I know this seems like a petty rant… but too bad..

I looked at the book 101 adorable dog breeds in the book store.

Italian Greyhounds were NOT listed.
Wut?

I don't mind if they aren't in a random book, but one about "adorable" dogs.
No rational person can make that conclusion.

And it isn't like they aren't popular enough (they are #66 in registrations).

I am not going to point out specific not-adorable breeds included… but don't by the book..
 
Went and picked up the last of my stuff from the office. I was hoping that we could end things amicably. Instead they ignored that I was there and basically had already moved all my stuff out. So they've known for longer than I did that I would not have ANY hope of employment there (even though it was communicated to me that I would depending on restrictions).

Good riddance then. Sad the majority of adults still act like petulant children, especially in work environments.
 
a girl in the class below me had to euthanize her 15yo cat today with suspected ocular/renal lymphoma (CKD kitty). her mother passed away suddenly about a month ago and i just feel so awful for her.

lots of deaths happening here (or so it seems) - 3 mothers, a grandfather, and a best friend with terminal cancer given 4-6w to live. ugh 🙁
 
Well, I was gonna rant about snow and cold but there are people on here with actual problems. Sorry to everyone experiencing real hardships! Me and my petty rant are leaving now...
 
Not really a rant, but this was probably the most appropriate place to post this. My parents put down our 14 year old family dog today. We've had her since I was 10. It's been about a month in a making, but still sad. She has having severe ataxia and even though she didn't seem in pain her quality of life just wasn't at a place we could prolong her life any more. She'll definitely be missed.
 
Thought I was possibly going to the Galapagos this summer for a volunteer trip and was hoping to be able to book a flight way back in the end of December and save money. Apparently things are changing in regards to volunteer requirements for Ecuador, so I don't know for sure if I'm going and if I am, no idea on dates. Flights are now $1300-1500+. Not sure I can afford it if it gets to be much more which is a huge bummer.

And I realize it's not really anyone's fault if this is a recent change in country policies, but still sucks.
 
My right eye has been bothering me since the beginning of the month. Some days it's fine, but other days, like today, I cannot even put my contacts in. The eye doctor didn't see anything wrong with it, but I'm pretty sure I have a dry eye problem. My vision in that eye is somewhat blurry, and eye drops are making it burn. I really wish I had 20/20 vision.

I have been having the same problem!!! In both eyes really, but the right eye is worse. Weeeiirrdd.

Aw thanks Abney. I feel like I should be studying more, but I can't work up the motivation. And then I'm pissed at myself because I should study more. Sigh.

My rants are insignificant, but I have a cold and my stuffy nose is bothering me. I have so much homework today, on my day off, that I can't even bring myself to begin. And starting next week my clinic will be shortstaffed more than we are now... Which is already quite a bit but now it will be overwhelming... Gah.

The last couple of days someone has brought tuna to class to eat during the lecture. I have a very low tolerance for the smell of seafood for some reason. I just can not stand it, so the smell of tuna is super overpowering to me.

Stupid midwest ice storm has all of our roads covered in ice! I realllllly need to go to school to spend some time in the anatomy lab or my exam on monday is not going to go well!!! grrrrr. hurry up ice, MELLLLT!!!!

Even yesterday afternoon when it was just starting I slid into a curb trying to park and then missed my street because I just couldn't stop. Hoping it will clear up by this afternoon.

Thankfully this is the only real yuck weather we've had so far other than a few inches of snow. Just tough to get to school at the moment and a lot of us need to.

I had an incident with someone in our class last year over this. Right before our 1pm class, she brought in a container that had fish and broccoli that she had just warmed up. First of all, that combo is disgustingly smelly, and second of all, we just had an hour lunch break! Why now are you eating? Everyone was making faces and a few people were covering their nose because it was so bad. So I said, " that is foul, you need to take that outside and eat it." She got angry, got up and yelled back at me "-actually it's fish, not fowl" so then I yelled out "no, f-o-u-l.... Foul. Now go outside, please!"

It was hilarious. But she hasn't done it again.

My surgery group had a Duck Toller for a neuter. However, since it was a shelter do, no one would let me put Duck Toller and they just kept putting golden mix. Not the same, but they figured it would help him get adopted. Not sure if it worked or not.

I mean, I get being upset about bringing a smelly combo in the classroom (I try not to do that) but I'm not really sure getting annoyed with someone for eating during lunch is fair. I've been doing it more frequently because I've been using my lunch break to go to the gym. It's less crowded during that time and it allows me to get home at a decent hour to feed my dog. I've also scheduled meetings during that time. Sometimes it's the only bit of free time you have to get other things done.

Not sure if you were actually annoyed by her trying to eat lunch in class, but just pointing out that people have reasons.

I can understand the annoyance with people doing inappropriate smelly things during a class, like painting their nails or re-administering their perfumes, but heckling someone over the smell of their food seems really rude, especially around lunch time - even if it's not during the mandated lunch period. Politely taking her aside and telling her that the smell was really distracting during class seems way more appropriate and far less confrontational.

I'm in a college with a large population of international students from Asian and African countries who frequently bring very aromatic home-cooked foods to class. I'm not going to begrudge their choice of foods or publically embarrass them because of my personal opinions about what does and does not smell "good."
 
Ten year old yellow lab finally succumbed to hypothyroidism back home. Sucks being far away. The dog went from good health to blind and paralyzed in two weeks. Euthanized this morning because she quit drinking water and was dying from dehydration.

I think you misunderstood me. I have also had other types of dogs try to bite me. This was the first one that really got me. My statement was meant to be read as face value. There is nothing between the lines there. I'm not making some sort of judgement on the breed yadda yadda. Just bored and adding an innocent comment about an experience I had.

i need a pep talk. this is my first time applying to vet school and i just had an interview, and i want to say it went freaking awesome but i dont want to jinx myself. i want this so bad im terrified to want it too much, in case it doesnt happen. this is so hard. i didnt realize putting your dreams on the line would be this tough 🙁

I understand that people have the right to eat, several people in our class eat at 11 (early) and some will bring food back from fast food and eat around 1. My thing is, our first year classroom is small and tight, and hot with everyone in it. Eating a snack or other no-smelly food is acceptable, but to bring something that is very smelly, and sit right in the middle of the classroom where no one can escape it is rude. I understand that people have the right to eat anything they want for lunch, but eat it during the scheduled lunch period when it is something that might be offensive in smell (fish, curry, etc) when everyone else's food is also smelling up the joint. That really is common courtesy (which this classmate is lacking in - and not just because of this incident).

Ok, so this wasn't the first time this classmate had done this, and she had been asked before to not bring that into the classroom - that obviously didn't work.

Also - I agree. It wasn't the best way to handle the situation. I would probably handle it differently today. I don't get along with this classmate very well, and that definitely influenced the handling of the situation.

I love food - and I think most of it smells good. This was overly fishy, to the point some of us wondered if it had gone bad. Curries and other ethnic foods are delicious, and while strong, aren't normally offensive. This was bordering on nasal assault - it was that bad.

But again, I respect her right to eat anything she wants, but things that smell that strong should be kept to the mandated lunch hour as that is what is respectful (I don't eat my curries or garlic dishes during lecture - only during the mandated lunch hour).

im totally with you - also, there are a fain number of people who are scent sensitive (myself included) and can get headaches and migraines from strong smells. i'm all for snacking in class, but it needs to not be something that potentially disrupts the learning environment (so no eating crunchy food during the lecture, no playing with packaging, etc)

Actually, I kind of figured that was the case. I read an article once about co-worker complaints and one of the topics was something like "Smelly Work Food- It's not really about the food." Yes, when you already dislike a person and it's really easy to magnify their annoying behaviors. In my experiences though, that's never a good thing and often leads to retaliatory accusations or demands.
 
This is kind of a dumb rant, but does anyone feel totally stupid starting out at a new job? This is my second week as a receptionist at a small animal clinic. I've been a vet tech/assistant at other small animal clinics but I'm not used to the receptionist job yet, and I feel like I keep making the dumbest little mistakes. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I know I'm hard on myself, but still....can anyone else relate? 😳

I think that when it comes to "the front" and "the back", it's two different worlds. The smartest thing our office manager did was have us cross train on reception. I would work reception a few nights a week, and let me tell you - you'll develop a whole new level of respect for those girls! It's an entirely new ball game, so give yourself some time to adjust and don't be too hard on yourself. 🙂
