No definitely not... this is why I don't take drugs usually... I really don't like them...

how the hell do people get addicted to this crap?!

I have no idea. They usually make me a little dizzy but no nausea for me... But I usually just pass out and become really tired... I have no idea how people get addicted to that stuff though.

I know, right? There is nothing pleasant about being on heavy pain meds 😕

@Abney - is it possible that another dog in the building is barking and setting her off? Is she sensitive to noises in the hallway or other apts? Just a thought.

I'm the exact same way. Everything makes me nauseous and I hate it. It's hard to have chronic medical conditions and not be able to take pain meds 👎
I always wonder how people can get addicted. I usually choose the pain over the nausea.

@abney I might try Rescue Remedy. I've seen it work on a lot of dogs, it just sort of calms them down (works on people too - I use it when I'm about to have a breakdown and it helps clear my head a lot). You can put a few drops in the water dish, or you can put some with water in a spray bottle and mist it around the apartment before you go.

@devyn I hope you get better soon! It sucks when the drugs you get for one thing have terrible side effects. It's just adding insult to injury.

So many rants in one day...

Devyn: I really really hope you feel better soon. Seriously. I can't imagine having a s*** ton of eye pain on top of a crappy feeling stomach...just feel better soon.

Abney: :xf: that things work out with your pup. She's probably just getting used to the place so give it time.

Trem: 🙁 I'm so sorry you didn't get the job. But like others said, keep your chin up high and keep moving forward. Don't let this one obstacle step you back. You've got this! 😀

Abs, I am only saying this to offer a glimmer of hope, but when my dogs moved into the apartment two weeks ago, all they did was bark at every tiny sound. It was REALLY obnoxious and I was worried as well. They have since stopped doing it and only really bark if they hear a door slam or something. Don't know if your pup will do the same, but mine got used to it. :xf::xf:

Classmate just jumped down another classmate (and fellow SDNer)'s throat on FB and it pissed me off. 😡
Seriously people? It's the second week of classes... simmer down, she was just trying to help! Bleh!

I know, right? There is nothing pleasant about being on heavy pain meds 😕

I don't really have side effects. They just make me go to sleep really quickly. Which is great. I only take them when I have reeeaalllyyy bad back pain and can't sleep. Knocks me right out. 🙂

I have been up for 35 hours, worked during that time, have to be back at work in 7 hours. And I cannot fall sleep. :bang:

I could really use a "me" day. 🙁

I could really use a "me" day. 🙁

Me too. This has been the week from hell, most of it surprisingly un-vet school related. I'm headed home for labor day weekend and to try to sort out my relationship. My boyfriend has been weird since I've been back at school for no good reason and I'm pretty tired of it. If this is just how it's going to be, I can't handle it- not on top of school. It's been like a roller coaster of moodiness and I seem to be the only one he takes it out on. 🙁 What a bummer. Wish me luck 🙁

Sorry to hear that. Best of luck.

I just woke up and my very first thought was finally realizing the correct answer to a question I struggled with on the anatomy practical. :smack:
I annoy myself.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to keep my cat from making my brand new box spring her home? It's pissing me off. The 5:00 am part of it makes me really happy as well. 😡

Things are hard enough without a butt-head BF. Hope he changes his ways...

I'm trying hard to be the good girlfriend and meet BF on his lunch to go to REI together on my day off. But I've been wandering around his work for 20min waiting for him to be released for lunch and I have a lot of stuff to get done today so we can spend tomorrow as a couple.

So frustrated. Am I a bad girlfriend for wanting to take off on my own for a day and not wait on him? (it's not unusual for me to have to wait when he can't actually leave for lunch yet he still expects me to come down for it.) He has a 30 min lunch and I've now spent nearly that waiting.

No you're not a bad GF atty all. Just explain to him you'd love to have lunch but you'd rather have the whole day tomorrow

I'm assuming your cat is tearing up the underside to crawl in? Staple plastic to the underside(the thick plastic, like painters use).

My head hurts. I feel like someone has placed vice grips on my skull and is trying to crush my head... I thought maybe it was because I was hungry but I ate dinner over an hour and a half ago and there has been no improvement... 🙁

Thanks, I think I am going to give in and take some ibuprofen since the pain isn't going away on its own, it has been about 5 hours now... I also can't get rid of the pulsing sound in my right ear... Kind of annoying. I was going to stay up until early in the morning 2 or 3AM watching movies, but I may ditch that plan.

So today was kind of cool but also royally sucked.

Up at the zoo, 2 out of the 3 llamas are sick. One has had diarrhea for 2 weeks with no idea why, the other was a new problem: lethargic, not wanting to get up, WAY bloated. No gut sounds, so vet was thinking colic. While the staff was getting supplies ready to tube the llama, we decide to pop over to disimpact the tegu (giant lizard thing) really quickly. This turns into an 1.5 hour ordeal where I finally almost pass out at the end because it's like 90 degrees in the room, it's 3 o'clock and I really needed to eat some lunch. I haven't ever passed out so this is not the norm for me.

