Sorry Jam and wld 🙁

So sorry Jam!

My mom had to put down her dog today. I feel so bad for her.

I'm sorry for your mom.

Thanks everyone. We are doing it tomorrow afternoon when I get done with orientation.

So every since I left anatomy lab today, the fingers in my left hand have been numb... for the past 4 hours 😕.
It sometimes happens to me, usually in the same arm each time, but it's really annoying. Having tingly fingers is really really annoying!

Couple of things come to mind here. Are you holding small objects with that hand for long periods of time? (carpal tunnel symptoms). Are you bending, sitting or stooping a lot? (pinched nerve)

Couple things about the carpal tunnel symptoms. Look up exercises on google to help alleviate them and wear the night braces!!!! They do help.

Even if it's not that, the exercises may help.

🙁 For all everyone losing a pet. It must be that kind of day. I was thinking about 1 of my cats today that disappered at the farm a year ago. I was actually crying I still miss her so bad. Haven't done that for months.

My dad just agreed to let my brother and his gf get a kitten. They already have a ferret they won't take care of and now I'm frustrated that I'm going to be taking care of another cat. Dad is saying that I won't have to take care of it since it won't ever leave their room. Sure that's super realistic. Apparently he told them this so that they won't complain when my dad adopts Samson (my mastiff at work see rave thread). I think it's a ridiculously idiotic idea.

 He said the cat won't ever leave their room. Your dad doesn't know cats well. 🙄 And 1 room is a very small area for a cat. 🙁

:soexcited: for possibly adopting Samson! He's so cute and looks so sweet.

I know right? This man has had cats his entire life and truly believes its a viable option. :slap: And I have cats downstairs that are really bonded and I doubt they'd get along with another cat.

My dad really wants Sammy to come home. He's doing so much better. I took one of my coworkers in his kennel to get to know him and then left them alone. When I came back she said 'you need to take him home, he loves you.' This was after she spent an hour trying to dissuade me from adopting a mastiff. A volunteer wants to adopt him but she only wants him because of his breed. He keeps growling at her to leave him alone.

I am hungry. I want lunch, but everyone and their mother are out at the moment. I will have to wait another hour and hope that everything isn't packed.

I just got charged OOS tuition. I'm numb. I have to drop out of vet school. :lame:
I'm hysterically crying in the parking lot and have to be at a meeting soon.

Emi! This must be a mistake. It just has to be. Can you go talk to financial aid, the bursar, whomever needs to fix it?

Why are they charging you now? Wouldn't you have known about your bill before classes started? I'd call right away.

You'd think. Apparently the grad department determines financial aid residency and are considering my temp position out of state as making me inelligible. I'm sitting in a club meeting with free food not eating bc my stomach is in knots. I'm so upset right now. I can't pay OOS tuition and will have to drop out of vet school. I'm at a loss.

Don't give up! Go in and talk to them first thing in the morning and explain the situation.

Don't you have state residency though? Or isn't there a way that you can prove state residency? I would fight for it as hard as I could before just dropping out, there has to be some way around it.

I'm trying to get it straightened out for sure, but I don't have high hopes with as bad as schools want money. I can't breathe.

Yes I have state residency, but I had a temp job in NY.

I'd have to go through the admissions process again and hope to get in.

I dont see how they can do this to you NOW. It just doesn't make sense. Talk to the vet school people. In the mean time, deep breath, bubble bath and wine sound like a good plan. We're all here for you!

Thanks y'all. I talked to our admissions officer and he said its not up to the vet school, it's up to financial aid.

Yes I have state residency, but I had a temp job in NY.

They literally cannot use that as a reason. I had to fight tooth and nail to be considered as an IS applicant when I was applying to Ohio and had lived there for years, and it took talking to multiple idiots and insisting on speaking to the people in charge to get it done. If you are a legal resident of the state, and they admitted you as a resident of the state, then they can't just randomly decide to charge you a gazillion dollars more! I seriously want to get on the phone and yell at people FOR you. 😡

So sorry about your loss, Jam.

Emiloo: That is CRAZY. Here, to gain residency, you have to work for 1 year and not attend post secondary education. If you had a temp job somewhere, I do not understand why that would affect you. Fight tooth and nail.

Emiloo, that's absolutely ridiculous! There must be something wrong somewhere. If you were accepted as an IS student, then you should be paying IS tuition. Hope things work out for you...

I actually had to take a day off work.
I am burnt out, I think.
I got out to the field to do some hoeing and I struggled with it. My brain didn't want to make my muscles move. My music didn't help to pump me up. I just couldn't do it anymore. I wanted to break down and cry in the field. I had to push myself very hard to keep going and was planning on quitting once I got to the end of the row (350 trees). Luckily, boss man came and told us to call it quits. I know that it is just weeding. I don't understand why I cannot keep up with the others.

To make matters worse, my boss wanted all of us to leave work early to come out for drinks. I wasn't in the mood to go, but after being in the car, I decided to attend.

