Work is changing insurance companies soon-ish. I need to get Rabies vaccines soon-ish...wanna do it before school. Found out my current insurance will cover the vax and they'll just cost me $30 per shot ($90 total)!!!! 😀 Obviously, I would like to jump on that shiz ASAP. But...my dr's office is just STUPID and can't seem to understand anything, so I have a feeling it's going to take a while. I hope I'm still on the same insurance when they get their **** sorted out.

Call Dr's office and leave a message telling them I need them to get me the vax because I'm going to vet school in the fall. Lady calls back and asks why I need the rabies vaccine- I repeat that I need it for vet school in the fall.
"Are you sure it's not Tetanus?"
"Yes. I need RABIES vaccines."
"Okay...I will give the doctor your chart..."

A few hours later, another lady calls back and leaves a message on my cell.

"Hi, Dr. wants to know why you want the Rabies vaccine. There's no reason to get it, unless it's for school. You would only need it if you were going to veterinary school or something. There hasn't been a case of Rabies since the 1950's."

ARE. YOU. F*CKING. KIDDING. ME?!?!?!?!??! 😡

Ok Nordi.... I am officially dealing with the same thing now. What a bunch of crap!
😡 One lady just told me I can only get the vaccines administered at an ER after I've been exposed to a rabid animal... this was 4.7 seconds after I told her I am attending veterinary school in August and the vaccines are required for attendance. WHY AREN'T YOU LISTENING TO ME?!?!?!!? 😡😱
I even called animal control to ask them where they get THEIR shots! lol Next I am calling my vet to see where/if he goes. And my primary care physician refused to order them for me :wtf:

I got mine at a local travel clinic. My PCP had no ideas, so I just went there. Insurance even covered part of it (I didn't tell them why I had gotten them...maybe they thought I had been bitten? Haha, I just submitted the paperwork). Maybe see if there are one of those places in your area?

Both ankles twisted in one week. Twisted the right one last Saturday but that one has healed. Then twisted the left one today walking to class. Now its swelling like crazy. Not ny best week.

I know what it is lol, just sad for FRV 🙁

It sucks that I'm probably going to have a rash covering most of my body for several days....

But, the "OMG I think I'm going to die" stabbing abdominal cramps at 1am this morning just made it that much worse.

PS - my SO works with elementary school kids and I'm pretty sure it one of their faults.

I'm pretty sure stomach cramping is the worst feeling ever 🙁 Feel better soon! 😍

I just got back from the doctor's office.... and they're pretty sure I have the parvovirus. 🙁

There was a chick at my vet's office whose BABY had that. She was freaking out, but thankfully, it's a pretty easy thing to deal with!

But I have to admit, it must be pretty scary for your doc to be like, "YOU HAVE PARVO LOLZ!" 😱

Food animal techniques.

It included awesomeness like nerve blocks, local anesthetics, epidurals, catheter placement, venipuncture, lots of injections, dehorning, tattoing, and castrating adorable baby calves. As well as cow poop splatters, spurting arteries and pee pools 🙂 The jeans I wore today might never be the same!

That sounds so awesome! We did dehorning, tattooing and castrating calves in my class last semester, too. So much fun!

Wah! Biochem exam Monday, huge paper due Tues, and Orgo exam Tues. Why does everything have to happen all at once?! At least I only have one exam every week for the rest of the semester after that? At least that's manageable... I wish I had some semblance of motivation at this point.
And my damn boyfriend (who's in Ireland) dumped milk all over his computer and ruined it. So I haven't skyped with him in almost a week, and probably won't until next week.

Ugh, biochem on Monday for me too. On allllll of the metabolism cycles.... Whyyyy do they all have to be on one exam? Whyyyyyy? Sorry, I'm whining. Wah.

Ugh I have it as well. And sacroilliac dysfunction. People without back pain don't understand what it's like to be in pain everyday. It makes you slightly crazy. Hope you start to feel better! Take something for the pain and rest in a comfy position 🙁.

Emi, don't fall apart on me!!!!!

