I sliced the bajeezus out of my thumb on my roommates "Ninja" blender blade last night when I was emptying the dishwasher. It bled for like 30 minutes at 11 when all I wanted to do was go to bed. It bled a little throughout the night and day today. I don't think I need stiches😕.

Just finished the LSU supplemental. I had an awful time with it. Oh, rewrite all my experiences again? Fine, I can just copy from my resume. I just need to add addresses and phone numbers and doctors' names...I can deal with that. But APPARENTLY my resume has weird formatting, so I need to copy and reformat everything before I paste it into the supplemental, and then reformat it AGAIN so that bold shows up and it looks right. And THEN the vet experience section--the one where I had to add a ton of information as well as reformatting--doesn't register for some reason and I have to do it all again.

At least it's finally submitted now. :steam:

I got my second Rabies shot yesterday, last night and all today I have been feverish, joint sore, and have an upset stomach 🙁

hormonal meltdown in 3...2..1... rawr!!! it started with the internet being ******ed, but now i can pretty much find any little thing to get annoyed at. like my roommate leaving a use piece of foil on the counter instead of throwing it out. silly!!

That was so me last week. I swore in the middle of a crowd because we didn't have time for lunch 😆

i got my rabies series back in 2008 (post exposure, got the rabies shot + 3 injections of immunoglobulin at the same time) and was fine (a little sore the day after) and the rest of the series went fine for me.

getting a booster tomorrow along with everyone else getting their first shots, so hoping it will go OK.

i don't think a reaction is THAT common but i'm not sure.

I just don't have the patience tonight for people on Facebook that obviously believe that TYPING IN ALL CAPS AUTOMATICALLY MEANS THAT WHAT THEY'RE SAYING IS MORE CORRECT THAN ANYTHING THAT ANYONE COULD DARE TO SAY!!!!!!!

Slow down, crazy. Slow down.

The only reaction I had from mine was when I got either my tetanus shot or my hep B at the same time. I slept the entire weekend after (they were done on a Friday).

My a/c doesn't want to blow cold air. It will blow air, but it won't cool it off. Of course this happened at like 8 last night. So it was warm to hot all night last night even with a fan going. This morning it was cooler out than it was inside. 🙁 Also I have about 12 bug bites. I know for sure one is from a mosquito. The others I'm not sure about. I was at a BBQ on Monday and there was a mosquito problem there. However, I'm also allergic to bed bug bites and we've had them before (never buying another couch off Craigslist again). We got a futon from Target and I'm hoping it's not that or the mattress that we kept (has BB covers and was stored in a garage in AZ for nearly two months this past summer and spent a week in a U-Haul in July traveling across the country). Heat is supposed to denature the eggs and kill the bugs (which before we cleaned up so well the pest guy didn't think we had a problem. I think the 30 or so bites all over my body would say otherwise). I just hate being so itchy and I'm completely scared that this new place might have these evil creatures now. It cost us nearly $300 to clean it all up last time in a place half this size. :xf: the mosquitoes just tried to eat me and that the BB are really a thing of the past.

I have to recollect 380 leaf tissue samples because they do not trust the guy who did it before me.

You hired a guy who had a bad reference and got a D- in the PI's genetics class. He built an Ikea cabinet and desk drawer incorrectly (damaged one, completely ruined the other). He ruined another researcher's work because he was too lazy to read labels. He collected other leaf tissue from the wrong trees, cross-contaminated samples and collected from old leaf tissue instead of new (which gives lower DNA yields). You ask him to make a map of these samples and what plates they go in and upload it on the Wiki on his last day. He says yes. Then he pawns it off on E and I and claims there is no Wiki. And yet you let him collect 380 samples by himself?!

Gah.

I mind this just as much as fieldwork. It took me 2 hours yesterday to collect 96 samples. The plants are oriented in this coldframe awkwardly so I was tripping to get to the plants in the back. These are plants that get tangled amongst each other easily, so I have to sort of rip them off each other. It's just a mess. And it's boring. And warm. I hate it.

On the plus side... two days left until I am unemployed. Also, it is nice to know that the PI trusts me. I just didn't think I would have to clean up my coworkers' messes in a RESEARCH LAB. Fastfood? Been there, done that.

You're not having much luck with the orifices of your head. 🙁

yeah didn't get much sleep last night - way to painful.....closing it hurts, opening it hurts....constantly pouring tears.... I look like a freak....if the meds are working they are very slow.....OUCH

Did you have something stuck in it? How are the teeth?

I dunno.... feels like something is still stuck in it with the pain and the watering, but apparently it is just an injury that turned infection..... never thought an infection could hurt so damn much...... holy hell.......

the teeth are doing better.... the pain is way down... and the gel they gave me seems to be helping so that is good.... hoping I am over that hurdle....

seems if it is not one thing it is another....

hoping this eye clears up before tomorrow night as I have an event.... ugh

One of my cats pissed on my backpack this morning. Ruined all of my stuff in it including my planner and all of my systemic path notes. It was not a great way to start the morning.

Whoa! Bad kitty!

I'm sorry, that is horrible. My min pin likes to vomit on important things... But urine is a whole different story!