Then we finally get a chance to tube the llama. Thankfully it wasn't standing so we just kept her sitting and I held onto her head. All was going well until all of a sudden she DROPS DEAD. I had already hurt my back restraining her and then we spent the next 4 hours necropsying her. Cut into her abdomen and 10+ gallons of fluid came pouring out. Found a crazy weird mass thing that looked like a giant sperm and the head of it was calcified on the outside like an egg shell. Way weird. And then maybe some intestines that had perfed. So needless to say it was a really long day. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to walk tomorrow with my back. And yeah. Kind of cool, but a bummer day all around.

My baby boy (5 year old Lab/Pitt) started getting green discharge from his eye a couple days ago. Took him to the hospital with me today and I'm happy, no ulcerations or anything on his eye, but definitely has a little infection going on. We also did an ear cytology and and he's got a small yeast infection 🙁 ... Dermavet and Neopoly-Bacitracin BID for 14 days. He is NOT a happy camper.

That's weird! Did they send the mass off to a lab? I'm interested to hear what it comes up to be!

My back hurts really bad and my head a bit, too. I really just wanna go back to bed. 8 more hours to go.

And it's game day and I'm at the hospital. Next weekend is the first college game I'm going to.

Yes we did! Pretty sure it's going to come back as an alien life form, so we'll see.

I need some support, guys. I'm feeling super down. It's only the first week of school but I've been working full time for the past several weeks, and I will continue to do so for another week and then it will taper down some (but still more hours than I'd like)-- I'm seriously considering quitting my tech position. I've complained about it here before; it is SOO stressful. It's to the point where I've been having nightmares about it :scared:

I'm taking some pretty tough classes this term and I need to bring my GPA up. I've never been a very good student so it's going to be quite a push for me to pull A's. I also have quite a bit of work to do on my VMCAS app and my supp's. And finally I'm having to petition some graduation requirements because I'm a transfer student. It's a mess.

I worry, however, that if I quit I will be burning bridges at this 8-doctor clinic. I know that the vet I've been shadowing will allow me to continue shadowing her, but I wonder if she will think less of me (she went to undergrad full time for the better part of her 4 years). Will I also lose them as a job reference? Maybe not, but they're certainly going to think that I burned them. They're all so stressed out over there and the tech turnover rate is so ridiculously high that they might brush me off as "just another one of those ones...."
Then, of course, there's the loss of income factor 😱

I would say just explain to them that you need to take some time off to finish up your applications and then maybe go back once apps are in. And at that point just go in for fewer hours. If they don't understand that you need to do this to get into vet school then that's their problem. Especially if it's a stressful job anyways.

Pretty much agree with wildcat.
You have to take care of yourself, and if you sit down with the vet and explain some of what you posted here, and hold out the possibility of returning as wildcat said, then they should be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about a "job" reference right now. Keep your eye on the prize, and focus on getting your app done right, and your classes nailed down.

My old man (dog) was on a long course of antibiotics for a cough that he gets at night usually in the wee hours of the morning - he has hx of aspiration pneumonia.... I was lucky enough to have the clinic just write me a refill Rx when he started coughing again.....well the Rx just finished up a few days ago.... this morning he was coughing in bed..... 🙁 ugh..... if it continues back to the vet we will go... not sure what it is, but assuming the worst at this point... he is getting older by the minute really.... didn't chase & bite the vacuum as I was cleaning the house today

I was probably just putting a bandaid over the issue..... I hate watching my dog get old

I accidentally let a feral cat out at work today because I was being stupid and overlooked several signs in favor of one. A coworker went to scruff it while it was bolting (poor decision) and it bit him. I feel so bad. Coworker isn't upset though he says he's equally responsible and shouldn't have even agreed to open the kennel.

I had something pretty similar happen at the clinic where I was working this spring - the tech and I were both being stupid, and I ended up getting bitten - no one else did, fortunately. Try not to feel too bad about it. After all, now you'll be more alert dealing with the ferals. I hope your coworker's bite isn't too bad.

I hate long distance relationships.

Don't get me started. Currently my boyfriend is in PA running a 5K with all of our best friends from college, while I'm 1500 miles away studying my ass off and sitting in my apartment by myself.

According to my maps app, mine is 1660 miles away. I missed his phone calls 20 minutes ago because of work. He texted me saying that his grandpa died. I really want to talk to him and make him feel better but I don't have a phone card anymore do I just have to hope he calls again. 🙁

I'm with you guys, WEN and PP. I miss my boyfriend so so so much. Long distance is hard and very emotionally taxing. I talk to mine every night for about 30 min and that is it because we are both busy. He will be going to medical school next year, so I won't be able to live with him again for at least another 3.5 years.
But! We've been doing this for a year already. It is doable! Just look forward to breaks. When I am home, we spend every night together, so we at least get to see each other everyday. Send each other letters (via snail mail)- those are always fun and heart warming. Skype! See if you can plan weekend trips to visit (WEN). Keep yourself busy, it helps the time go by fast and keeps you from feeling in the dumps about the distance.
If you two ever need someone to talk to about long distance, feel free to PM me.

Well. A client at work had a thunder shirt she didn't ever wind up using that happens to fit my dog. We shall see how it goes. I also got her a treat ball that she has to roll to get some super super yummy treats out of. :xf:

Been watching movies, and eating nutella and chips and salsa for hours. And crying. That's there, too. I don't know what's making today harder, but it is.