The pain kind of went away during the day, but it is back. Ugh. I'm going to bed soon, so I hope it'll be better in the morning. And I hope chem lab won't take too long, because all that standing wouldn't help very much.

here's the good news: SGU is not a vet school that makes you take biochem in your 4 years 😀 AND when you get to 2nd term physio and have to do it all again, Dr. Zieger will be your best friend because she majorly simplifies it 😀 so learn it, ace it, dump it 😀

That's good to know. What do you mean when you "have to do it again"? Do what again??

So I know I've been whining on here all week, but this is at least amusing in it's horribleness.

I had my orgo 2 class last night, and it was the last class before the exam next week. So we went over practice problems he had handed out the class before and then he handed out another packet of practice problems and said we were going to go over them in class. Now this seemed like a minor miracle. This man does NOT teach. He doesn't answer questions in class or in his office, his notes are impossible to read, he likes to lecture organic structures at you. As in, just describes them verbally. Needless to say he's a horrible teacher, so we're all feeling pleasantly surprised. So we take a few minutes to do the problems on our own, then he asks people to volunteer to write the answers on the board. He goes through and tells us if there right or wrong, but doesn't go into any more detail than that, which is to be expected from him. So one of the students raises his hand and starts asking a question, and the professor interrupts and says, "oh, you're volunteering to come to the board." The guy says no, and tries to ask his question. Prof says again, "well you're coming to the board then". "No, I don't know the answer I just have a question." "Well I'm not answering it then." At first we thought he was kidding, but nope, he just wouldn't answer this poor kid's question.

He continues to go through the practice problems, one of which being a problem from inorganic part 2, which he insists is fair game. No one knew how to do it, so instead of going over it he just said well here's the answer, guess you're going to have to figure it out by yourselves... And then there was another problem that no one recognized and he says well, we're going to learn about this reaction in the next chapter, but it's really important in organic chem so....
It's one of those things where you just can't help but laugh, but god, what a waste of money. Right now a 46% in the class is a 70%. And yet there isn't a problem with his teaching and/or tests...

Ok Ms. 100% on your last exam 😉

Emi, don't fall apart on me!!!!!

I won't fall apart lol, some days I think it would be easier to, but I don't. I had to think long and hard about going into vet med since it's so physically demanding, but it's not something I let stop me, just something I have to overcome on a daily basis lol.

I am 100% with you on that. (haha). No seriously though, I sometimes wonder if I am ready for all of this, but if not now, never! We just have to think of the end result and enjoy the ride as best we can. We all gotta stick together!!!

Btw, the last exam was much easier to study for. Memorizing all of the metabolism cycles, including intermediates and enzymes?? Uhh, no thanks. We shall see what happens! Either way, no weekend fun for me! 🙁

I know I'm a little late, but I hope you feel better soon. I haven't gone through it personally, but my mom caught it a few years back (she works with pre-school/kindergarten children) and it was horrible. She complained about how much her hair and teeth were hurting her. I think my dad also ended up catching it but it was much milder for him.

Ugh! This stresses me out just reading it! I'm sorry you have one of those teachers. I would recommend trying to learn from the book as much as possible. I also got a tutor for both of the ochems and it was athe smartest decision I have ever made. I hope the department realizes he is a nut job🙁

He's been teaching there for the past 30 years or something ridiculous. The whole department is like this. With the exception of one or two professors all of them are HORRIBLE. I literally just teach myself everything from the book. I don't even bother going to class most of the time. It's brutal, and this is the same professor I had for orgo one too. SIgh.

Why is it SO FREAKING HARD to do your job and help me without giving me a big ol' attitude at the same time? Really?

:diebanana:

Oh yay. The head doctor brought his dogs with him to work today. AKA - the most ill behaved dogs ever will be barking their heads off non-stop all **** day.

...and he gets annoyed when other dogs won't stop barking....

Same issue for me too! I was referred to the county health department... Yea, my county is broke, we'll see how that goes.

haha yeah mine is shutting down an elementary, middle, and high school next year lol. I at least want them to point me in the right direction.

Ugh...

The crap part is, my insurance would fully cover the shot IF my primary care physician would order it for me (some BS about not being able to order the shot)...

