RANT HERE thread

I absolutely cannot STAND people who think it is their personal duty to repeatedly single me out for how "shy" I am and how "quiet" I'm being.

"HEY MOMMAFOX, YOU'RE SO QUIET. WHAT'S UP? WHAT YA DOIN? WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?"

I'm thinking you should leave me alone and let me contribute to the conversation when I have something useful to add. This one person in particular goes out of his way to force me to tak throughout dinner. I don't understand it and dinner is always very uncomfortable for me because I have to force myself to be social or I will be called out and embarrassed. I think some extroverts really have no idea that most introverts, myself included, are very content with just observing and listening as opposed to always flapping their jaw off about something. UGH. Social interaction can be incredibly draining for me if I have to force it.

👍 times a million! And they always think you are being antisocial if you aren't talking!

Yes! Not all "extroverts" I know are like this. One of my best friends is an extrovert but she understands that I don't want to talk to everyone like she does. Once she accepted the fact that I'm content to be quiet for hours on end and that I am NOT mad at her, it was awesome.

Once I'm comfortable around people I don't shut up sometimes. But sometimes all I want it to just be quiet. 🙁

My ex best friend(we're still friends, just not besties anymore) is an extrovert. We are soooo different from each other. Extroverts gain energy by being around other people, and introverts gain energy by being alone/quiet. It was very interesting living together.

Shooting today at the community college where I work. 2 victims with conditions still unknown (1 helicoptered out). Just horrific. I can't begin to understand WTF makes people do things like this. I feel numb.

Phillie, that is so crazy. I think the world has gotten out of hand and we have let too many crazies slip by. Hope the ship rights and floats as it's supposed to soon.

Thanks. I just don't inderstand how someone could want to do harm to other people. It makes me furious and sad at the same time. Thankfully we're like a tight-knit family and police response was amazing, but this is going to shake up the place for a good while. I don't think you ever forget something like this.

People really suck sometimes. 👎

And DVMD, hope things get better for you soon. 🙁

Really been struggling the last couple of months...the anniversary of my dads death was in march and it has been 7 long years. My mother to this day still does not know that I read the autopsy report and really know how he passed. He was early 40's had an enlarged heart an was a drug/alcohol abuser. Last memory of my dad was my mother kicking him out and telling him to either get sober or give her a divorce and never see his girls again. Two days later he passed away at a hotel(from an enlarged heart, drugs and alcohol in his system). After 7 years you think I would be over it but I now have more hate/hurt/I don't even know the feeling towards him. I have seen a psychiatrist numerous times but am at a loss of how to get over these feelings...

I admit I'm guilty of pointing out how quiet people are sometimes. I totally don't do it to be an *******, I'm more saying that I'm aware you're here, I know I don't shut up and please feel free to interrupt me or even just say whatever whenever and that I don't mean to steamroller over the conversations. I'm extrovert to the extreme. (I'm sure that's a shocker...)

I can't speak for all introverts of course but I am so totally okay with people steamrolling a conversation sometimes. I feel worse when I am forced to conversate vs when I feel like I can't get a word in edgewise lol. The whole invrovert vs. Extrovert thing facinates me. I just read my original post and I sound like a jerk because I immplied that every extrovert flaps their jaw off. Haha. I was just frustrated. Its just funny how hard it is to see through the perspective of a person at the opposite side of the spectrum. I prefer hanging out with extroverts most of the time, I feel like it balances out. Whenever I work with the introvert technician we barely talk to each other, unless its about krav maga or harry potter. Haha. And the funny thing is is that we are totally content with that.

I'm interning at a zoo right now. Most of the zookeepers are really nice and helpful.

There is one woman, though, who is incredibly condescending, at least towards me. It's mostly tone, like when she answers one of my questions she's thinking, "God, what an idiot." Today I asked her if there should be dead mice outside of the traps in the feed room. Instead of allowing me to finish my statement, she just said, "Well, pick it up." I had concerns about whether poisons were being used in inappropriate places and her advice to me was to "Pick it up."

