Oh DVMD 🙁 I know it sucks, but I promise that things will get better. You'll start to settle into a routine and time will fly before you know it. Maybe take a day off for yourself and do something fun or relaxing. It might help to settle your mind. One day at a time 😉

I would take a day off, but I haven't really been doing anything. So, I need to get busy. Trying hard not to dwell on the homesickness, today is a little bit better than yesterday. Just taking it one day at a time.
 
So since I still technically owe UF 5K for tuition with this whole screw up... it means I can't get my ticket for the game (that I PAID for) this weekend.... awesome! 😡😡😡

It's effing dumb. Same reason you can't register for classes if you have a hold I guess. :shrug: Not happy about it though. The worst part is that I can't even sell it to someone else, bc I can't even GET it! :poke:

Any UK peeps around?

Any of you know if they will shut off the power on the exact date the the electric bill is due?

I received a bill from February 2012 until the point I moved in. I gave it to the letting agency and they said they would take care of it, they never did.. That payment is due today and now the power in my flat is cutting in and out. I can't contact anyone because it is a Sunday at 9:45PM..

I really hope they don't shut it off.. Running to get a hot shower just in case.

So effing pissed with the letting company I went with here in Scotland..

It took them a month to get me a working washer and a working stove/oven.. It took them 10 days to fix the electrical outlets in the apartment (all of them had stopped working except the ones in the kitchen). They still have not given me the second key to the flat (two locks in the door, I only have one key, flat is on a busy street and if I ever got locked out right now, I could kick the door open, I asked for that when I moved in on July 25th), There is a huge hole in the front door from where a previous lock used to be (asked them on July 25th to fix that too, still have not even sent anyone out to look at it). A few days after moving in, I received an electric bill from February- up until the point I moved in, gave the letting company that bill and they said they would take care of it. That payment for that bill was today.. They still have yet to pay it and the lights/power in my flat has been cutting out for the last 90 minutes, it has now stopped but if the power gets cut in here... I am going to go complete bitch on their asses tomorrow morning, not to mention that I have a ton of food that I just purchased that will go bad if the power gets cut.

I have enough to deal with just with school and I really don't feel like dealing with all of this extra **** right now.


I would totally move out, but I am finally getting everything set up here and I really don't feel like moving.. Only 11 more months of this contract and then I will find a new place.

Night before classes start and I just feel off. My sinuses are painful and giving me a headache. I miss my boyfriend and dogs. I really hope football goes away on Fox and Family Guy comes on. 🙁
 
Every time I cook ANYTHING in the oven in my new place, the smoke alarms go off. I'm a good cook, really, they are just really freaking sensitive. Currently have a box fan set-up and a window open to try and prevent it! Gah! AND the stupid timer on the stove didn't work, so my steak is over done. Christ on crackers.

Our smoke alarms are super sensitive too. Steaks last night completely set them off.

That happened to me last year, too, except it went off whenever I used the stove top. We wound up just taking the battery out of the alarm and it never went off again🙄
 
Arg. Just tired of things being crappy. Every time I get one set of sh*tty things squared away, a whole bunch more come rolling in. If this was self inflicted I wouldn't be so upset about it, but there's nothing I can do about any of it. It's just getting really frustrating. And I miss my stupid ex. Finally. I wasn't really appropriately upset about it ending. And now I'm sad.
And I had to smash in a mouse's head with a brick today. I'm house sitting and the people's damn cat brought in a mouse but didn't kill it and it was all disemboweled and dying. So I smooshed it. It was very upsetting.
 
I really miss my bf. He said he'd call today to Skype, but never did. 🙁
 
Ugh! Just got home from work and I swear today was the day that "bloody hell" let loose. Three dogs came in with bloody diarrhea or vomiting blood and two had blowouts right there in the front reception. All of our phone calls were about bloody/bleeding something or another. And the night ended on a crappy note: the last patient I admitted was a dog that suffered heat stroke 3 hrs ago and was spewing out blood from her nose and mouth and the owners finally decided to bring her in. What's worse is that most likely she won't make it 🙁 I really hate it when this happens...

Okay rant over...now time for bed.
 
Why thank you honey. I totally wanted to hear how my story of beating the fencing master sparring today was totally the master "play dough-ing" his defense. AKA taking his skill down a couple of notches so I have a chance. That's so sweet of you.

Never mind that you were not there, and that I was telling a story about how he bum-rushed me and I managed to deflect his shots and get a lucky stab in to his chest and how it was super difficult. That was totally only because he lowered his defenses, because I totally couldn't have a bit of luck and skill.

