RANT HERE thread

So, so tired today because somebody on SDN inveigled me into reading the Harry Potter books......

(Ok, it wasn't really inveigling, but how often do you get to use a word like that anyway?)

Two week's notice submitted on the 26th... the boss FINALLY came and talked to me today about my leaving. Did I get a "Congratulations" or any sort of acknowledgement that what I have achieved-- being accepted to vet school-- is... well... a HUGE feat. Nope. Simply got a "well... you do what you have to do."

So glad I'm outta here Friday.

Worst of all, the girl who got it had applied to vet school last year, got in, and turned it down....I worked SO HARD on my applications and preparing for interviews last year, and only got on wait lists...if I were so lucky as to be given a spot to a school, I would NEVER give that up - no matter what country the school was in. I just can't believe someone who obviously does not want this as bad as I do got it.

I can understand her side as well, though, if she was only accepted at a foreign/non-accredited school (I got that impression from your post, so I apologize if that is incorrect). I honestly don't know if I would advise someone to go to vet school if that was the case--they're so expensive, and there are often many hurdles to jump over to be able to practice in the states after you graduate. Maybe she just realized it wasn't financially/logistically feasible for her. There's a fine line to walk: follow your dreams without making your life a financial nightmare. Of course, I'm only saying this as someone on the other side of vet school, knowing the student debt/salary/job opportunity mismatch--4 years ago I very well may have felt differently!!

It's worth it 😀

HOORAY!!! So, so proud. :claps:

I can't imagine who you are talking about.😛

I do recall staying up all night to finish #4. Was a very loooong day of work after that.
The books get better, more sophisticated, and longer by the way.

Packing sucks, saying goodbye sucks, and being a huge wimp scared of the unknown sucks!

It's not that bad, but my dad is being a serious taskmaster about this moving stuff. He's the only one helping me, so I understand his desire for a highly organized Breenie and Papa Breenie moving operation. I think he is channeling some of his sadness about me leaving into his precision German style moving attitude, though, which is getting a little annoying.

Also, one person can only tell me "STOP STRESSING OUT!!!!" so many times before I start to wonder if they're the one stressing out. 😛

I'm grouchy. 😡

I miss my horse so much it makes my chest constantly hurt and it's actually kind of getting annoying. I want my car to work. I want a freaking Diet Dr. Pepper and I want someone else to clean my kitchen!

grumble grumble grumble

oh - and I ran over my phone today. Straight up drove out the driveway and around 55mph, it flew off my car. I proceeded to immediately pull off to the side of the road. Couldn't find the phone...found the case, the earbuds, etc. Then went back to my car....I had DRIVEN over my phone when I pulled over. Thank god for Apple's customer service cuz they gave me a new one!!!! (so I guess that's a rave)

Still grouchy.

EDIT: for clarification sake - the car I drove over the phone is my hubby's car....I realize it doesn't make sense that I'm talking about a car not working and then complaining about driving the car... meh.

Sorry to hear. But, I have to comment on Apple's customer service. It's freaking awesome! I dropped my coworker's iPhone and the back faceplate shattered. I told him I would pay to get it fixed. He told me that verizon would send him a new phone for $175.😱 I called up Apple, and they said the could fix it and it would be around $100. Went yesterday to the Genius Bar, and they replaced it for free! So awesome! Kudos to Apple!

My dog is a running fanatic. So much so that she feels the need to sleep a little bit at night, then walk around the bed, hitting our arms with her nose, whining until we wake up and look at her. She repeats the above at least every hour from about 2 am-ish to the time we actually get up to the alarm. I'm glad she's so enthusiastic to go out and run, but it's seriously not conducive to vet/med students who want to sleep a solid 7 hours at night. If only she could tell time, or at least look outside and realize that it's not daylight yet so it's not time to go.

Also, one person can only tell me "STOP STRESSING OUT!!!!" so many times before I start to wonder if they're the one stressing out. 😛

I'm in the same boat. It's amusing how, when I fill my SO in on what is going on with moving, school, work, the dogs, etc.... he thinks I'm "stressing out".... which, I'm not. Yet when I don't say anything about what's going on, I'm "keeping things from him." There is no happy medium.

Early fall of 2013.