My Lab threw up all over our sofa one night, poor guy, and we didn't realize until morning when it had seeped in. Needless to say, we bought a new couch.

Yeah I don't know which one of them did it or what I did to piss them off but they succeeded in ruining my morning.

My roomie's dog did that a couple months back, and my laptop 🙂eek🙂 was in the bag... thankfully didn't soak through too badly and the comp was fine, but it was still really annoying. It also took like three washes until I didn't smell random wafts of urine. 👎

At least it was a planner and some notes, and not like your laptop or something in there?

Add some vinegar to the wash, then rinse, then wash it normally with detergent - that will get the smell out completely. Or use Nature's Miracle or similar enzymatic cleaner. If you just wash it, it may still smell like kitty pee and the kitty might think it wise to do a repeat. Not that I know anything about cats that like to pee on things... 😏

Is that common?

I don't believe so, but I did call the nurse and she did say that what I was experiencing was a common reaction. I know some people in my class that have had reactions to the vaccine, two people I know had similar symptoms to me, another had to go to the ER, and one still has achy joints to this day... but that is out of a class of 123, so I would say they arnt that common? I am feeling completely normal today, except my joints are still a little achy.

Hey Trem, just thought of something. If you want to move to western MN, you could probably get a job at the Research station on campus. Could be doing anything from livestock(dairy and swine) to horticulture research. I know our Dairy Research Professor just got a HUGE grant and he's itching to get started. Housing is fairly cheap, the U pays well. You could finish up any pre-reqs you need. It's a win-win!

😀

I am getting so tired of my cat pooping outside the box. She's always done it periodically, throughout her life(she's 9 or 10, I got her around age 1), but for the last 9 months she has pooped in her litterbox I think a total of 5 times. :bang: She's been to the vet multiple times in her life to try and figure it out, nothing. These last 10 months she battled with an middle ear infection, that's almost completely clear. She still has very slight balance issues, but the vet and I don't think that will ever go away. (she was at my parents farm for a few months, where she acquired ear mites, that my parents didn't take care of. I was 5 hours away. I felt so bad for her when I found out. Poor itchy ears, turned into an infection.)

She always pees in the boxes(oh, yeah, I have 3 boxes for 1 cat). The few times she pooped in them, there was no pattern. One time it was in a fresh box, the next time it was in a dirty box. She always chooses either the bathroom floor, the kitchen floor or my roommates room occasionally. She has never pooped in the living room or my bedroom. We have all hardwood floors, thank god!!

It's becoming extremely annoying to always have to be on the lookout when walking around and cleaning up piles. She poops at least once a day, sometimes 2! :bang::bang:

E: And this is the cat who will come in from outside to pee in the litterbox and then go right back to playing outside! *shakes head* I don't get her, at all.

How come it seems like vet/pre-vet students end up with the pets with issues??

Eek! Not looking forward to getting this eventually ... if anyone gets side effects it will definitely be me!! :annoyed:

If you and your family can afford it, I would recommend a vet behaviorist. They are pretty expensive, though, so proceed at your own risk. The behaviorist I worked with had moderate success in these cases.

Spent another day at the eye hospital..... my eye was worse this morning and incredibly painful..... called earlier today and whoever I got on the phone just said to try more pain killers and eye drops.... around 4 pm I called again and spoke with a nurse... when she found out it was worse and the amount of pain she said I need to come back in.... so back I went.

The triage nurse assessed me then put a few drops of anesthetic in my eye to hold me over while I waited for the doctor..... wow the one thing that made it feel better.....a little relief from the pain..... of course, when it wears off it comes right back... finally called in and the doctor looks at my eye says there is a good scratch and definite bacteria wants to have a swab taken and also wants to have a senior doctor look at my eye. So the senior doctor looks at my eye and says it could be one kind of bacteria along with a slow healing scratch....or another much worse bacteria that is associated with contact lenses (sorry can't remember the names of the bacteria) - pain makes my brain mush. If it is the really bad bacteria I would have to be on 6 wks of antibiotics which would be quite expensive - she does not want to put me on that unless it is confirmed, so she wants me to see a specialist tomorrow morning.

She tries a bandage type contact lens in my eye to try to take the edge off the pain, but that did not help at all so we took it out. She finally decided to send me home with tramadol for the pain just for the night and valium to help me sleep. And I have to continue my antibiotic drops.

Ugh.... I have never had this much fecking pain from a infection before in my eye. it is crazy.... I feel like I am falling apart one body part at a time and I have a very high pain tolerance, so for me to use pain killers at all is rare and now I need hard core ones.

I am really hoping it is not the really bad bacteria :xf: But I want him to have a good idea of what we can use to clear this infection up and make the pain stop!

P.S. if anyone was wondering tramadol makes you dizzy - so now we know how the animals feel

Wish I could. Need to save up to pay for classes though!

She knows she is doing something naughty, too! I'll be in the kitchen making food and she'll poop right in front of me, then run and hide under the bed for an hour. With a clean litterbox 5 feet away! But she ALWAYS pees in the boxes. Vet and I have done many fecals, we've switched her food many times over the years. I can't afford endoscopy, so who knows if anything is up there causing problems. She doesn't appear to be in any pain before, during, or after defecating. But, you know cats, they like to not show pain.

