Dishwasher's broken, water won't drain out of the bottom. Why can't our appliances just work?

Maybe she can make friends with the blonde girl that cheerfully posed next to the dead giraffe recently.

Yeah, this was another that I just can't comprehend. Even if she is being honest in her explanation (which I say is BS), who poses next to a dead animal like that? I shouldn't be surprised at how stupid people can be, but sometimes it really does amaze me.

I hope she never practices at a small animal hospital again. I know I wouldn't trust her with my cats. Why did she just assume the cat was feral? Even if he was, I still don't think that is ok.

Have they confirmed the cat was Tiger? Last I read, that was not confirmed. Not that it makes any difference if it was a feral cat or not.

Rightfully so. I would imagine she's getting a lot of hate right now. Can't say I feel that bad for her.

I was thinking about that last night as I was on my way to sleep. I sorta pictured myself going through all the hell of pre-vet requirements, vet school (she's a 2012 Colorado grad), boards, internship, finding a job, starting to get some experience .... life is cruising along you're starting to feel comfortable in your job .... and then wham. You do one stunningly stupid thing and you're fired overnight, hated by the vast majority of people who hear about what you did, possibly facing license action, possibly facing criminal charges, likely going to have exceptional difficulty finding a job in the field you trained .....

What an incredible ****ty night she must have had last night.

I mean, she totally brought it on herself. To shoot the cat, post a picture, and then make such arrogant comments .... it's just baffling anyone could be so oblivious. Not saying she didn't bring it on herself. Just that ... wow ... she must be in a bad place today since her entire life just went out from under her. (At least, I would guess it did.) But, she totally earned it.

Just emphasizes how much veterinarians are under the microscope. Had that been some overweight gap-toothed redneck in a wife-beater people would hate on him a bit on Facebook but that would be it.

she apparently did an equine internship.
Explanation ... received.

Wait, what? 🙁

I hope she never practices at a small animal hospital again. I know I wouldn't trust her with my cats. Why did she just assume the cat was feral? Even if he was, I still don't think that is ok.

I personally wouldn't want her working on any of my animals. Whether that is my cat, my horse, my goat, my herd of cattle, whatever.

I understand that there's more of a utilitarian view in large animal due to the nature of it, but I feel like this story goes so far and beyond that it shouldn't even remotely matter what kind of work she was doing or should be doing in the future. Her demonstrated mindset is not something I want to see anywhere, not just small animal.

Horse people be cray cray. 😉

I know this and horse people jokes are fine with me 99% of the time, but I found this incident to be so horrific and so stupid that the link being made to being a horse person as reason for what she did is particularly difficult for me.

I know you were just joking around, I just don't like being grouped with this level of callous disregard for life.

Ok. Sorry.

my point was that she wasn't just small animal like someone asked. She was at least mixed.

Ok. I understand that you were correcting it.

I don't understand how any type of practitioner can expect to make that post and not have their career ruined. So I don't understand why specifically small animal was brought up as if being a different practitioner somehow changes things enough to expect a different explanation for her actions.

I found the original specification to be odd from my point of view. Just like I found it odd that it would be ok for her to work on other animals, but not small animals again.

Oh my goodness I really can't stand my mother's crazy paleo diet tendencies while at home.

Love you lots mom, but pretty please don't try and pretend this crap is actually based on science...

I definitely understand where you are coming from but I think the original distinction was made because it might seem more horrific to the public for someone who treats small animals, including cats, to pose with a cat they have just killed. It would be perhaps less damaging to the public image of someone who treats large animals or zoo animals or whatever. I did see a comment on fb to the effect that it was particularly disturbing for someone who treats people's pet cats to do something like that.

I didn't mean it like that at all. I meant it like WZ said, that it's somehow worse because she treated cats on a regular basis.

I honestly don't want her breathing the same air as me. If she does need to keep breathing though, I wouldn't be too horrified if she took a job for a pet insurance company or something like that where she doesn't actually interact with any non-human animals. Given her ethics (of lack thereof), I wouldn't trust her in pathology or research though. Hell, she probably shouldn't be allowed around children either.

I find it equally horrific on all fronts, not sure if that is attributable to having a LA background and loving cats as much as I do or what.

But I do hope to see some licensure action taken at the very least.

Boy kitty is in the ICU with pneumonia. He's in an O2 cage and on lots of abx now. Still no idea what has always made him cough, but now his trachea is collapsed partway and he has pneumonia. Boo.

