One of the vets I work with has been giving away her guinea pigs to some of us assistants because she had too many. The one assistant brought the one she adopted in today because she had labored breathing and wasn't using her back legs. She also was covered in lice that she picked up somewhere. We did an xray to check if anything was broken and turns out she's pregnant with two to three piggies. She had been housed with a male because the vet had planed to breed her but no one thought anything was successful since she never really ballooned out like piggies do. Poor thing passed away earlier this afternoon most likely due to pregnancy toxemia. We did a c-section to try to save the baby pigs but it was still too early in development for them. 🙁

After picking up our rental truck last night I am FREAKING our that all our stuff will not fit. Stayed up super late packing and then got about a half hour of sleep before I said F it and got up to finish. My stomach is in knots and I feel like I have to throw up constantly, I'm so stressed about this move. Friends will be here in 2 hours. No idea how I'm making it through today 🙁 🙁

Breathe, it will be fine. I suggest taking those 2 hours that you have until friends arrive to relax. If you can't relax for both of those hours, then relax for an hour. Listen to music while loading the truck or something. Get yourself a warm drink to help calm down your stomach but relaxing and realizing that everything will be just fine is going to help the most.

I was freaked out about everything not fitting in my tiny car. Remember there is almost always dead space that can be filled with loose stuff. That's what saved me cramming random crap in tiny spaces.
 
Saw my life and SOs life flashed before my eyes yesterday...

So we went fishing with 3 of his buddies... We were wading through a river... It was all fun and games ( I caught a 2 foot pike- biggest catch of the day) until we had to pass a part with a current/ deep water.. I handed babe my pole so I could swim across.. Leaving babe with 2 poles in his hands and a small soft sided cooler with beer on his back ( not smart move on my part) ... I made it across, turn around and see him struggling.. So I swim back out, grab a rod and try to swim back but the current had swept me too far.. I thought we both were gonna drown. Babe looked like he wasnt gonna make it.. We let the river take us down to the next shore and we finally made it to a part that we could touch..I was exhausted and about to have a panic attack. I have never been so scared in my life.. I was more worried about him than I was myself. Worst feeling ever. Then we both stayed up close to shore until we made it back to the truck.

Moral of the story- dont go fishing in the Black River without life jackets or a boat/ canoe.. Don't hand off your fishing rod leaving someone with two rods and a cooler.. Don't try to swim in fast moving water , especially if you can't touch the bottom.

I'm so happy to be alive. I'm not going fishing for a while.
 
day 3 of a migraine.. started friday, wasted my whole day yesterday, i got no sleep last night - every time i tried to doze off i would move in my sleep and create more stabbing pain. roomie went out first thing and got me some ginger ale, a frozen eye mask, and some advil PM since i had taken the last of mine friday night. feeling better after 2 hour nap, and kinda loopy from it still being on board.

Yikes... That sounds terrifying! Drowning is one of my worst fears...

😱 Glad you're both ok!!!

I had a near drowning experience in Cabo a few years back. I was probably overconfident with the undertow as I've worked as a lifeguard for a number of years. But don't let it keep you from doing what you enjoy! The wariness is healthy.
 
Saw ny childhood friend of 14 years today. I was getting sweet tea at McDonald's. She works there. And is pregnant again. She was just arrested about 4 months ago for child neglect. She doesnt know that I know. She is a terrible mother, and it makes me a bit sad. What went wrong? 🙁
 
trying to make puzzle pieces for visiting NCSU and UGA tues/wed fall into place so that i have a good idea of what the programs are about for 4th years at SGU. bah! its proving a lot harder to get in touch with administrators than i thought! i just want a tour and more than anything, a run down of the clinical year program (particularly from NCSU because they didnt make it grenada in the spring)

Whoever really knows?

I have one childhood friend who takes advantage of her grandmother by living, rent-free, in her home and using her money to pay for college (nine years worth with no degree). She's going on 28 this year and now her 21 year old brother is following her example since he was thrown out of the military and has no education or work experience to fall back on. I'm actually quite happy she doesn't have any children because her grandmother doesn't need one more dependent.

