RANT HERE thread

Thanks. I often find it hard for people to understand why I don't go running to a doctor whenever something hurts or isn't working right. I have just gotten used to it over the past 8 years and often times getting a doctor to even listen to you is worse than the pain/symptoms themselves. But life moves on no matter how you feel and I won't let the symptoms stop me from enjoying life, so I just keep pushing forward (and stock-piling ibuprofen 😉)

I've been there and the only thing I have to say is that you're your only advocate. It took me over a decade to get an official diagnosis and I was pretty much labelled crazy and given a diagnosis that was a catch-all for my general type of symptoms. I went to urgent care following a really bad episode and the doctor said to me that what I had going on was definitely not X. He suggested a new primary care doctor who I went and saw and he was determined to get me answers. I am forever grateful to him because he was able to think zebras, not horses, and sent me to all the right specialists. I haven't had an episode in nearly 15 months now ...

So I encourage you to keep exploring! No one will force you to take meds once you have a diagnosis ... But once you know what is going on you can explore alternative treatments and find something that works for your body.

Football has been bad so far. In the spirit of this awfulness, my fantasy team has decided it would be a good time to roll over dead :annoyed:

i won $1900 on a spread parlay with the cardinals, the rams and the steelers against the spread. i should have taken the cardinals and rams straight up, would have been rolling in it.

Rolled up to school for the first day of 4th year at 9am in the pouring down rain and 50 degree weather. First lecturer forgot and ran in half hour late, rescheduled for tomorrow, 2nd lecturer couldn't get the comp to work so cancelled. So glad I woke up early 🙁

And the Ravens lost last night, so I am an unhappy panda.

Not really a rant, more of an annoyance, but...

I just received an email from the letting agency saying that they want to come in and do an inventory/condition check. No big deal, except I have been so busy studying that my flat is a bit of a mess, books and crap everywhere and I don't really have the time to be cleaning right now. So now I have told them that it would be best to come Friday for this, since they won't come on the weekend and I will be back at school from 9-5 starting next week. So now it looks like I will be spending Thursday afternoon after my exam cleaning up my flat some instead of partying it up... 🙁

Thank you, Radiology, for always making me feel like an idiot. Not going well so far... 🙁

Grandma is in surgery. Should be 5 hours or so. Please keep her in your thoughts 🙁 :xf:

Sending nothing but good karma in her general direction! I'm sure she'll be fine - something needs to counteract my miserable day and I'm thinking she's perfect for the job!! 😉

My rant: Friend / coworker is currently in the hospital due to a possible viral exposure. I'm just grateful that she's feeling OK despite the treatment and is simply bored out of her mind right now. :xf::xf::xf: the tests come back with nothing but good news!!!

And now back to my day of insanity. Stupid seems to be contagious today... :annoyed:

I ordered the first three books of a series a while ago. The second and third ones came last week. Fine, I can wait a while for the first one. Then my order arrives today...and they've sent me the wrong book. :annoyed: So not only do I have to wait however long to actually get my book, I have to deal with sending it back and all. Not a happy cupcake.

:xf: for Emiloo's grandma.

My rant: I've been cleaning Cat ISO at work lately and I think I brought something home. Bear has been sneezing a lot today. I hope he doesn't have a URI and I hope Lila doesn't get sick too.

Thank y'all soooooo much for all of your thoughts. She was just wheeled to recovery and the surgery went well. Lots of recovery ahead. Healing from open heart surgery at 87 is no guarantee but I feel very relieved for now. Wish I could be there to see her. She lives in Ohio. 🙁
Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it.

Wishing your grandma a speedy recovery. I know how it feels to be far away. My grandma was admitted to the hospital right before I moved to Scotland and again about 2-3 weeks ago, it is horrible not being able to be there, but I also can not communicate with her via phone due to being out of the country and her not having a smart phone.

Drunk cleaning? Duh.

I hope she has a speedy recovery! I know it sucks to be away from family, especially when they are sick. 🙁

:xf: For your grandma, Emiloo! All good thoughts aimed towards Ohio.

Saw my friend... She's tried and feeling icky from the meds but is doing OK otherwise.

And now the kicker... I've had a delusion of seeing if I can hammer the VMCAS out in the next two weeks from scratch. It's official! I'm coo-coo!!

