How pricey are the express ones? My only gap ones I got on sale (coincidentally they are BOOTCUT! the horror...)

I got a couple pairs on sale last semester. Best deal was 2/$50, saw a few 2/$75 deals. There's always free shipping and discount codes floating around the net if you have to order online.

I am 5'3", so all pants are too long for me...

I feel that. I'm 5'0". I have exactly one store I can buy jeans from. They sell them reasonably cheap and list them by waist circumference and inseam length. They do a 30" inseam, and I can just about get away with that. A 29" would be better, but that doesn't exist. 🙄

I HATE HATE HATE when people wear skinny jeans with ballet flats or flip flops. Especially when the jeans dont fit right and are bunched around their ankles. Even worse-- saw someone wearing skinny jeans with dansko-like clogs. No no no no no no
I wear skinny jeans in the fall/winter, with boots, and that's it lol. I hate the way the ankles look otherwise.

And I really hope that whoever invented jeggings suffers greatly for this travesty.

Thanks for the heads up. I love wearing my skinny jeans with flip flops/flats.

Also, I recommend Old Navy's jeans. Old Navy is owned by gap and I have found the fit is the same (at least for me). They usually have good sale, too.

I don't know what to do about the car situation myself. I have a 2WD stick shift F150. Everything thinks it must be so awesome in the snow because it's a TRUCK but..half of the damn thing is air. I got stuck on some ice in my driveway last winter and to be honest, while I love my truck, I don't feel safe driving in snow/ice with it. What I'm going to do about this is TBD, contingent on an acceptance, anyway!

Do you have snow tires? If not and you have to go to a snowy place, just invest in a decent pair of hardcore winter tires, probably less than $150. Get them swapped on and off your rims each fall/spring, drive carefully, and you should be fine in all but the worst. Little extra weight in back will help, and carry an emergency shovel and bag of sand or kitty litter to help you get out of anything you do get stuck in.

Not everyone can afford a Subaru AND OOS vet tuition. If I got in to Minnesota, I certainly wasn't going to get a new car! Nope, I would be bringing my (paid off!) Civic. Bahaha. Like, probably one of the worst things to drive just because it has about a foot of clearance.

Eh, you could afford mine... it's a 2000 and it has roughly 90,000 miles on it (the majority of which I've put on since acquiring it in 2007). If the thing survives vet school, I will be pleasantly surprised. Very pleasantly.

I wonder if you get your jeans from the same place that I do.

My favorite store went from stocking no skinny jeans to stocking 4 different types. Then they stopped making my favorite type (boyfriend fit) and increased their length (a 32" now comes halfway down my size 9 feet... wtf?!)

Their next flattering fit is extreme low rise. If I bend down a quarter of the way, it exposes my buttcrack... so I couldn't bring myself to buy them.

I have trouble finding jeans elsewhere. Either they are too expensive, or they only come in one size (34").

Here is a rant: I am 5'4", which apparently is the average height for women. The standard length in jeans is a 34", which is waaayyy too long on me. So how come the standard isn't 32" and how come they just won't make a variety of sizes? I hate having to get them hemmed... it usually looks weird on flare-type pants or loose-fitting, which is the most flattering style on me.

I don't know if anyone has Urban Planet stores there... but I HATE THEM. It's the only store where I have to buy a large or xtra-large when I normally wear a small or medium... because I either can't get my chest into it or it's waaaay too tight on the arms. I also have to go up an entire size in their jeans. What is up with that?

I've noticed shrinking sizes at a number of stores here in the states. My guess is, they don't want people like me *pokes stomach a la Pillsbury dough boy* frumping around in their clothes, and discontinuing everything but the smalls and mediums would be too obvious... so they get away with it by simply calling their medium an extra large.

I have great luck with Express jeans. I get their short sizes and they are perfect for my 5'4" height. I also find that most of the time the size I am is the size that I try on (they don't seem a couple sizes smaller than marked). Of course, they also have a ton of diff styles so you have to make sure you try on the right one. But i basically never go anywhere else now except for Express for jeans.

