i'm so used to dealing with dog/cat/horse/cow temperature normals in school, that when i first saw that, i was like OMG you're seriously hypothermic!!!glad you are neither febrile nor hypothermic haha (because my next thought was quick emergency resuscitation! calculate shock dose of fluids!) feel better! 🙂
The other night I got home from class around 10pm and had been up since 4:30 that morning for work. I had to eat a bite of something before going to bed so I made some cereal, was too lazy to pull out a chair to sit at the table so I just sat on the kitchen floor. I noticed my socks didn't match and my first thought was "they're from different litters"

My rant - yesterday morning I had this pressure/cramp sensation in my upper right abdomen. It lasted all day and I figured it was just a food or gas cramp and would go away. Last night I woke myself up several times because it hurt when I would roll onto that side. This morning the pain is still there and it's worse when I take a deep breath. I had my gallbladder removed 7 years ago and the pain is in the vicinity of my surgical clips so that makes me a little nervous. Otherwise I feel completely fine and haven't had any other symptoms ... I'm not really sure what to do, if anything

Wait. Isn't 98.1 normal for people? So 98.4 isn't a temp? Is that what you're saying? I'm confused.

I thought 98.6 was normal temperature for people... at least I am pretty certain that it is.

Oh my stars. I'm a nerd. This is getting serious.

It is!
There is a great new invention called "Google" which helps with matters such as this.
98.6 is considered "normal" but normal temperatures fluctuate based on the individual and other factors such as the time of day. So if you're in the 98 range, you're probably fine.

I had completely forgotten about that. What a missed opportunity.

Argh! That's ridiculously frustrating. I'm currently working in a group for one of my courses, we all figured out that the only time we can meet is 9am Thursday, and one of them wrote back, "I don't do well with mornings, but if that's the only time we can meet..." Yes, it is. And you will meet us there because our grade partially depends on you. 😡 So I feel you on the group work/partner front...

My rant: Oh vet school applications, why do you have to be so stressful? I am hoping to apply next year to two or three schools: LSU, KSU and MN. MN requires Chem to be a pre-requisite of Microbiology. I sent the community college syllabus and course description of Microbio to all three schools because it's only course offered out of one CC, one state school and one UC that offers Microbio at an introductory level requiring Chemistry as a pre-req. LSU wrote back saying that of course it is preferred that courses are taken at an upper level university, but it's not necessarily a disadvantage if they're taken at a CC. I am not sure how to interpret this. 😛 Being able to take it at the CC level would be great because then I could do it next summer and that would allow me to take an additional elective or finish a full year series of orgo or anatomy/physiology in the event I don't get in/accepted. But if I didn't get accepted, I'd probably re-take it at an upper div level anyway... but then that would mean I don't get to apply to MN which is one of the schools I'm really interested in. Oh, decisions, decisions.
Maybe I should wait to hear back from all three schools as well as the professor from this summer's course before making one.Abney, did you notice that both our birthday notices went in the rant thread?!
Happy Birthday!!!!!

Happy Birthday!!!!!

I was just about to mention that it seems odd to be wishing someone a Happy Birthday in the rant thread. Advertisement - Members don't see this ad
We're...."special"....
And thanks guys! I took it off since the next four years of my life week be dictated by the vet school mafia.

I never thought I'd have so much trouble finding a large animal vet in Utah! If I were staying up in Logan it would be a breeze but since I'm moving to Salt Lake after graduation it's a bit harder... I'm already planning on applying at one clinic, but they do mostly horses and I'd like to include more cattle or small ruminants (for diversity, not because I actually like them). Just funny, I never though I'd be in this position lol
MrsSOV was forced to take a leave of absence because she missed first 3 weeks of school due to hospitalization, although she wanted to (at least try to) come back.
Now she is being kicked out of her graduate housing and I have to scramble to move her stuff out.
Oh, and they cancel her health insurance as well. Nice... Get sick, lose insurance. Makes a lot of sense.
This year just gets more and more wonderful.

Didn't know it was her birthday.. but more importantly, why is this a rant?

Lady, you mentioned suicide in a lounge thread too.
Uncool.
If you are having trouble, talk to someone. Anyone. We are all here, I'm sure there are people around you that also care. Maybe time to use some of your school's resources and see a counselor or therapist?
All this immune crap has been so terrible for you - I really wish you could get it sorted out. It's not your fault you haven't - you have done all the correct things - but I think finding the correct doctor would finally get you somewhere with that.
I don't know. I just want to know that you aren't going to do anything to yourself, because you CAN and WILL get better - you just have to make it through.
Seriously. Big hugs. Hang in there.
Lol it just came up in here. I love my birfday!

I am so sorry... I did not mean to scare you at all.... I am not having any thoughts like that... I was about a month back but it was due to side effects from a medication and that has mostly passed now...
Sorry, if I worried you, but definitely not planning nor thinking of harming myself or doing anything drastic.
Scratch the last post. There's so much overlap between CC courses that I don't know how I'd finish in my three year goal, let alone a two year goal. A part of me is tempted to spring for a second degree.
Here's to hoping the state university I e-mailed to writes back with an approval of my two year plan. I'd do Chem, Physics and possibly Microbio here and would transfer over and finish out Organic Chem, Biochem, the Biology series, Genetics and a variety of electives in two years. I don't care if I have a second degree or simply a transcript stating I completed the pre-requisites and I don't care that post-bacc and all non-traditional students pay a slightly higher tuition fee. At this point I'm honestly willing to do two years (or three years, if I take a year off to work and save) that way so that my schedule actually lines up. 😡