I hope your grandma recovers easily and quickly, Emiloo!
Maybe you can get a family member who is there to bring in a laptop and you can skype with her when she's awake? Not the same as being there, I know, but worth a try?

DVMD, I agree that drunk cleaning is totally the best option here.

Thinking of your grandma, Emiloo.

It's really small (really!) compared to everything else, but I can't stop pinning stuff on Pinterest. I still don't like it too much, but I can't stop using it. My main boards are for wedding, house deco and kids stuffs. Ugh.

You probably could. It might not be the most fun two weeks of your life, but if you had fast LOR writers...

My cat took a turn for the worse today. I am taking her in tomorrow. My heart is breaking.

Soo upset right now 🙁

About a week ago I was at the dog park and have been going there since my pup was 2 months old. Everything was fine, my pup Star, was happily running around and we were practicing voice control (she was doing perfect! coming and sitting next to me when called).

Here comes the cringe part - I see her running to a kinda scared looking dog that raises his lips and does the threaning snarl the moment she gets close. Of course, Star being a huge dum dum (the pitbull in her mix 😛 ) goes right in and does the body slam move that she is known for. What do I end up with? A dog fight where she bites the other dog and I get bitten by theirs pulling the two apart. The other owners run off from the park before I ask about their dog's vaccines or trade info.

Today I get an Animal Control notice that the other owners complained and called my dog aggresive - and they want me to pay up. I am beyond upset...yes, my dog was at fault for causing injury but so was theirs for biting me. But somehow I am the only one that comes out as the bad guy?!

Ugh, wish I was versed in NJ law so I could be more informed if I have any rights...

That's ridiculous ... you should report that their dog bit you. Did you go to the doctor to have your bite wound treated? In California all dog bites are reported by the doctor who treats them and the owners of the "offender" get fined and the dog gets quarantined.

It sounds like they had a dog that shouldn't even be at dog park to begin with.

Some dog owners are so clueless, creating a liability for everyone ... which is why I don't go to dog park 🙁

Anyway, it just doesn't seem right that they get off with no penalty. I would definitely look into your options!

Apperantly in Jersey, I am completely at fault because my dog was the one that drew blood - no matter who started the fight. The Animal Control officer wasn't even concerned when I told him I was bitten. But yes, I went to my primary and got a script for Augmentin. I am reading up on NJ legislature before I commit and take responsibility for anything. Just has put me in such a crappy mood! 🙁

And I certainly don't need any more stress with the deadline on the horizon!!

And yes, no more dog parks for me....EVER.

Dog parks would be fine if people actually trained their dogs properly, didn't bring dog/people aggressive dogs to the park, etc. Unfortunately that is beyond human capabilities. Bummer you have to deal with this though. I assume your dog is up to date so you just have to pay a fine? Is it a hefty fine?
And I'm surprised that they weren't concerned that you were bitten. I would imagine dog biting human takes priority over dog biting dog. But maybe it's just because they were already in a fight?

Yup, absolutely agree. The owner was just standing there socializing with a friend - I may have yelled at her (oops) cause she didn't even move to grab her dog. 😕

And I am still talking to animal control - I am sure I will have a fine and probably have to pay for the veterinary bill of the other dog. Not a happy camper today.

😡😡😡
Boyfriend and I bought a house on a quiet road with nothing but farm land surrounding us for miles... We just got the news today that they are putting a YMCA in the lots directly adjacent to our property!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡
WTF?!?!?!?!!?!?

How about a mile away? How about 10 lots away? How about not at all? It is a 2 lane country road.... I can't even begin to fathom the traffic. Our property value is about to drop a ton and we are extremely pissed about it. Apparently the local country club pushed for it and had it approved within a month. There was never any warning or ability to speak our minds on the issue and we are feeling very pushed aside right now. It makes me sick how much money matters in situations like this. We can't even sell for another 3 years bc of the new housebuyer credit rules. There were no plans for anything to be built when we bought, and were assured it was agricultural land and no commercial properties were allowed to be built anywhere near us. I'm fuming! We are gonna lose so much money on this house. I HATE MONEY!!!!!!!!
:boom:
ALSO on the money rant... I am supposed to "call admissions back Wednesday (tomorrow)" about my OOS/IS thing so :xf::xf: :scared:

My horse is turning into a really interesting neuro case.

Horse, if you are going to insist on having issues associated with the body system we are currently studying, I am going to be seriously upset.