I like the lola style best, and I get the regulars and they're a bit long, but that's how I like them. I always end up with ratty hems on my jeans, but I like the option to wear heels and not look dumb.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my express jeans - they are all I buy now. 😀

As for a rant. I had the worst day I've had in a while. A lot of things combined into one...and now I just spent 30 minutes ranting to my husband which means he'll be getting grouchy now.

uggghhhhh.............

Hey, I just taught my husband glycolysis and the TCA cycle, with some assorted bitching because I couldn't remember the structure of malate. So, yours can't be any grumpier than mine!

My jeep has 187,000 miles.
🙁

Wow! Did you do that yourself?

It's not the mileage that frightens me so much, per se... I'm more nervous about the fact that my brother's 2001 keeps attempting to die. That, and, at this rate, by the end of vet school, there's a very good chance that I'll be pushing 200k.

If I end up in MN, I have relatives 10 hours away, and may drive home over long breaks so I can bring T with me. If I end up in CA, it's CA... and I shall be forced to explore. Plus, I 😍 driving aimlessly when I'm stressed, and, well... it's vet school.

Hi (I'm new)

To offer you hope and a light:

I made the best and most useful $500 purchase when I decided to get my '94 Jeep Cherokee. It is black, 4WD, bare-bones, and a stick shift.

And it is a BEAST. It currently has 322,000 original miles on it (thus the low price tag) and I love it. I can haul anything and anyone-- if not inside, then on the top. And I have become a beast of a driver, as well. It only goes 85 mph, but given the points currently on my license from driving my interceptor, this is a GOOD THING.

So, if you come across a $500 Jeep Cherokee, by all means, have your dad/brother/boyfriend/male friend/mechanically inclined friend check it out, then purchase. You'll never look back.

Hey thanks! I've only put about 20,000 of those miles on it...

but now it's a competition...

I'm going to run it until it absolutely won't go anymore (hoping that's not tomorrow!), then fix it and keep trucking. And see how far it can go. It's kind of fun, kind of embaressing.

I taught my friends glycolysis and TCA also... :meanie:

Where in California did you apply? Western or UCD?

Western... just interviewed today. Can't remember why I decided not to apply at Davis, but there was some reason I was pretty certain they wouldn't be interested in me. Considered it, though.

Awesome. Your reasoning would prolly have to do with the fact that Davis takes barely anyone from out of state. Heck the majority of people I know IS didn't get an interview there. Hope you get in.

This made me laugh out loud, since I'm taking a break from studying for tomorrow's biochemistry 2 midterm. I long for the TCA cycle! Biosynthesis of fatty acids/amino acids/nucleotides absolutely sucks! At this point, I'm hoping everybody else fails (does that make me a bad person?) so the curve will be nice and big. :xf: They won't though, because I go to school with a bunch of freakishly overachieving pre-meds. Sigh.

Hey, I'm in biochem II as well! We're learning glycolysis, TCA, and oxphos in insane detail, plus a lot of side stuff about regulation, alternate pathways, how the enzymes work, and assorted random stuff. After tomorrow's exam, we'll go into all the other stuff. 🙂

Got a freaking ticket today. Thankfully the cop was nice and let me off with a lesser offense with no points because I was speeding down the highway back to my house like a crazy person because I have a developmental exam tomorrow and I had class all night 🙁 Not having a good week.

But, hey, it can only get better from here...right?

I went to leave my parent's house last night to come back to school, turned out of our carport, and didn't see the small metal trailer my dad had behind his truck. My poor truck now has a huge (and deep!) scratch from the back passenger wheel well to the back door, a dent in the side, and somehow poked a hole in the metal near the door. Everything still works fine and the door still opens and closes, but it looks like it's going to be an expensive repair...

Why do things like this seem to happen to me at the worst times? I was already having a pretty crappy day and that just made it a lot worse 🙁

LOLS:laugh: Aw, breenie!! I admit to never wearing danskos ever (and I'm not sure what the hype is all about - inform me, oh great ones 😛 jk)

I will admit, I have considered jeggings....never purchased them because I have 2 pairs of jeans that no longer fit due to my loss of the unnecessary weight I had.... I am 5'4" but am incredibly unproportional (not horrendously but, still...my torso is much longer than my legs). I grew that last inch this past year (not sure if this is normal for people...I am 22....will I be 5'6" by 50??)