Veterinary anatomic pathology boards have a 30-40% first-time pass rate. It will definitely be interesting. It sure ain't the 95% NAVLE pass rate anymore 😱

Our program has a >90% pass rate, which is amazing and makes me feel I will be well prepared....but, you know, you *really* don't want to be THAT person, know what I mean

To the unfeeling, uncaring jerk at my office that just told me not to be upset because it was "just a cat," go to h*ll. 😡

My cat of 5 years disappeared on July 25 and I am heartbroken. To me, Kirby, was not "just a cat." He was a part of my family that is deeply missed. He was a friend that greeted me everyday. He was a constant presence in my life which is more than I can say for a lot of the people I've known. 🙁

So, to me he was a lot more than "just a cat" and I am entitled to my feelings. I am allowed to miss my cat and mourn for my cat. I don't deserve to be judged by some creep who doesn't understand that some people actually want animals in their life.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I was raised that if you can't say something nice, then you keep your damn mouth shut. I miss my cat and if you don't want to know why I'm crying, then don't ask...

I'm good with sharp objects. I can help you out.

(but in all seriousness, I'm sorry. Saying stuff like that is such an amazing degree of asshattery, I can't even comprehend it. Like you said, I don't care what they feel about animals per se, but I expect them to realize and respect how *I* feel, you know?

Minimizing someone else's grief (even *if* you're doing it to try and help) is just plain wrong.

WTF? (And no, WTF, I don't mean you ). In what world is that even vaguely okay? I shake my head at people, I really do, because I can't fathom what voice in their head would say, "Yeah, tell her it's 'just a cat'. That'll make her feel better!" 😡 Some small petty part of me is tempted to key his car or break his window or something or something like that, and tell him, "It's just a car. Don't be upset."

Oooh, I know this one! E! There was recently a discussion on VIN of a research paper about this. Though if I remember correctly, it wasn't terribly sensitive or specific. I'm surprised a question like this is on an anatomic pathology test, though. Seems more like Clin Path to me...or does your test include Clin Path, too?

Thanks! I appreciate it. Love the "asshattery" because it totally applies. I should have included in my original post that this dude is an attorney, and therefore, has no soul. In fact, I believe they specifically remove it prior to graduating from law school.

I like this! It's just a Lexus (with 4 flat tires and the contents of my cat's litterbox in the front seat).... take that you jerk.

People who don't like animals are evil!

I got my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday. No pain yesterday, just a little soreness. So here I am thinking I am a champ because of how little pain I'm in. However, today SUCKS. I can barely open my mouth to eat. And my hubby went back to work today so I don't have anyone to take care of me. I know I'm just being whiny and that I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself but it makes me feel better to whine.

Wisdom teeth extractions suck! I was ok the first day too, then I looked like a chipmunk for a week.

Hope you feel better.

Yeah, we do get some CP on our exam - we have to have a good working knowledge of chemistries/hematology and cytology (not nearly as in depth as the actual CP residents, but a good bit - they also have to know some histo on their exam and we have some cyto on ours, for example) as well as lab animal medicine.

The exam is divided into 4 parts: Histology, Gross, General Pathology, and Veterinary Pathology. Gen Path is all the crazy Robbins stuff - cytokines, immunology, genetics, etc. In the VP section, there are a couple subdivisions including clin path, lab animal, etc. A lot of those two sections also depends on journals - we are expected to know abstracts/main concepts from all articles over the course of at least 3 or 4 years from about 4 or more journals (scary!). Histo and Gross are more tailored to what we do on a daily basis.

Thx, WTF, that was enough to make me want to withdraw my acceptance even though I realize that's specialty board cert.

So do you have to get the answers right, or just be able to pronounce most of the them?

Tell me about it 😱 We did the Histo portion of the mock exam yesterday, though, and I felt pretty good about it. Visceral leishmaniasis, yeah! 😀 It's rough because you have to ration your time to ~12 minutes per slide (it is all timed, we went for about an hour and a half total, 7 slides) so you are always looking through the scope and writing furiously! It sounds like enough time, but to write everything you see and make a diagnosis and morphs quickly is crazy when you are handed a bunch of slides blind!

ouch! 🙁 did that last summer, except i was "lucky" and was pretty much pain free. the very unlucky part about that was that because i felt fine, i was HUNGRY. and forced to eat a liquid diet by the dentist. you cannot consume enough jello, pudding, and milkshakes to keep you even close to full for over a week. can't be done. i have never been so hungry in my life! it was crazy. my best friend became the shredded beef pot roast things you can buy pre-made at the grocery store by hormel and such. melts in your mouth and is loaded with protein! feel better soon!

ok, so i've decided to start a thread to simply vent about anything and everything. I have steam coming out of my ears right now :scared: and need to vent...so I will start.