It doesn't bother me soooo much, but it really bothers the roommate. I've learned to kind of live with it.

Devyn, you are having the worst luck. You and Emiloo! Eye pain hurts like a mother.

:xf: that it is NOT the really bad bacteria and it clears up soon for you! I couldn't imagine trying to study with that. Or even pay attention in class.

Update...
Oh wait, there isn't one 😡

:xf: That your eye is feeling better soon. I hate having issues with my eyes, it is always the worse type of pain.

Yeah..... I definitely have found in the last few weeks that eye and teeth pain are among some of the worst I have to say.... it really is amazing.....

Yeah not sure what the issue is.... I feel like I am getting all types of weird painful ailments recently... I am usually a very healthy person. (knock on wood)

Thankfully I have a little less than 1.5 weeks till classes start, so hopefully I can sort it out prior to then..... as yeah once classes start it would be hell trying to concentrate with this kind of pain...

I can now say that tramadol is a good drug - it is the first thing I have taken so far that has taken the edge off.....

Oh look, a gorgeous bra in a beautiful violet color.

Oh, damn. They only make it in nude or black in FTB size.

Why? If it's made out of the same materials why do you insist on punishing those of us who are outside the average bra size?

Samson, my fearful mastiff at work, is being a butt to everyone but me. The head of behavior gave me a list of things to do with him to expand his comfort zone and he is making progress. The way everything was worded today though seems like they're just trying to get him good enough to go home (specifically with me). The problem: I have two cats and a 2 year old mastiff is a huge commitment. I'm worried I'd never be able to find housing with all of them. But it's stupid for me to have saved a dog and then say two weeks later hey Sam it's been great but I can't take you so they're gonna euth you for your behavior issues.

Other part of the rant: my dad wants him and I found a cute collar for him. I feel like I'm letting my heart decide and not thinking rationally.

Pretty much everyone I've told in the past six months that I'm applying to vet school/grad school has said something along the lines of "That's really difficult. Are you sure you can handle school? Do you know you have to have experience to apply to those things? Have you done any research on this?"
Everyone from friends' parents to relatives to random strangers I'm making small talk with.

Does this happen to you guys too? Is there something about me that says "I make serious career choices without any preparation or research?" I'm getting to the point where I want to say "No, I'm applying in a few weeks but have no idea about what I'm applying to! And I have no confidence in my ability to get through school!"

It's pretty minor compared to most of the rants on here, I know. And my immediate family knows that I know what I'm doing, so it really shouldn't bother me. I just...gah!

That would be so awesome... ... ... if I were American!

I should know by Friday if I have a job lined up. 👍

Feel better, Devyn.
I have had minor eye problems and they are NOT fun. I never had an infection, but I did have this weird spasm which made my left eyeball want to turn in towards my nose. This occurred on two occasions and each lasted for a couple of days. I was not in pain but it was so fricken' uncomfortable.
I can hardly read your eye posts... they make me feel icky. 🙄
I really do hope you end up feeling better.

Re: eye pain...

When I was a senior student I scratched my cornea. No idea how I did it - was OK all day, that evening started to hurt a little bit, and by the time I went to bed it was SO painful all I could do was sit there with tears streaming out of it. No way was I getting to sleep. Ended up going to the ER because the pain was so bad. They put proparacaine in it (which was amazing) but unfortunately you can't just keep using that, so they sent me home with Vicodin. I took 2 (which is more than I have ever taken in my life, and I am a horse person - former eventer - so you KNOW I've had some injuries 😀) and they did not TOUCH the pain. The only thing that allowed me to sleep was putting an ice pack on my eye. So if what they've given you still doesn't help...try that 🙂

I think everyone has that Someone on their Facebook that is over the top when it comes to politics.
Well tonight, I'm about to block my person.
I understand the Republican National Convention is on. I understand you support Romney, but good gosh woman, you do NOT have to transcribe each and every speakers speeches into Facebook status' !!! Like no joke, every single speaker , and their entire speech has been her status' all night long!! I'm not a Romney hater, and yes I believe in free speech, but come on, if I wanted to hear them speak I'd A. Watch it, or B. YouTube it.

I am sure that everyone here knows how much I appreciate my personal space. Some of you will probably find this funny, I am not amused though.

I am waiting for the bus and suddenly this guy randomly walks in front of me, stops, faces me, gets about 6 inches away from my face and nods his head, then proceeds to pat my shoulder and walk away. Seriously, respect my personal space, please.

Well tonight, I'm about to block my person.

Replace "politics" with religion and it's the story of my life. 🙄

I just unfriended my horrible best friend that I talked about often on here. She embarrassed me in front of my boyfriend and best friend by saying "That happened 6 years ago. Get over yourself. Stop being negative. Now tell me 3 things you like about your job." Then she goes on Facebook and complains about the hotel stays, long hours, hard work and heat. I could have blocked her statuses... but she is not a nice person anyway.

🙄
