Dude, that sucks. The first thing I did with my Mizzou email was import it into my Gmail. I haven't touched Windows Live since I received the first email. Even that was bad enough. I feel your pain.

Yeah, Windows Live is painful... I about migrated my old email to that until I heard that my school was offering Gmail instead. Loooove gmail.

ETA: Apparently my account just never was made, so something glitched. Barely enrolled and I've already doubled the number of calls I've ever made to IT.

I love my SO, I love that he's strong-willed, but damnit I wish he would listen to me sometimes!

(For reference, my dog and my roommate's female dog have been fighting, so we are careful not to let them get into contact - this means my dog runs around with the other 2 dogs with access to the kitchen and the backyard because she likes to play with them while her dog hangs out in my roommate's room in the basement because she jumps over the gate if she's with the other dogs anyway. My roommate's dog is able to go potty out front thanks to a 20 ft training leash.)

Anyway, my SO and I are coming back from a walk/run just now and he grabs the dog. He knows they're separated, so he goes to take her to the gate in the fence in the front of the house. Instead of walking around the cars, giving space between the dogs, he walks in front of the cars, putting the dogs on the same turf. I notice him going that way so I start telling him things like "[his name]", "no", "don't", "stop", "Gypsy (other dog's name)", "that gate is broken", "come around back", "[his name]!", "STOP", "NO", "STOP!!!!", etc.

All the while he ignores me.

I see both dogs' hackles raise... and then they get into it. Fortunately, they did not latch on to one another so no one got hurt. Unfortunately, that gate really was broken, so I had to walk her all the way back around the cars and around the opposite side of the house. 😡

Hmpf. 🙁 I wanna volunteer for the Humane Society again this summer before I start college. Today is a really busy day but I thought I'd help them out for 2 hours anyways. All was good, it was a lot of fun.. until I had to leave. One of the ladies got really mad. "Usually we don't do it like that! If you wanna help, then you have to stay the whole time! You're not use at all to us if you don't stay the whole entire time!'

Seriously? You'd rather not have ANY help at all, then have me come for at least a little bit so you don't have as much work during those 2 hours? How stupid is that?? They only had teenagers helping today and they had a ton of dogs, and then they're that rude and don't wanna accept my help? Wow... 😡

I know how you feel, I used to volunteer at North Shore Animal League and most of the people were always so rude to me for no reason. Besides helping the animals I was helping them. Ugh I dont get people.

Yeah... I left a volunteer gig after getting into vet school because I wanted to free up that evening to spend with my family (knowing things will get busy this fall).

I had been there 14 months. They asked for a 9-mo commitment. When I told them I was leaving, I was told, verbatim: "I'm so sick of you people coming in here and using us to get into vet school and then leaving."

I let it go - no point in an argument - but ... wow. You asked for 9 months. I gave you 14. Of course I "used" you to get into vet school - I specifically told you I was trying to build experience. But you "used" me for 14 months of labor; 5 more months than you asked for. And I'm the bad guy?

I thought that was a disappointing way to treat a departing volunteer. I had hoped to maintain a relationship there and perhaps help out from time to time when they were short volunteers, but ... that left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

People are going to take it that way, especially if you got a recommendation letter or whatever out of an experience like that.

Don't take this the wrong way but IMO it's bad form to leave as soon as you get in - it definitely smacks of "using" people, even if it's totally not your intention (which I can see that it wasn't!). If you've been at a place for 14 months, they maybe expect you to actually feel a little bit of pride and/or investment in what you and they are doing, and thus feel like you should want to stay until you actually start school or whatever. Whether that's right or wrong isn't really important, but they do have a right to feel that way.

That stinks, you think that "animal people" would be more appreciative and be happy for you!
My Rant:
Friday I worked all day then studied organic chem till midnight.. Today I worked all day now studying organic chem.. Tommorow I will be studying all day.. Fun summer!

People can never appreciate a gift horse in the mouth when it's right in front of them..........the place I volunteer at the director had no problem writing a recommendation letter for me

they know i'm probably leaving from time to time for school.........sorry if your miserable or whatever.........don't take it out on me

I totally agree with you. Just to clarify, I didn't leave immediately after getting accepted. It was ... two months, I guess. (And no, I didn't ask for a recommendation from them.)

