How many people in vet school are under 21??

The younger class here has a 17 year old, two 19 year olds, and a handful of 20 year olds. So, it happens - they just keep an eye during parties to prevent any issues with that. They seem like perfectly capable people, too, and maturity is not always measured by age, so yep. 🙂

Eh, I'll get over it. Just sucks that it's just like any other day of the year. I miss my Grandma. She always made sure we had homemade treats on our birthdays.

Next year I am taking the bull by the horns. It's my 30th and I am not trusting any of my friends to do anything special. I will be renting the bar bus and having a party! Maybe make it an all day thing with casino, then bar. You are all welcome!

Why do I do this to myself? An old friend that I haven't talked to in several years (for good reason) texted me out of the blue today. I spent a little time catching up with her through text. BF just called me (it's 3:30am 🙄 )... His brother (who's life he saved three weeks ago when he tried to commit suicide and has been letting him live with him ever since) told my BF that he wishes he (the BF) would have died in Iraq. 😱
Who says that to their brother who has been the only person there for him throughout his whole life? He's really hurt by what he said... obviously, but I told him that his brother was just really mad and was trying to say the most hurtful thing he could.
I was beyond impressed at the way he handled it compared to what he would have done a year ago 🙄 but I still feel bad he ever had to hear that, let alone from his own brother. 🙁

Sounds like his brother is a complete and utter mess and has no idea what the hell he is saying - is pushing back against the people who actually care about him and trying to hurt those around him when he is the one who is actually hurting... it really sucks for your BF though.... it is horrible to hear something like that, but hopefully your BF realizes that his brother does not actually mean it and is just not in the right mind state right now. Sorry

skipped classes today (only 2 lectures) to take care of my sick dog..... hoping the new med I got for him will work... he has been on it on the past and it has.... fasted him last night, so we had an uneventful night as far as the diarrhea was concerned thankfully... he has been sleeping a lot..... fed him a bland diet this morning.... he has had 3 doses of the meds now.... just have to wait and see what comes out the other end now... ugh....

yesterday I came home to messes all over the kitchen floor....twice because I had to go to class... and he was completely out of it passed out when I got home.... it is taking a lot out of him.... I am sure he has lost some weight as well just by the looks of him....he is not dehydrated just yet....able to drink water....but... worried if it is not a stomach bug then it could be something worse..... just hoping he gets better 🙁

Ah, not the same as skipping grades. They fulfilled HS qualifications by taking college classes. Like taking AP English or AP History kind of thing. So, basically, they graduate college and HS at the same time. A few people did enough classes to be half done with college when graduating HS. I could see a few gunners getting into Vet School around 18.

Also, some schools have a thing called Fast Vet(or something similar) that you can apply for your senior year of HS. Basically, the person gets good enough grades, they take 1 year of undergrad(high science classes) and get admitted to the Vet School.

Wish I had my head on straight in HS and had done either of those tracks. Instead, I went the long way 'round. 10 years later trying to finish undergrad classes.

We had the cutest litter of Catahoula puppies come in to the shelter two weeks ago and the last of the six was adopted on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday my favorite of the litter, a little deaf white merle, came in sick and tested positive for parvo. Two days later her sister came in with parvo. Vets thought maybe just the girls that were housed together got it. Today one of the boys was put down after getting parvo. The mom who hadn't been vaxed just got pulled from adopt for parvo watch but not before she's been all over the shelter and outside.

I hate parvo so much.

Thanks guys. I was able to talk to him and calm him down. I told him his brother was wrong to say it to him, but that he was only doing it to try and hurt him and didn't mean it. My BF has had a pretty tough time with coming home from Iraq so it just was a really really low blow. He feels better today and knows his brother was just being an arse. He sent me a picture of his black eye this morning... apparently his brother punched him when he was trying to get him in the car to take him home. 🙄
He brought him back to the psychiatric ward at the hospital right then and there (he just left there 2 weeks ago for trying to commit suicide). Just wish I could give him a big hug.

