE. I can't even imagine where the heck they would all go. They divide you into groups and then you all meet at the largest bar from midnight on. I cannot imagine 200 people crammed into each small bar... and the large bar can maybe hold 300 people max at one time?

It must have been crraaaaazzzzy.

Actually... I think I was there... but we skipped going to some of the smaller bars... and I don't remember going to the large bar... frig... I don't remember that night at all. That's not good. I think it was raining.

My Pens are all broken. We got Malkin back for one game, now he's probably out for the rest of the season. Letestu our for knee surgery for over a month. Crosby is still indefinite.

I hate to say it, but this would be a RAVE for me  (headed to the Flyers game in a few hours here).

My rant... there are too many Pens fans on this forum 😉

I met Marc Andre Fleury 🙂

Oi, where? I do love Flower (even if he's hot and cold as a goalie). I was at the Stanley Cup celebration in 2009, and knew chances of talking to Crosby were zero, but I was hoping to get a handshake and an autograph from Talbot who came with him. I just couldn't get close enough to the front.

Flower? lol

I took a trip to the island one August, back when he was playing for the Eagles. I think I was 14 at the time... I was young and obsessed. We went to a practice to get his autograph. He signed my jersey. I also have a piece of paper somewhere that my friend got signed for me.

Three years ago, they retired his jersey. They had a huge ceremony during an Eagles game to celebrate and I was lucky enough to attend. He was signing autographs at the mall that day but I had a lab. My friend stood in line for three hours to get a signed poster. I was super jealous.

I also have Jean-Claude Sawyer's autograph and met James Sheppard at a draft :/ I don't know if those names mean anything to anyone, but you're one degree if separation closer if you do 😛

I've had quite a few clients ask if we are closed tomorrow because of the Superbowl. No, the world does not shut down because of football!!! I just hope that we actually have some appointments tomorrow afternoon and that everyone isn't glued to their TVs. I've never understood all the hype...😕

The only time I understand the hype is when the Patriots are playing... because this means I get invited to loud, obnoxious parties with free drinks and mass quantities of gloriously unhealthy foodstuffs. 😀

Or, if either of the Manning brothers happen to be playing, in which case, my best friend will coax me over with junk food and alcohol so I can assist her in rooting for whoever happens to be playing against them.

Otherwise, I'm pretty oblivious to football, Super Bowl included. I may end up watching at a friend's place... not sure yet.

I don't understand all of the hype about football.

I've been asking people for a few years to explain the rules to me and I still don't understand the rules. I've seen a half-dozen football movies and still don't get it.

Though initially promising... my weekend turned into complete crap. Now I am hungover and crabby and I think I was a big pukey mess last night.

Thank you!

and don't forget passing the pesky board exam...

🙁 Feel better!!! Peppermint tea helps with nausea I think!! LOVE LOVE!

Agree! But will I be watching the super bowl? Prolly....I know there's a bunch of movie trailers I want to see 😀

Hope you're feeling better, Whyevernot55!! I see you made it to Mass. I love that terminology: moonbats & asshats! I may have to commandeer it....

ONE Flyers fan is one Flyers fan too many if you ask me. 😛

Agreed. I do love the Red Wings (because they were my first hockey love), but Pens are my second favorite. I definately keep that on the down low around here, but when people find out they give me some pretty funny looks. If I said I was a Flyers or Eagles fan, someone would probably punch me.

My rant for the day:
Pens lost in a shutout to the Capitals of all teams, and lost Malkin.
Wings lost their last 2 games in shutouts and are having problems at goalie, but at least they're starting to get people back.

Not sure about vet clinics, but tons of restaurants and stores near Pittsburgh were closing early today. My old high school also has a two hour delay (and not for weather-which should be a rave).

My best friend is still OBSESSING over her professor.

It's driving me crazy.

What do I do???