Well, no ****, but that doesn't address the potential problem of accidental poisoning. Plus, I don't particularly want to be handling poisoned mice.

There were two other condescending comments today as well. I think that I'll just stop asking her questions if she can't drop the attitude. Thankfully, I don't usually have to work with her. 🙂

Maybe she's trying to be funny? I don't know. It never sounds playful to me.

I'm definitely an introvert, and I don't mind at all when people steamroll conversations. Some of my friends are really extroverted, and a few are also more introverted, but I would say that I had an easier time making friends with more extroverted people. It definitely takes me a while to warm up to people and I'm much more talkative around people I know. I can pretend to be outgoing when I'm shadowing or at work with owners or customers, but its not the way I naturally am. I just have a hard time talking when I'm in groups of people, and I don't feel like I have anything solid to contribute.

What bothers me is when people are like you have to talk now and do it repeatedly. For example, my friend and I had to go to a dinner for class where we were supposed to sit and talk about ways to make our campus greener. Several times throughout the dinner we had people (mainly this one girl who was in our group in class and liked to try to boss us around 🙄) point blank say "You guys are quiet, say something now" when I really didn't have anything to say that was not being said, and I didn't feel like arguing with them when I disagreed with them. It definitely made the whole thing uncomfortable for both of us. I don't mind at all though when people ask me questions or anything like that or point out in passing that I'm being quiet.

I'm an introvert too!

I personally hate being called "shy." There's an implication of being fearful of something in that word and I'm not a fearful person so it's very insulting.

I find it very difficult to make meaningful comments during conversations that I'm not interested in, which happens very frequently. Seriously, I can talk non-stop about "animal things," but try to include me in a topic about the latest celebrity gossip or some similarly stupid topic, not one word.

Oh DVMD🙁...

I have really bad eczema around my eyes lately. It is really itchy and red this morning. Some days are better than others. I usually put A+D ointment on it, which helps a bit and moistens the dry skin. My roommate suggested olive oil, so I might give that a try. Anyone have any at home remedies for really dry itchy skin? Or a certain product you really liked?

Elta creme moisturizer works pretty good. I used to have bad eczema problems, mostly on my hands; it was really painful and itchy and my skin would get so dry it would crack and bleed. I had good results with that moisturizer and then a bit of aquaphor over that. I would put the stuff on liberally at night and wear cotton gloves when sleeping (Maybe you could use an eye mask or something?). The two together helped a lot, though at it's worst I also had a prescription ointment I put in with the mix.

I had really bad eczema on my upper lip once when I was a kid. I have the horrible habit of licking my lips when they get dry, which only makes them incredibly chapped. 🙄 Someone recommended Eucerin cream. It's really thick heavy white stuff, so I couldn't put it on during the day, but at night I would just coat my lips with the stuff and by morning it would feel much better!

Also, are you sure it's eczema? About a week ago my mom's eyelids started getting really red and dry and it turned out to be a virus. She had to get a prescription for a special ointment, but it cleared up really fast after that.

Cortisone 10 Plus cream!!!! I have exactly the same thing and this works wonders. And is much cheaper than prescription creams. 😉 It may burn the first time, but give it an hour and apply again and it feels sooooo much better.

I like the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. It also stings a little the first time or too.

But the cortisone 10plus for eczema works for the bf and his facial dryness.

thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it is eczema, my mom has the same thing and the doctor told her it was eczema. I have some Aveno HC cream, I will try that. I was just a little scared to used it because my skin is so thin there and my eyes are very sensitive. I hope it will go away when the weather gets warmer.

I don't have eczema, but in the past I have used the following for lots of different skin issues (dryiness, itchiness, etc.):

Put some olive oil (1-2 cups) in a jar or other glass container. Add a splash of walnut, avocado, or other "good for your skin" oil. Then, add the contents of several Vitamin E and Vitamin D gel caps (I just puncture the end with a pin and squeeze the oil in). Shake it up, store it in the fridge, and rub some into your skin once or twice a day.