Got our group project grades back today. I find it ironic and upsetting that the majority of points that our group lost were the responsibility of a person that became controlling and judgmental about the parts of everyone else. We split the project up evenly and everyone was responsible for their own part. As vet students we should have been able to handle that. But instead of paying attention to their part, this one person nitpicked at what everyone else put together.

My rant:
I had something happen to me a few years ago that causes really painful random sciatic pain that will last a few days. Every time it happens I am practically immobile. It hurts to wear anything on my legs, even my really soft light sweat pants rubbing on my thighs feels like someone is stabbing me. It shoots down to my legs and just completely ruins my life for the week or so it's around. I want to punch the person that did this to me each time it happens. It is extremely frustrating and I am not looking forward to class on Monday if it doesn't get better soon. It's also affecting my studying and I really need to get on Histology right now 😡

There's not really much that touches it unfortunately. Nerve pain blows. I need to get to the doctor to get some gabapentin or something, but that would require me to have 3 seconds during the week to do so 🙄. (No excuses for DVMD though 😉 ) And even then, gaba isn't always effective for nerve pain, and takes time to build up in your system. This is just something I need every once in a while, and can't afford to take gaba all the time. I'm sure there are some heavy pain pills like oxy but I don't do well on those... just end up sick as hell. I just wish it wasn't so debilitating. Not to mention my carpel tunnel hurts so badly right now, I can't even turn my door knob 🙄. Am I 93 years old and don't know it?

Migraine meds do nothing for me either. 🙁 The only thing that helps me is to take copious amounts of ibuprofen(3-4 every 4 hours, usually because I end up puking so much from the migraine that they are ineffective, bah). That and hiding under a heavy comforter and burying my face into the pillow. After a few hours of agony, I can usually fall asleep and then sleep it off for 9+ hours. The worst one lasted for 3 days, I ended up in the ER in the middle of the night, couldn't stop puking, couldn't even peak out of my sweatshirt hood, any light hurt, had to have 3 shots. I hope to never be that bad again.

Migraines suck. I feel your pain JMO.

I haven't had a bad one in 6 months. I've been waiting for it. 🙄

I cut my finger while making dinner, right at the point in preparation that I couldn't switch what I was making without wasting food, but still had a bunch of chopping and washing to do. Of course, the cut is on the same hand as the finger that got slammed in a door over a month ago and still hurts. I asked a doctor about it, and she said "oh yeah, this sort of joint injury just hurts for a long time. I had one that hurt for more than 6 months."

So now I have an injured joint and cut finger on the same hand, making two fingers mostly useless.

I have had these symptoms come and go since I was 16 years old. I have been to the doctor a few times for this between 16 and 20. We have a lot of autoimmune disease in my family so I have had a couple of ANA titer tests since these symptoms can be from an autoimmune disorder. The first ANA titer came back insanely high so the pediatrician I was seeing at the time (I was 17, I think?) sent me to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist was a jerk and basically brushed it off, said the test was probably just an error and that I don't have enough symptoms to make a diagnosis of anything (which is actually probably true). He recommended that we wait a few months and re-test the ANA titer. So I think it was about 6 months later that they re-tested it, it was still insanely high. So he just recommended to keep an eye on it. I have yet to be back to him because of the way he treated me. I have also had not had another ANA titer since I was 18. I know what the treatments are for autoimmune diseases and quite honestly, I really don't want to be taking those medications. So I deal with the symptoms as they come and when they are not around, I enjoy every possible second that I can. Thanks for the concern. When I can finally get to a doctor I will and I will see if I can have that ANA titer ran again, but typically most docotors won't jump straight to running an ANA titer so it is going to take some convincing and I am just not up for convincing a doctor to do that right now.

As long as you have your old records, the NHS is pretty good.

Actually the doctors over here will run whatever damn test you want..... I find them much easier to get what you need as far as that goes.....

This is good to hear. I am just not entirely sure that I want to have the test ran. I still do not have an actual diagnosis, but even if they were to tell me it was some autoimmune condition, I am not sure I would take the medications anyway. I have seen what those medications have done to my family members and I really do not have any desire to be on them.