I know I didn't beat the master at 100% of his ability today, but that doesn't mean I needed to hear it from you in my moment of triumph.
 
I'm getting tired of vinyl flooring. 350 square feet isn't all that much, right? Right?

Gotta finish it today, plus hang blinds, caulk, wipe out the cabinets, install the storage drawers, and put stuff back in the cabinets. Blah. Almost done.
 
I work (well, worked) as an associate in a small animal hospital where I was on call for emergencies 2 nights a week. The hospital is a 30 minute drive from my house and is a typical small animal day practice. The other night I had a call that a dog was choking and I debated for a few minutes before sending to the local ER. Got a "talking to" for that. (The same day I put in my notice, which I had planned to do anyway for a multitude of reasons).

Saturday night I got another call for what was quite possibly a GDV. I told the owners that I was happy to see the dog, but wanting them to make an informed decision, also let them know that it would take me 30 minutes to get there and that if the dog needed surgery I would have to refer them elsewhere. They made the decision to go to the ER hospital. Less than an hour later, I got a call from the practice owner, who proceeded to GO OFF on me for sending another case to the ER. (Um, excuse me, they decided to go there on their own...) I managed to keep my cool, and stood my ground, but I could not believe the unprofessional, inappropriate, verbal assault I was forced to endure. The weirdest part is that toward the end he did a complete 180 and started telling me how he thought I was a very talented doctor, etc. Bottom line is that I do not have to serve out the terms of my notice and I will not be going back there...however, I'm really afraid they're going to talk smack about me now...🙁 😡
 
I have a stomach virus. The fourth day of classes. I had to skip out on two classes today, and the perfectionist in me is having a ****-fit.

That sucks.... sounds like they care more about bringing in money to the practice then actual animal welfare.... I understand having to keep a practice afloat, but as a veterinarian you have to be able to give a client all of the options for the animal and let them know what is in the best interests of the animal in an emergency situation....
 
I am completely exhausted, both mentally and physically. I got home about 2 hours ago and just crashed. Didn't even realize it until I woke up and I don't usually crash like that. I can usually stay awake from the time I get up in the morning until bedtime. Just extremely tired. I have also started to realize exactly how much information we have had thrown at us and how very little time I have to study through all of it. Really wishing I could learn via osmosis right now.

Time to finish filling out EMS exemptions.

Also, called the letting agency to complain about all of the issues I have had. The guy I spoke with (happens to be the same guy who showed me the place) insisted that everything would be taken care of and that I would hear back from them. I called them at around 11:30AM this morning, have not heard anything from them today so I am going to call them first thing tomorrow morning and keep bugging them until they finally get their **** together.

My roommate constantly walks around sighing. All she does all day long is just let out big heavy sighs. Shut the eff up. :slap:
 
Those cool new red shoes I was getting? Yeah, they are a half size too small 🙁 My feet have grown? 😕 It hurts my big toe joint to wear them. I was soooo excited to wear them. I may have to see if I can somehow stretch the toe area a bit in the shoes, not sure how though.
 
This is a rant about moms and moving.

Ahem.

My parents did not give me the financial or moral support when I wanted to learn to drive (unlike my younger brother). So I depend on my mom to help me move.

When I moved after undergrad, my
mom made me cry and gave me horrible anxiety.

She asks: do I take the truck or the car? Take the truck. Better safe than sorry.

She arrived in the car.

She packed some of my things into it the night before. She sighed and groaned and played Tetris with my things. Then she got angry and started crying because there was no was she could fit all of my stuff into the car.

To me... It's no big deal. I leave some stuff behind or I it take it to the second- hand place.

Mom doesn't understand this. Instead she whines about how much stuff I accumulated and bangs it around the trunk of the car trying to make it fit.

I called my (ex) boyfriend's mom, crying, because I knew my stuff wasn't going to fit. I asked her if she could take some things for me.

Last time I moved, my new boyfriend offered. It was bliss.

Why is this important?

I am moving again on Friday.
The boyfriend is helping me, but my mom has to come get some of the big stuff that we can't move in his little Mazda.

I called her last night to ask when she can come get the bed. She got mad at me for "calling at the last minute". It's Monday, mom. You're coming on Friday.

I asked if she could take the bed to my new place. "That's not what we discussed! I'm not driving an extra hour for that! We discussed this two weeks ago!!" No we didn't. I ended that conversation by agreeing to ask the boyfriend if he wanted it in our new place.

Mom is a partial hoarder. So she rambled on about me storing the bed at her place.