At this point, I'm thinking about riling my cat up to the point that he bites me (he gets overstimulated easily), going to the ER, paying my $100 copay for that and say I was bit by an unknown mammalian assailant that got away, please start my rabies immunization series! 😉

What I will really end up doing is going to my HR dept at the shelter I work at and make a stink about it until something happens (its amazing to me that the animal control officers need the shot because its considered an occupational hazard for them, but I handle way more animals than they do (admittedly though, much less wildlife).

I thought about this too... but my cat won't bite me no matter what I do. We were even giving her an enema once and she was all pissy and hissy and she turned around to bite me, but just put her teeth on my hand and left them there lol.
And yeah, my insurance would probably cover part of it if my PCP would order it, but without any explanation, I just got a flat out NO from my PCP. *grunt* 😡
Let me know if you get a break through somehow... or send me your cat so he can bite me too! 😀

It's so ridiculous, but I've definitely considered this before. There are a lot of feral cats in the area, and if I just happen to get chomped by a cat at work I may be tempted to say it was a stray.... so silly that insurance won't pay for something when you're so obviously in a high risk group. I was working with a feral cat group and wildlife rehab last time I brought it up with my physician and although he wrote me a script, the vaccinations dept wouldn't do it without actual exposure. oi.

we have a very short and clinically oriented chapter on metabolism in physio 2 (but for example: krebs cycle-x goes in, y comes out, NADH/H+ regenerated, and not all the steps in between. oh yeah and ETC? that makes energy haha)

Not having a great day. Today is my Mom's birthday 🙂D) and all of my family and close family friends are going out for dinner. Seeing the mobile uploads on fb of everyone just makes me sad. I wish I could be at home, celebrating with them. I miss home, my dogs, my hamster, and most of all, my boyfriend. It sucks. It's times like these where I wish I was not going to be 600 miles away from all of that for the next 4 years. I'm all alone, sitting in my bed, making notecards for the dreaded cell bio exam on Tuesday. Almost done, only a few slides left. Ugh. I wish I could go see my psychiatrist, but my insurance won't cover visits anymore..

🙁 But your boyfriend is coming to visit soon isn't he? There's at least that to look forward to. So just keep thinking about that, get through your cell bio, and all will be better soon!

its my mommy's birthday too! must be the day that all the best mommys were born on 😉 and i feel your pain, my mom is in NY visiting her family for the weekend-wish i could be there too!

Just found out that a friend of mine from high school was in the hospital recently for alcohol poisoning. She recently moved to Madison, WI for a job and she really needed to get out of this town because she was having a really hard time. About two summers ago, her mom died from sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and has been having a hard time with it, and understandably so.

Throughout college, she's always been a pretty big drinker at parties, so no one is sure if it was on purpose, but apparently she almost didn't make it. Her mom's birthday is apparently this month, so my mom is wondering if that has any play into it.

I also heard from another friend that a good friend of mine from college is getting tests done to rule out possible lymphoma.

Pretty sure I bombed my radiology exam this morning.

6 pm, finally home after a longggggggg day, and all I want to do is curl up on the couch with beer and a movie. But noo, my DVD player apparently fried itself at some point in the past three days and wont play any DVDs. And the HDMI cable from my laptop isnt playing any sounds.

Plus its 82 degrees in my house even with the windows open and fans going and I really dont want to turn the AC on yet 🙁

At least I still have the beer part of the plan going?

Ugh, that radiology test. I did good on the slide questions, not so much on the rest of the test. Boo school. We're almost done!

If my dog just blew a cruciate or something, I might have to cry.

Throwing tennis balls. Spin, jump, land, yelp, three legged lame. UGH. It better be just a twist and fine by bedtime :-/

Oooo. I hope you're feeling better! Also, it's quite possible that the human kids aren't to blame... You work at the Center, don't you? Were you tested for campy?? I've had that (courtesy of my simian buddies)... Yes, you feel like you're going to die; but it does clear up pretty quick. :xf::xf: you're better!!

Friend's dog just had a TPLO done 2 months ago... other cruciate just blew today 🙁 . Good thing we work with a board certified orthopedic vet who she's worked for, for 15 years!

Don't say the T-word! I can't afford it.
IF, IF it's anything, I'll be trying the cage rest method and crossing fingers. dog's only 25 lbs...

She's sleeping now and I want to wake her up soooo badly and poke her knee. Trying to resist.....