But, my aero jeans (don't laugh!) are now too large in both length & width. I just roll them and stud belt them (and that still doesn't help 🤣). I am very much a sweats comfort person (VS is such a place for sweatpants, I'm not gonna lie :laughs🙂

Sorry to jump on this so late....yesterday was, in a single word, crazy. :biglove:
*slinks away in shame*

I am 5'3", so all pants are too long for me... I wear skinny jeans on the daily and they are always bunched unless I cuff them. I feel like I look like a little hooligan if I cuff them, though.

I would never wear danskos with them. Or actually... danskos ever. I know. I am totally about to get flamed here.:scared:

But that college humor video was hilarious. I need to get a W-neck to go with my jeggings...

I'm five feet tall and even proportionally my legs are short, and DKNY petite jeans are pretty perfect length for me.

Where was your PBA/FOP card??? I used to have one when I lived in Jersey though I never had the balls to use it when I got pulled over. In Florida they think I'm crazy when I start talking about Jersey's "get out of a jail free" cards.

They're insanely difficult to get nowadays. You basically need to be related to a cop or be best friends with one. My dad has a client (he's a CPA) who is a cop and he got 2--one for him and he gave the other to my sister because she's been pulled over before. Seriously? She gets rewarded because she's an aggressive driver?? Makes no sense to me...

I haaaaate getting sick, especially when I have a tooooon of studying to get done in the next few days!

I leave for one day and the prehealth organization I'm president for elects a person to VP who is not even eligible. WTF?

I am experiencing this post-application "blah" feeling leading to a bunch of laying around and feeling weird and bored because I have nothing to do. Illinois was my last interview, and now I like don't know what to do with myself. I think I need a second job.

I live in Madison, WI, I applied to the vet school in Madison, WI, I know fellow Madisonians have received their letters today...so I'm walking home all nervous and quick-like, thinking "this is it!...here it comes...one way or the other..." aaaaand THERE IS NOTHING IN MY MAILBOX BUT A FREAKING SHOPPER STOPPER.

I'm going insane. What does this mean? Did they forget me? Good sign? Bad sign? Worse: waitlisted? So many people heard and not me...it has to travel a freaking distance of 1.5 miles for goodness sakes! So frustrated.

I have a Cherokee (2001) and I LOOOOOVE it.
It has 187,000+ miles, but I bought it used a few years ago and I think maybe 35k of them are mine. I live in the middle of nowhere and its at least 15 minutes to get anywhere of use. I also usually work ~60miles from my home.

I am waiting for Madison as well and it is driving me CRAZY! I honestly don't expect good news but I purposely plan trips for me to come back home from campus so I can check my mail.

Rant:
Curious about my chances, I started to look at accepted stats. Bad idea. Now I feel dumb. Very dumb. And hopeless. 🙁

I am no longer working on a terminal research project due to time constrains but I was able to send one of my Pre-Vet kids over to replace me. I asked her how it was going and she replied "Great! We helped euthanize **** today!" I became sad and told her that **** was one of my favorites. She then proceeded to tell me exactly what it was like as **** died.

I have to do an essay for my Shakespeare class. It is impossible for me to focus on gen eds when I have so much more important things happening in my life.

Between SDN and Reddit I get nothing done...

I was in the same situation last year. A girl who lived literally 4 houses down from me on the same street got her letter 2 days before me! It will get there! Just hang in there!

I tried to bake a cake.

'Nuff said.

Thanks! This actually makes me feel much better. Still worried, naturally, but much better!

Whole package of cake mix, one cake pan? Sorry about your loss, haha.

Well it said to use two pans but 1.) I only had one pan 2.) I didn't have all night to bake multiple cakes and 3.) It all fit 😕

Anyway. I laugh in the face of adversity. See exhibit A.

Also, cake mix was on sale for 77 cents. The risk was minmal, and the rewards ended up being quite great. Though aesthetically unappealing, the cake is quite delicious.

Confession: I've never grasped the Krebs cycle well enough to effectively teach it to someone else. I mean, I get the gist of it, but memorizing all the different steps and enzymes? 😴