Then she made a comment about how the mattress is too expensive to throw out and how she is tired of buying me furniture every time I moved (which made no sense because everything that was bought or brought with me was taken with me or sold).

Then she rambled on about my dad's fractured back and how he cannot move stuff (which I know).

Then she asked me about my job interviews. I told her what I had lined up. "Well, how are you going to get to work everyday?" Um, the bus. "I thought you said the bus sucked." It does. But I don't see you letting me use my loan money to purchase a car (like my brother). Yes. My situation sucks. It's almost like she was hinting that I come home and be unemployed rather than work a job that she doesn't approve of in a place she doesnt approve of.

There are more important things to worry about in life than where my mattress is going to go. I wish it was appropriate to tell my mom to go mess off. But that would be mean.
 
Wow Trem.... that really sucks.... but if you are taking out the loan money and paying it back then I would say buy a car..... she should have no say what you use the money for... just my 2 cents....



On to my small rant.... took out my contact last night in my right eye and holy hell my eye hurt and was red.... and then started pouring tears......hurt all night long and was gushing tears... made it harder to sleep.....still red and painful today....I think there is something stuck in the eye as it does not feel like conjunctivitis.... but have an appt at 4 pm to find out....ugh.... stupid eye - until then just eye drops and waiting.

O-M-G, funny story. I had a roommate a couple years ago that came down with red itchy, watery eyes. It seriously looked like he had pink eye. He went to the doctor and come to find out he had been using recalled contact solution and had a fungal infection in his eyes!!!! 😱

Wow that is scary.... thankfully my eye is not itchy... just hurts like a bitch.... really just hoping there is something stuck inside of it as funny as that sounds as that would be a quick fix...as the symptoms are not like pink eye (I have had that a few times in the past)....
 
Woke up to a cat with a ruptured anal gland. This has happened before. The worst part is that I hadn't even opened my eyes or rolled out of bed and knew what it was. This is going to get gross so you have been warned. No smell, he does a good job of cleaning himself, but there's a sound he makes while grooming it that's different from his normal grooming sound.

I would do the surgery to have them removed if I weren't so scared of the possibility of him losing all anal tone.

I feel so bad for him. He's my problem child.
 
Grrr. Totally can't figure out why my images are getting cut off when I transfer ppts to OneNote. It's really annoying because I'd like to put notes next to them.


Anyone know how to fix it?
 
Orca - It's a little bit of work, but I put the PPT images into the OneNote by hand using Insert>Screen Clipping after the lecture. It forces me to go back and read through my notes after class. Plus I can just cut out the part of the slide I want, rather than the entire thing.

This is absurd. I called them yesterday to inform them of the electric bill that they have yet to pay. I dropped the bill off to them back in July and was told that it would be taken care of, it never was. I was told again yesterday that they would take care of it. I JUST NOW (it is 8PM right now) received an e-mail asking what the issue is...

WTF!! You should know what the damn issue is, all you have to do is PAY THE EFFING BILL!! They also asked me what company this is through... REALLY? Do you NOT know what power company you are using in the flats that you rent? This is absolutely ridiculous.

Not to mention that no one has lifted a finger as far as getting me the second key to the flat or fixing the huge ass HOLE that is in the door, that is letting cold air INTO the flat...

I replied to her email and gave her a good piece of my mind too. Really starting to think I might have to move... Rather annoying because if I move it will be yet another month to 6 weeks to get normal internet capabilites... :bang:

This is getting totally ridiculous ... that would NEVER be tolerated in the US! Have you talked to any natives about rules pertaining to lessors?
 
I actually also have a landlord ranting issue.

So, my roommate and I have been trying to get in touch with our landlord for like a week because there are several things that need to be fixed. They weren't done before we moved in because the maintenance guy was away in Ireland. We understood that but he's been back since the 16th and still nothing has been fixed. And two of the things are safety issues. We have central AC and no AC filter because the one was disgusting.


Well we finally got a call back yesterday (after calling every day and even actually speaking to him) saying the guy was going to come in today first thing in the morning. Just got home from class and nothing is done. 😡

Hmm. Maybe I'll have to end up doing that, even though it might take forever since some lectures are like 76 slides long. I don't understand why it's doing it though. I never noticed that happening on my older computer and I feel like it's only certain images that are being cut off. I might end up just copying and pasting the original images over the cut off ones.

No, I haven't. Once these 3 issues are fixed, I am good to go. Hopefully nothing else will happen and I can just deal with it until the lease is up or I leave. Really hoping to transfer back to the US either right after Christmas break or for the beginning of year 2. I have already been in contact with some of the schools so hopefully that will work out. :xf:
