I could go on forever about the things people I worked with or even some family members would miss work for.
My aunt once missed a full week of work because of a UTI... seriously, a full week. I had a UTI/kidney infection combo and was instructed that I should head to the hospital, instead I drove myself 2 hours back to undergrad because school was starting and I couldn't miss the first day of lab because they will drop you from the course. I never did go to the hospital, because I am a stubborn, stubborn person.
So many coworkers will miss multiple days worth of work for minor things... one coworker missed two days of work after a dog "bit" her. The dog was intubated and clamped down when being extubated, it grazed her thumb and caused a little bleeding, she missed two days of work for it because her thumb "hurt too bad". I wanted to smack her upside the head.
Then there were the usual mild illnesses... coughs, colds, congestion, etc. I can understand missing a day or two for some of those, but certain people would be out for a week or more just for a cold. Then again, I was the stubborn fool that had appendicitis for 3 months and still worked despite the pain. I don't expect anyone to be stubborn like I am, nor do I suggest it, but some of the things I saw people missing for and the length of time they were out was absurd.