I definitely agree with your sentiment, but I still think the bottom line is: If you ask someone for 9 months and they give you 14, you just graciously thank them on their way out the door.

That's how *I'd* handle it anyway, no matter how disappointed I was.

I agree. I think you're totally in your right to stop volunteering if you need a night off to spend with your FAMILY for gosh sakes (plus you have a newborn, correct?), whether or not a recommendation was obtained. from all of your posts on this forum, you've always seemed like a level-headed, polite person who wouldn't intentionally screw anyone. too bad they couldn't see that!

I agree. I think you're totally in your right to stop volunteering if you need a night off to spend with your FAMILY for gosh sakes (plus you have a newborn, correct?),

That's basically the sit. Two kids plus the newborn. I'm trying to position myself at work to get laid off at just the right time (i.e. a week or two before school starts), but it's not some summer job, it's a 14-year career.... so wrapping up the various projects I'm involved with or leading and transitioning my knowledge base and responsibilities is pretty time consuming. I decided to keep shadowing, but cut the rest of my volunteer activities so I could balance things, be with my family, and arrive at fall in the right frame of mind.

The constant advice the current students give is "rest up, don't study, and be ready to go," so I'm trying to take that to heart.

I don't really hold it against the place I was volunteering too much - I'm know it's a pain in the butt to train people. But it was a disappointing way to part ways, even if it was only one person's sentiment. I probably shouldn't have brought it up on the boards... mostly, I just felt like "Yeah - I've been there" when I read PetPony's post.

Trying to get everything done and ready to move is making me push people away. I've always had very little patience or tolerance for people who can't be on time or follow through with what they say...but make exeptions for people that I really like, like my good friends. Lately, though, I just don't feel like I should have to deal with it. I have a lot going on right now and I can still manage to be on time and do what I say I'm going to do. Maybe it's wrong to expect the same from the people around me but that's just too bad. If you can't be somewhere when you say you will, I'm going to leave. If you don't follow through, I'm going to call you out. Bleh

I signed up to take the GRE in July but the form wasn't recognizing the space between my last names. In order to register for the test I put a hyphen between my names but on my ID there is no hyphen so they may not even let me take it. fantastic

I think my bf of 2 years and I are coming to an end in our relationship. While that sucks on its own, plus feeling like I cant really talk to any of my friends about it, my roommate informs me that her bf proposed last night. Fml.

🙁 Ouch. That sorta feels like Life rubbing salt in a wound. Sorry to hear it, Tea.

Hm. TT2? TeaT? (If you're going LA, I propose TeaT..... 😉)

Thanks, LIS. I just feel really ...alone right now. but yeah, it def felt like salt in the wound. I kind of wanted to vomit after she told me, that's how visceral a reaction it created. I mean, I could understand her telling me, shes excited and all (waited 8 years for that ring!), but she knows we're on the rocks. I'm happy for her, but it's the least to say it's NOT a good time.

Why can't I just be married and settled down already. The thought of starting all over again makes me want to go hide under a rock.

and I think we determined its TT2, 🙂

I agree with TT2 and think that you have every right to be ticked off. Saying what they did to you after you gave them over a year of free work is just plain rude, especially when you just want to spend time with your family.

Ever since googling things like trichomonas, chlamydia, herpes, etc... for my virology, bacteriology, parasitology classes all the ads that pop up on my browser have to do with STD testing... even after I cleared all my history, cookies, etc...

It's kind of embarrassing when I let people go on my laptop and they give me an awkward look. I almost want to say "so what if I'm very concerned about having safe sex!? maybe you should get tested too. if anything, it's a great way to uncover infidelity issues in your relationship"

Saw a dog yesterday at work that came in for yearly vaccines. Poor dog had bilateral eye infection or ulcer (they wouldn't let us run any tests) and bilateral ear infection. The ears were so bad they were almost swollen shut. Ran it's annual heartworm test and it came up positive. After almost an hour of explaining these conditions to the clients, Dr. came back to the back and let me know that the Os were not going to treat ANYTHING! I could not believe it. They said they might come back on Friday and pick up the ear ointment, but that was it! And then they talked about how they were going to get another dog this weekend!