It's all very sad.

Seeing friends taking turns for the worse is really depressing. 🙁

A lot of my friends from just a year or two ago that I've had for years started to just ruin themselves. Like one of them went to court last month for possession and illegally carrying a concealed weapon. They had their parents foot a lawyer, and it makes me furious because I know he's still doing all that stuff.

And a friend of mine I've had since 7th Grade is making equally terrible decisions and lives with her coworker who deals in such shenanigans. Just because they haven't caught her yet doesn't make it okay.

I hate watching people I used to be close with falling to the wayside. So I understand. ^^

Oh no! Where did you guys go?

My rant: Just so incredibly stressed about moving and packing and trying to rent out my place. Finally found a moving company but perspective renters aren't sure if they want to rent it furnished or unfurnished. I need to let the moving company know. Packing also sucks. I am not sure if we are packing it properly and our stuff is going to arrive in shambles.
 
My jeep is back up for sale. The guy blew the transmission. I really wish I had the money. 🙁
 
both NCSU and UGA are giving me the run around! so frustrating! all i want is an hour of someone's time to go over the 4th year program. why is that so much to ask?! at least UGA arranged for a tour, NCSU wont even get back to me about that!!
 
You don't ever want to know what death certificate data look like imported into Excel. 🙁

I've spent the last two hours cleaning up just names and zip codes for only one year's worth of asthma mortalities (which is less than 100 deaths). I have two more years to go.

The street addresses are going to be a pain. They got shoved into a column with GPS coordinates - with no spaces. I'm going to have to Google Map every single damn one of them. 😡
 
Came back from my summer research to find I no longer have a clinic job, they hired two new girls for full time two days ago, despite knowing I was coming back and having been assured before I left that I'd still have a job. I was expecting fewer hours, but three other part time people were leaving this month so I thought I'd at least still get something. Nope.

It's not the end of the world but it still really sucks. The kennel manager is pissed though, she said she'd been waiting all summer for me to get back so we could power house it like we always did together and get everything deep cleaned in the short end of summer lull. The girl that does the scheduling and hiring has never liked me, I'm not convinced she didn't do it on purpose.
 
Took my cat to the back to the vet for chronic ear issues. This vet thinks what the other vet diagnosed as a cat bite abscess is actually a mass. 🙁 Because we are broke, my husband is already talking euthanasia. I'm trying to finish my necropsy report that is due in 1.5 hrs and trying not to cry.

They reposted the animal attendant position at a privately run shelter that I interviewed for.

I volunteered in 3 hospitals, 2 shelters, 2 rescue groups and abroad... and nobody who works with animals wants to hire me.

I can't help but beat myself up. What the frig was I supposed to do while the interviewer spoke non-stop for an hour? Maybe it's because I tried to show interest in him instead of petting the cats. I donno.

What do I do in a situation like that?

This is the second time I was brushed over, probably for being "too quiet". How am I supposed to prove them wrong if they don't let me talk?!?!

I can repeat the crap people have told me before, "Try to be more outgoing." Yuck.

Honestly, other than trying to interject and redirect the conversation toward you and the qualities you could bring to the practice, there's not much you can do when someone dominates the conversation completely. Maybe that gives some insight into what the working conditions are like? If they reposted the job, does that mean someone left right away or that no one wants to accept their offer?

.. also, totally feel you on people not hiring you for animal related jobs despite having lots of experience. Story of my undergrad life.

Came home from a work meeting to some random girl parked at my house, and SO standing in the driveway with his hands on his head, looking concerned. What the neck? She was texting and driving hit our garbage can and mail box. Not sure what happened but I think the mailbox is what hit SO's car and messed up the side. Huge dent and paint missing. My roommate built the mailbox like a brick s### house, thankfully. Teenagers have a habit of driving down our road and hitting mailboxes with baseball bats for some reason, hence why he cemented it into the ground and bought a steal box. The side of her car and passenger door is pretty wrecked. Front and rear window broken, scraped dent from front to rear, door won't shut properly, mirror ripped off, A-pillar screwed up and windshield buckled. Our mailbox has a little tiny dent lol.