I have also used beeswax and comfrey salve to great effect. It's often sold as a treatment for babies (for diaper rash), but it works for pretty much any minor skin complaint. I mean, if it's good for baby skin it probably at least won't hurt your eyes, and it's so non-toxic it's edible.

Humidify, humidify, humidify. I like the cool air/misty ones. I run it overnight on high and always feel so much better in the morning.

I have been having the hardest time getting over the guy I was in a complicated LDR with for two years. Nothing happened, there was just no time visible we could forseeably be together in the next 5 years, and I decided it was time to move on. We wanted to stay friends though. But I miss him every single freaking day, multiple times a day. So I decided it was time to cut the cord and distance myself and stop trying to be friends the same as we were minus the relationship part. Yesterday, I was all "I'm so done, not going to contact him, done, over it, final."

Then he just got interviewed about his work on a radio show and who was the first one to post congratulatory messages on his facebook? :smack:

I tripped and fell while I was walking around Glasgow last week (didn't actually trip over anything other than my own feet) and the pain in my knee has gotten progressively worse every day since. It hurts to do pretty much anything, but I've had to be on my feet all day for the past 3 days for work which didn't help. I'm pretty sure I re-tore my ACL because it hurts just like it did the last time. I just wish I would stop getting injured doing such generic things. (8 years ago, I was jogging and fell (also out of nowhere) and shattered my tibial plateau, tore my meniscus, and tore my ACL. It took 3 surgeries to get everything fixed. Now the same knee hurts again from walking and falling. It's sooo frustrating.)

$300 later and I still have no idea what caused my Lab mix to go lateral in the back yard with white gums.

Ugh. My roomate called me about an hour after I left this morning and said my dog was sick and he was worried. She wouldn't get up after having diarrhea in the back yard and he had to carry her inside...where she had diarrhea alll over the place. White gums, unresponsive. Rushed her to the vet. Pulled blood and fecal without any response from her...she wouldn't even stand up and I had to hold her up while the other tech pulled from the jug. Bloodwork fine (ALT ever so slightly elevated), pancreatitis screen negative. She got a whole lactated ringer and is at home and fine now. I just....ugh. I have no idea what happened. She had a fecal full of spirochaetes but other than that I'm kind of at a loss.

The only thing I can think of is that she got a new kind of dental chew yesterday, and a rawhide strip this am and maybe her body just couldn't handle it. I make sure to buy things made in US but I won't be buying anything like that anymore.....scared the crap out of me.

It is so much different when its your own babe who is sick. =( I'm going to give her another bag tonight but she seriously seems just fine now after all that drama...I just...idk.

YES, always buy rawhide chews made in the US. There have been many incidences lately with rawhide out of states. 🙁

Hope it doesn't reoccur and she feels much better! That is scary!

Of course when you said spirochaetes, first thing that came to my mind was Lyme disease and Lepto. :xf: It's not one of those and just from the rawhide.

I would be more worried about the collapsing part personally. I might even recommend getting an abdominal ultrasound. Depends on age, etc.

Quoted you because Lyme is not found in feces and neither is lepto to my knowledge. A certain amount of spirochetes are normal in feces.

She is 3 1/2. She's utd on lyme and lepto VX. She is fine now, if not a little more clingy and cuddly than normal.

tbh... without giving medical advice... it sounds like anaphylaxsis to me. could be to any kind of insect bite and can present without swelling. See it all the time at my work - ive come to realise that a bee sting can present as anything 😛

But seriously, collapse, white mm's, diarrhoea, responsive to fluid therapy and fine later on almost have me fully convinced on the other side of the planet. I see so many present like this. Obviously there is no way to confirm it but i would ask your vet about it and then look at getting her an epi - pen - reactions tend to get worse.