Today was my last day at the clinic I've been helping out at for nearly 2 years. It was bittersweet...

I was bitten by the last patient I restrained.
Three of my friends who work there said they'd be in, and not one of them showed.
I have a cold, so talking to clients just plain hurt, not to mention I was occasionally lightheaded with a headache on top.

Beyond my day at the clinic, I talked to my SO about not running tomorrow because this cold is taking more out of me than any cold I've ever had. His response? "You don't push yourself hard enough. It's not like you've done that much lately anyway." (Yeah, sure, not that much... I freaking found the duplex we're living in, got in contact with all the necessary people, organized the utilities, researched cable/internet options, contacted multiple people for our wedding location, packed my room, etc.) On top of that, he didn't even ask me about my day, doesn't want to hang out because he's researching for work in the morning (understandable, but the only time I've seen him in the past few days was to work out), and won't let me get another cat.

...okay, I understand that last one, but still.

That is SO frustrating!!!! Sometimes I just.........hate people. Grrr!!
Hope they do the right thing soon, for the dog's sake. 🙁

I. HATE. DRAMA. the end.

So freaking over immaturity. I've never seen so many grown men acting like children in one city before.

RE: Looking for a horse boarding facility in New England.

Dear sweet freaking christ on crackers, haven't these people heard of turnout? :bang: And what the heck is up with training requirements?

Welcome to New England
Most bigger barns don't have much in the way of turnout-- they sacrifice the paddocks for more stalls, indoor, etc. You might have better luck with a small backyard type barn, if you can live without the indoor. (If the barn owner knows what they're doing when dragging/treating the ring, you should be able to ride all year long!) I never had an indoor in NH, and I think there were only 2-3 days a winter when we couldn't ride.

And of course, the farther you are willing to drive, the more land you might find with more amenities (at a more reasonable cost, depending on what direction you head in!)

So, I adopted a new kitty yesterday. She is awesome and amazing (rave), but she has yet to use her litterbox. I am a little suspicious. She was a stray andI guess used it fine at the shelter, but I would very much like it if she used it before I had to go to work. She's been here ~18 hours and I'm worried someone has taken a big pee in my room somewhere (she's separated from my other cat).

Urrrghhh. I have been sniffing around but haven't found anything. Fingers crossed new kitty decides she likes her litterbox and uses it...

Did you place her in it so she knows exactly where it is? I've always placed new rescues IN the box (just once) so they know where it is. They usually run right out of it, but eventually migrate back to it. Might want to ask what kind of litter the shelter was using too.

Can you put kitty & litter box in bathroom while you're gone?

Yeah, I had placed her in it. She threw a party in it at like 2am "splashing" in the litter, so I was a little confused. A few minutes before work she decided to take a squat and pee!!! Crisis averted. 🙂 It was a gigantic lion or panther sized pee, I might add. Now just hoping she poops soon so I can bring a stool sample into the clinic when I take my other kitty in tomorrow.

She had me worried for awhile there! Phew!

lol, you know you're in the vet field when proper poop/pee makes you that happy!

I had a job interview today. They asked for 2 references, I gave them three just in case. Around 5 pm, they call to tell me they can't get a hold of any of them. WTF? What are the odds they're all gone at once?? ARGH!

This is my 4th time being sick this year. I'm so over it. I can't catch a break. I'm guessing its related to my newly acquired allergy to cats. I'm just....ugh!

I have an absolutely adorable and sweet 4 month old Chi mix sleeping in my lap right now. My rant is that she's technically my foster and my mom keeps trying to get her friends to adopt her. Noooooooooooooooo I wanna keep her!!!!

I'm fostering/socializing a gorgeous 10 week old feral kitten right now, and we bonded the moment I lifted her out of the crate. I've never had an animal take to me the way that she has.

Alas, full house.

My mom won't stop asking if I am going to keep her, or pushing the point about how "perfect" she is for me... and it's driving me nuts. Because I can't do it. And she knows it. Argh. 😡

:xf: that you end up getting to keep the Chi mix! 🙂

New kitty has questionable litter box skills. She is using it now, but decided to remove half the contents of the litter box and put it on the floor. Real classy, kitty, real classy.