Ok, so I gave my company over a YEAR's notice i was leaving (deferred vet school) and now it's biting me in my rear. Let me see if i understand this...my boss hires his two sons 3 years ago, makes them part owners and pays them ridiculous salaries in a business they are clueless about. I started the company from ground zero with him (working 60-70 hrs a week for 2 years) and 6 years later, after helping making it a nationally recongnized company, am leaving.

NOW, the sons want to complain about my payroll these last two months because i am not hair-pulling-out-crazy-busy (i've trained my staff and actually can kick back for the first time) even though they are still 2 months behind on payroll.......ARGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! :bang:

AND, i never took a real vacation but once, don't play golf every Friday and don't have to go to kids' dance recitals, school plays in the middle of the day, and play mister mom to a sick kid even though you have a full-time stay at home wife!

Working for a very small company that is a family business is just not for me. Boss man gets it, but his silver spoon sons don't GRRRRRRRRR. 👎

<RANT OVER> Next.....

I know what you mean. I worked for a logistics company that was family owned. They ran that company to the ground and ended up closing the doors after a year. All I could do was laugh:laugh:

This is the part about board exams that I think is just NUTS!!!

One UHaul. Two cats. Two people. Lots of stuff. One stop in Chicago. One 8+ hour drive.

Ugh.

One of my cats hasn't had to go on long cat rides before (the other is a champ and just slept the whole day), so I had to take her out of her carrier to get her to calm down and shut up. Getting her back in while in the front seat of a UHaul was hell. She managed to swat me across the face, smash my glasses off, which boomeraged into the cage as I stuffed her in it.

I was then blind, flailing around, screaming at my dad "WHERE DID MY GLASSES GO I CAN'T SEE I CAN'T SEEEEEEEEE" as the cat howled with rage while sitting on them.

Also we smuggled both of them into a hotel. I am a terrible person.

Oh. Oh my.

I am going to do this in a week, but I'm doing it in my car with FOUR cats, one of them deaf, while the boyfriend drives the uhaul. My two older cats are travel champs. The younger female and the youngest, my deaf boy, have never been on a long car ride. So this should be super.

Hey, at least you made it? Right?

I am seriously considering giving the deaf cat benadryl. Is that bad? 🙄

The problem is that he's like an old man - he yells all the time because he can't hear himself. And let me tell you, trying to get a deaf cat to shut up is NOT EASY. :bang:

yesterday it was financial aid, today it is suitcases.

more specifically suitcase weight limits. curse the person who decided that 50lbs was the max and that $100 was going to be the overage fee. YOU try fitting life into 150lbs total and see how that goes.

I decided to splurge (monetarily and calorically) and order Chinese food tonight. Having never ordered Chinese take out here in my new city, I diligently consulted the internet and online reviews and made my selection. 45 minutes later my food arrived... and all three things I ordered were terrible! And the steamed brown rice had black beans in it. WTF? I've never seen that before. The good news is that I didn't take nearly the caloric hit I was expecting because I hated the food, and although I was planing to have enough for leftovers for a few days, I threw the rest out so at least I won't keep eating the bad for me stuff.

Anybody in Fort Collins want to suggest somewhere good for take out? Or maybe that is information I shouldn't have so I don't turn to it in times of stress!

yeah... esp considering how many restaurants there are there, asian food in foco BLOWS. That being said, if anything, try Taipan for takeout. They're on the okay side of things. Most of these places can't even get sh** like crab rangoons right... that's sad. Stay away from anything seafood, cause it's just not going to be good, and you're risking a tummy ache. I gave up on the sushi idea, because $5 nigiri gets you quality far worse than dollar sushi in Japan (though that tends to be universal even on the coasts, but it's exponentially worse in landlocked states in the middle).

If you want Indian, go to Star of India. They're about as decent as you're going to get. Their naan was kind of disappointing, but everything else was pretty good. Never tried Sri Thai, but I heard they're good (dunno if I trust the source, but that's what I've heard).