I am stressed out about my job situation. If I don't get a job, I will likely have to move home and attempt to claim unemployment until I can find something. If I do get a job, I am looking at a really rough commute if I live with the boyfriend. Apartments in the area are really steep so I'm not sure if I can live alone. If I get the job and they want me to start early, I have no place to stay. My friend offered me a place... but this is the friend that I have ranted about before. After embarrassing me in front of my boyfriend a few months ago, I dread speaking to her let alone interacting with her.

And why haven't I heard anything back from the other places I applied?! I am a great fit for all of the jobs I have applied for.

The boyfriend is having a live podcast on Saturday at the bar. I was really excited to go, but sitting in a bar alone is not something I feel like doing.

I haven't moved from this sofa since I got home 4 hours ago. I am still in the sweaty, dirty clothes I had on at work.

I hope I feel better in the morning.

Emiloo: They're wrong. Take a deep breath and make them fix it in the morning!

I hope so, but since I am an independent that had a job out of state for more than a year, for tuition purposes I can be considered OOS I guess.
I can't even study right now, and I have no cable AGAIN, and I just want to crawl in a hole and die. I wish it was as easy as them making a mistake and me having to get it fixed, but I'm not so confident about it 🙁.
Please say a prayer if you pray, or whatever it is that you do, for me. I feel pretty damn defeated and depressed right now. I worked hard to get here, SO freakin hard and I will be SOO pissed if this doesn't work out for me. Thanks again everyone. I'll keep you updated.

Emiloo... i know this sucks... but seriously, the squeaky wheel gets oiled. Just go and complain nicely and then less nicely and then horribly and more loudly etc etc, until they change.

Go prepared with evidence of why they have their heads up their butts, and be firm and don't give in..

We know your personality, and you can do this.

 Not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm gonna give it my all. Just feeling rather awful right now. My tone will get firmer and my clothes will get smaller the deeper I have to get into this mess 😉

I'm also gonna present to them the fact that they will be losing a spot that could be paying them 28K a year bc they want an extra 20K a year. They get 28K a year, or they have an empty spot with NO ONE paying tuition. A-holes!
Is that the personality you were referring to SOV? 😉

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you Emiloo, Go Get EM!!! And keep us updated. I really, really hope it works out, I know how hard you worked to get there, you deserve to stay there.

Sure!!

Also bring any good evidence of your living in FL etc... and if you have tax returns in FL at all that would help. No matter where you earn the income if you still filed in FL.

Credit card bills, car registrations, licenses. The more the better. Overwhelm them with it!

I don't know that I would throw that in there since most schools will still accept people a few weeks into the year. Don't give them ideas.

Bring documentation of everything! Where you live now, where you've lived in the past, car registration, driver's license, and interview/acceptance letter if it specifies that you were accepted in-state.

Don't freak out yet, if they're charging you out of state tuition, they should be supplementing your loans with enough money to live still so don't drop out, don't do anything crazy, just go talk to people.

Definitely be the squeaky wheel, but don't get to the "throwing chairs" points. Be firm but nice. Talk to Mike Menefee since he's the financial aid guy that talked to us last year.

Was it clearly a temporary job? Were you also taking classes at the time? At any point did you change your residency to the state you were living in?

Lurking on a limb & ran across this. Emm - they have to out of their tiny little minds to do this after acceptance and matriculation. There has to be a mistake somewhere. Ensure they have your info correct and like everyone is saying, present these aholes with every piece of paper you can to state residency. Just b/c you worked in NY means nothing. Where did you file your taxes last year? If it was FL, they don't have a leg to stand on. However, if they still won't budge, gimme a hollar. I've certainly got nothing better to do, so me and my Louisville Slugger will come down. Little mucle never hurts. 😉

Will keep everything crossed! :luck::xf::luck::xf:

It was 6 month at a time contract position and I never changed my residency to NY. I still have car registration, voting registration, my license, a bank account, etc. all here in FL. I took classes, but they were correspondence courses.

Thanks again everyone. My eyes are pretty much swollen shut and I just want to sleep. Day 2 of vet school and I'm already behind on studying 😡. I will let you know if I find anything out tomorrow. You guys are awesome. 😍

It shouldn't be an issue for them. If it is, legally there is probably a case. I hope you get it worked out quickly and without much stress.

Thanks. I really don't want this interfering with my mindset while I'm trying to get through classes. Guess I'm being tested with adversity early on 🙄. Night all. 😴

Take all those registrations and licenses! I can't imagine they could dispute that very far. There's got to be a way for you to sort it out with financial aid. In the meantime, relax... bubble bath, wine, all the aforementioned things... and maybe chocolate, or bacon... or both. I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

OMG 😱 That's horrible of them to just tell you this NOW! After you've already started classes?! 😕

They had to have made a mistake, it just doesn't make sense.
Definitely yes to the wine suggestions!