Right now I am just hoping that we can maybe figure out what he has? Or something that indicates a prognosis.

TBH your dog ignored cues from another dog to leave it alone, and did you really not expect to get bitten when intervening? People get bitten by their OWN dogs intervening in dog fights, and personally I think it was luck of the draw that you got bitten by theirs.

I personally think they have a great case that YOUR dog was the one misbehaving - their dog gave clear cues to be left alone that your dog blatantly ignored - not their dogs fault. Dogs don't nessercerrily have to be "aggressive" to not want to interact - they could be feeling unwell, at a new park, or just having a bad day, or just not prepared to play with a young, rude dog.

Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but sometimes, **** happens. I dont think you CAN go to break up a dog fight without running the risk that you will get bitten, and since your dog caused the fight I don't think you should be able to fine them for that. In a different universe, it could have easily been your dog biting you, or your dog biting them. And next time your dog ignores the cues of another dog, he might not be so lucky...

That dog shouldn't have been at the dog park that day then. I do feel like it is the responsibility of a dog's owner to notice when a dog seems uncomfortable at the dog park and remove him/her from the situation as quickly as possible. You can't blame either one of the dogs here, because ffs they're dogs, and you can't expect an owner to be able to "teach" her dog to read other dogs' social cues either. WBV does need to train a better recall under distraction before taking his/her dog back to the dog park, though - his/her own vigilance should be his/her substitute for the dog's social ineptness. But really, the other dog's owner should have noticed that the dog was uncomfortable/fearful and left the dog park as soon as they noticed that.

I hate to open up this can of worms here, but honestly pit bulls don't belong at dog parks. I don't believe they're terrible monster dogs or anything the media says and blah blah, I like them and think they can be excellent human-safe dogs. But rather like I don't feel like you can train a herding dog out of its herding instinct, I don't think you can keep a pit bull that's inclined to be dog aggressive from being dog aggressive.

I feel like the blame is on the other dog's owner mostly, if the dog was fearful and didn't want to be there, don't make the dog be there.

But their dog might not have been uncomfortable except with the WBV's dog. I think we don't have enough info without having been there.

WBV, how did they make a complaint against you if they left before you could talk to them? Did they know who you were? Or did Animal Control track you down somehow?

I both agree and disagree. If my dog was having a bad day at the dog park, yes I would take them home. However, if my dog is usually fine at the dog park and there is just one impolite young dog being inadequately controlled, I would be annoyed. FWIW I think owners CAN and SHOULD be assisting in teaching their dogs social cues, because its important, especially if you are going to be taking your dog off leash in dog parks. Yes the other dog was clearly uncomfortable but I think its hard to judge whether or not it should have been removed - just because it told one dog to "get lost" doesn't, to me, mean it should be the end of play time. However, if a young dog thinks an ok response to a lifted lip and growling is to body slam the other dog, that younger dog needs to be on a leash or have its owner close by to help it interpret the behaviour, because clearly its current ability to interpret social cues is inadequate.

I think in this situation both owners need to be more mindful of their dogs social behaviour and needs, but I disagree that the other dog shouldnt have been there, and I do think owners should DEFINATELY be taking an active role in teaching social behaviour to their pets.

Agreed. You can't blame either of the dogs, but I think both owners are at fault to a degree here. When you have a bunch of dogs running around, sh** WILL happen sometimes and it's not really the dogs' fault. It's really up to the dog owners to take all necessary precautions to try and avoid these situations. I dunno why animal control wasn't interested in getting a bite report for the OP's bite wounds though. Provoked or not, a dog bite on a person should be reportable in most jurisdictions (if not all) due to rabies risks.

I loooove pitties, but I would be terrified of bringing one to a dog park, even if I know the dog is great with people AND other dogs of all sizes. In the world we live in, the slightest mishap with a pit bull can be turned into a huge debacle, and it's just really unfair to the dog. I would not want to expose a perfectly nice pitty to a random group of people who may have agendas against pits. If I didn't trust the pit to be complacent even when provoked by another naughty dog (and by that, I mean little snaps and rowdiness, not so much full on attacks), I don't think I'd even consider it. I'd limit puppy play time only with other dog owners whom I trusted, and on private property only. Or, my dog would have to be trained to be okay to have fun wearing a muzzle. For that, I guess, I wouldn't be very comfortable either unless the other owners knew why I was muzzling my dog. In a close-knit dog park, I can see it working.