She was really upset and I did feel a bit bad for her. Hopefully she learned her lesson because our neighbor was outside when it happened, but thankfully not with his kid. She likes to play in the yard right next to where SO's car was parked.


But yeah, my roommate is very proud of his mailbox.

She got a careless driving ticket and 4 pts on her license. Thankfully her and SO both have the same insurance so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And she has the same first name as me and goes by the same nickname, spelled the same unusual way and everything. Weird.
 
Today is the first day we've been able to use the garage in the new house and I'm not convinced it's physically possible to get my car into its spot. "Luckily," I'm moving to BR this weekend, so hopefully the guy in charge of the subdivision won't yell at us for my car being in the driveway.
 
Decided to go home to PA for two nights for one last visit before school and my 12 month residency started. Woke up to no water this morning and the water company has no idea why. Should have stayed in Ohio.... I want a shower 🙁

And now our power is out. Had to rush to the racetrack because my dad forgot his colors ("silks" for you thoroughbred peeps). Tree down blocking my road. Streets are flooded. I hydroplaned across a red light :slap: Now I'm babysitting our horses because of the thunder storm. Geez. Why did I come home again?

Thanks for talking me off that ledge guys... seriously. I was a mess. We did manage to fit almost everything in the truck (crappy Ikea bookcases didn't fit) and made it safely to Ithaca. Husband and I had to unpack the truck by ourselves which was an awful idea but we did it and returned the truck on time. The new apartment is great besides the fact that nothing is unpacked. Hubs is all about taking our time to unpack (?!??!) and I just want it all done NOW. That coupled with trying to buy a car for the first time ever is still leaving me super stressed. We're going to look at a few more cars tomorrow so hopefully we can just pick something and get it over with. Car buying is NOT fun. 🙁
 
At some point today my dog most likely chewed up a disposable razor. My dad had off today but he's not always the most intuitive when it comes to animals and probably left the basement door open. Since Geordie most likely lived in the streets of Philly for some time, he's great at attempting to sneak snuff from trash, out of the streets, etc. We crate both dogs when we're not home but since my dad had off today, he was probably working on stuff and just left the door open and the dogs out. Not sure when it happened, but found a bunch of pieces on the floor of the bathroom when I went to take a shower. They were pretty big pieces and luckily, the actual blade was still in the trashcan, so I think we're in the clear in regards to a FB. But of course I'm leaving for vacation on Friday and I'm having other vet students watch my critters, and I really, really don't want to have to leave a note telling them to monitor for an obstruction...
 
For some stupid unknown reason I convinced myself that we had three days off from classes for Canadian Thanksgiving in October. Just checked the AVC schedule and realized we only get one day off. I don't know what I was thinking.

I was counting on being able to fly home that weekend to visit and attend homecoming at my undergrad. Now I'll have to go from end of August to the end of December without seeing my family or my boyfriend at all. That is so unbelievably depressing. :cry:

Yep :\ Although my SO comes up for the Thanksgiving weekend - don't know if that's do-able for yours?

My rant - I waited to start my name change process because my sister said she was going to get me the software stuff as our gift. She never did so I had to scramble and now there's no way it can be done before I go back to school (being in Canada really complicates things - I don't want to get stuck with my passport being late or only half of my stuff changed). I know my SO is going to be frustrated (and I am too, just not as much as him) and I feel bad since I should have just bought the darn thing right after our wedding. Sigh.
 
Well, at least the vet school curse is easing me in slowly. Woke up to blood all over my room because my cat degloved the tip of his tail. I can't figure out how he did it. I assume in a door jam, but I can't find any extra skin/blood anywhere.

Oh my goodness, phantom injury here, too! One of my ferrets is missing a pizza slice's worth of her ear. She's the shyest and spends most of her time in the cage and tubes, so I didn't see her until at least a day or two afterward... but I have no idea how she hurt herself, or where that chunk of ear went (and all the associated blood that comes with ear injuries). 😕