On junkier food: I personally suggest matador over somewhere like Qdoba and Chipotle. They're like local family owned and have amazing hot sauces, $1.49 beer(?), as well as daily deals (like $3.50 for 2 fish tacos on Fridays). Paninos right by the school has $5.99 all you can eat pizza which is really good on Monday nights along with dollar drafts. I really like Krazy Karl's pizza on Elizabeth, but it's really bad for your diet (think ranch based sauce). For gourmet sandwiches I really like Spicy Pickle (but I also heard good things about Pickle Barrel). And hmmmmm..... lemme think, lemme think... everyone says good things about the Rio, but I think it's more about their margaritas than anything else and I don't drink so I never tried. Beau jo's on Mountain and College has these "colorado style" mountain pie pizzas that sound disgusting but are amazingly good. The crust is huge (honey wheat or honey white dough) and you're supposed to eat it with honey... sounds gross, but you've got to try. Erin, you too. You've GOT to try!

Disclaimer: foodie bf from boston says my taste buds have been hindered since my move to foco, so i dunno what you'll think of these places.

I feel like I have been posting here a lot so sorry if you guys are annoyed with me. I got a freaking dry socket. I have had the nastiest taste in my mouth for 3 days. Woke up this morning in PAIN. My hubby and I were supposed to go look at houses this morning so I immediately called him to tell him. Instead of support, sympathy, or whatever he yells at me and basically tells me to suck it up. I get that we are under a time crunch to find a new house but seriously. Whatever, I got worked in at the dentist and am already starting to feel better but a fight by with husband certainly didn't help my mood. Now I get to spend the whole day with him going from house to house and trying to pick one. Ugh so frustrated.

The woman in the cubicle behind me at my summer job. Yikes. She spends half her day on the phone about totally non-work related things (usually her house renovations and talking to relatives, since I can hear. Every. Word.) Naturally though, she also likes to spend time on the phone whining about how other people don't work hard enough. Amazingly the hypocrisy of that situation doesn't seem to bother her. 🙄

Darn! And I was so close to ordering from Taipan too! I decided against it because it sounded like they were a little more expensive and didn't have a website/online menu for me to look at, and I wasn't sure if they delivered (I was feeling super lazy and didn't want to go out). They got the best reviews that I saw though so I should have listened. I don't want to bash a place, but I will actively avoid LuLu's. And I was enamored by their online ordering system too.

I really don't have sophisticated taste buds at all, so I have really never been that picky about food... I usually think it is all good. So I was caught off guard when I didn't like the food at all! I'm usually very easy to please! Thanks for the other suggestions! I already love Beau Jo's... that crust does sound gross I agree, but it is SO good with honey!😍 There was a Beau Jo's near where I used to work so if we ever got a chance to go out for lunch (like twice a year) we would always go there!

We are having wildfires here in OK. One of my classmates that lives in the boondocks just got evacuated from her home. I wish we could get some rain and some relief. Stupid drought.

I feel your pain. It is absolutely scorching here in TX. We had 0.1 inches of rain for the entire month of July 😱 the grass is totally brown everywhere. Miserable. My poor dog can barely go for a 30 minute walk, even at 8pm - I'll have to start taking her out super early in the morning instead (ugh.....). We are used to doing walk/runs 4 miles a day and both of us are getting terribly out of shape.

Dry sockets - uggghh. 🙁

Ok, my rant:

Doggie's nose has decided to start depigmenting. 😡 Stop it, puppy. Don't get lupus. Or a hypothyroid complex. Of course it's way too early to tell if it's anything (heck, it may be sunburn for all I can tell at this point), but I worry too much about her.

I don't normally rant, but here it goes....

Moved into the new apartment last week. Was almost blown over by the scent of cat urine. Was informed that a previous tenant had owned cats that weren't litter box trained. Roommates boyfriend will be squatting here for the foreseeable future.

Left for the weekend. Came back, and first thing a cat goes into my room and pees on one of my towels. Spend the whole day cleaning the apartment and trying anything I could to get the smell out of the carpet that was underneath said towel. Performed "sniff test" around floor and found one other bad spot.

I am excited about going to vet school, but I hadn't expected my home to smell like a dirty litter box. Am regretting not getting a studio already.

Any suggestions for getting urine odor out?

Have tried:
- tough stuff
- Pet odor resolve
- dish detergent
- diluted apple cider vinegar followed by diluted dish detergent (suggested by a website)
- scented candles
- open windows, fan, air circulation
- diluted laundry detergent

It's improved, but I am still getting whiffs of urine... at least it didn't go on my bed.

Ive heard white vinegar works well with some parts water

my studio apartment was previously burned down........too bad I didn't realize until too late when I turned on the AC and the nice smell of burnt ashes was coming through the vents