My cat used to do this. Have no idea why she loves to throw litter everywhere. Then I fixed it. Covered litter box FTW!!

Or try taking one of those plastic sterilite bins with clasp on tops, and cut a hole on the top so the cat has to jump in. it's hard to fling litter out of those. Or one of those giant sized buddha domes with the spiral staircase (bf swears by it, but I think it's waaaay too big).

I use one of those sterilite bins with no lid on it. I figured there was no point in having to deal with cutting a hole in the lid when the lid doesn't really matter anyway since the only reason I had a covered one before was so the cats couldn't kick litter out.

And honestly the Buddha domes are too small for my cats -their litterbox habits improved SO MUCH when I started using two MASSIVE sterilite containers instead of the Buddha dome + two XL covered boxes. I think they really like having that much space (but then again I have three cats).

Definitely go with the tub. And I agree with Nyanko about the Booda Domes. I use them as nesting boxes for my chickens (it actually works really well for that).

Oh yeah, def. When I meant too big, I meant too clunky/waste of space. The actual litter pan part of it's not very big at all. Really not practical if you have multiple cats (1 big tom is like max). But the space it takes on the floor is massive!

In our house with 3 cats, we have the two massive sterilite containers (with the lid, but more so the dogs don't eat cat ****) + one uncovered small box. My kitty needs the uncovered small box because she's a princess and needs an uncovered one to pee in and the sterilites to poop in (apparently she needs more privacy for poop, but she thinks the communal sterilite one is too narsty for her pee). I used to have her little one in my bathroom, and she would pee while staring deeply into my eyes everytime I squatted on the human toilet to pee. I was strangely moved by that show of affection, but had to move it when the dogs raided it multiple times.

You know you're a vet student when you have to emphasize that fact that you use a "human toilet"..... Darn, Minner, here I was hoping you used the litter box too

Darn, Minner, here I was hoping you used the litter box too

Well I would, but I'd use up waaaay too much litter. Too heavy to take out on trash day, and litter ain't cheap ya know? Too rich for my blood. Municipal water is much cheaper AND, I'd still need to flush the toilet paper anyway.

Omfg, you guys have me dying over here.

I have a kitty who used to have bad litter flinging skillz, and he now happily uses a covered litterbox. New kitty was a stray and then at the shelter, so I was (rightfully) a little dubious about her litter habits. I initially gave her a small open box similar to the one at the shelter, but now I've got a big covered one out for her sans lid because of her naughty litter flinging. Hoping she finds it satisfactory so I can put the lid on. Old kitty took a little getting used to the covered ones. :/

Cats are so prissy. Oof!

All three people who offered to help me move this weekend have flaked in the last 24 hours. so pissed off. Why are people so freaking stupid?

Stood in the 97 degree sun to watch the horse get shod after a long day at work where absolutely nothing went right. Came home and there are little piles of dog vomit everywhere. They are the same color as the carpet. I found them because I was walking around in barefeet. Oh. and did I mention that I cleaned the carpets like 2 weeks ago since we were moving?

FML. I would go to bed and say F it all but i still have a house to pack...and a friendship to reforge with my doberman who I screamed bloody murder at when she accidentally stepped on my foot after I dropped my dinner on the vomit ridden floor.

Can't wait to move my entire house with my husband who is sleep deprived because he works nights. Sometimes it's all just a LITTLE too much. Now accepting applications for new friendships and carpet cleaners. 🙄

At the clinic today we had a Rottweiler in for about the third time in the last seven days. Sweetest. Dog. Ever. He wasn't eating or going to the bathroom and the owners kept bringing him in but then taking him home to wait and see. X-rays from a couple of days ago showed what looked to be possibly something stuck in his colon so the owners opted for an exploratory abdominal surgery today. The vet got in there and found nothing in his intestinal tract, and when he went searching for something else that could be wrong, he found it-his liver was totally cancerous =( We called the owners and they asked that we euthanize him instead of waking him up from the surgery. I know it was the right thing to do but he was a really sweet dog and I wished we could have helped him.