Conversation that happened with my mom:

Mom: Random person's dog ate something (I would have no way of knowing if toxic, not a 'typical toxicity' case). Is it toxic?
Me: (Does a quick VIN search). Can't find anything online, can't be sure. I would have them call poison control.
Mom: But that costs $65.
Me: Yes.

I feel like everytime I look at my facebook news feed, someone posts that they are now engaged. And I'm just sitting here, VERY patiently waiting. Argh.😕

My plan: apply again while working at undergrad (summer 2015--spring 2016); if not in, work on teaching certificate (spring 2016-spring 2017); while working on certificate, boyfriend better get a job (still doesn't have a job......); stabilize. If in vet school, YAY!!; vet school fall 2016-spring 2020; while schooling, boyfriend better get a job (see previous note); get married during school; have babies.

It's solid. No way it can fail.

Oh don't worry. He'll dump you when you most need him. Tis how it works.

Jaded I am

I have given up on trying to make plans. I have gotten my hopes up before, but nothing ever happened. I am not going to force him into anything, either. I'm hoping something will click in his tiny little man brain next year when we move in together after I graduate.

Ughhhhh somehow missed the small detail that you don't have access to your VMCAS after a certain date. So now I don't have a copy for reference anymore... 🙁 🙁 🙁

Otherwise rational relatives jumping on the paleo diet bandwagon and posting about the "Science" behind it. All disease does not begin in the gut. ALL DISEASE DOES NOT BEGIN IN THE GUT. RABIES DOES NOT BEGIN IN THE GUT. ALZHEIMER'S DOES NOT BEGIN IN THE DANG GUT.

Anatomy of the head is the ABSOLUTE WORST. Ughhhhhhhhhh. I hate hate hate HATE it. :arghh:

Tuesday afternoon cannot come soon enough.

I think the funniest thing about it is the idea that our paleolithic ancestors were somehow healthier than we are today, even though their lifespans were much shorter

Yep, that was the worst anatomy exam I ever took. Wishing you the best of luck. The last one is much nicer, at least!

I'm betting this one is going to be my worst one as well (by far). There's just SO much, I just can't learn it all in time.

I'm really hoping the last one is as easy as everyone says, which in a way stinks because they cut the points in-half for us on the practical portion, which makes it harder to get points back from this horrid head exam. 🙁

So I heard last night that was the case. The last one is super easy, I promise! Everyone needs a grade boost at that point.

Seriously, though, if I heard the words "leaky gut" one more time while at home I think I would have thrown some damn organic, grass fed beef at my mother. 🙄 I cook pretty much exclusively vegetarian, often vegan, at home and it seemed like every damn thing I talked about cooking was bad for some reason or the other because of some bad science reason.

Horse being boarded at my brother's farm has canker. Owners can't afford surgery 🙁

Sorry to hear this TT 🙁 Is he doing any better yet?

A little bit - like he isn't open mouth breathing and he is head butting and meowing now, but he isn't eating and he is still on 50% O2. I don't know how he will do with lowering the O2. And I'm sure that he will still have a cough if he does get back to room air. I mean, he's had it for years.

Yes and no I think. People definitely like to make judgements about vets or medical professionals in general and that may give them some additional standards or ammunition to judge you by...but I don't think anyone is above and beyond and safe from being a target. I've seen more stories lately talking about people being subject to a full on assault via the internet (I believe I read one in The Atlantic sometime in the past couple months), with varying severities of their indiscretions and it's led me to the conclusion that anyone can become the target of an internet witch hunt for who knows why. Not that there's justification to harass people, but having a target stuck on your back for no apparent reason probably feels even worse. I'm not defending her actions or her post, but I can't help but feel bad for people who get caught in her situation. Yeah, she did something bad and probably needed an attitude adjustment, but when so many people pile up to knock you down a peg, it becomes more of a landslide. She's an idiot for posting it, and so are some others who have found themselves in similar situations, but does the punishment really fit the crime?

This was what I was remembering: http://www.theatlantic.com/entertai...-needs-to-quiet-down-about-everything/389360/

They cut off part of Jim Norton's quote in the first paragraph, but I agree with his intention. I think plenty of people don't truly get offended that easily. They get off on outrage and seek things to make themselves feel self-righteous and put others down.

Does someone really deserve their life ruined over one, in very poor taste joke?

I just can't believe anyone professionally trained at a vet school would be foolish enough to risk their career like that. The internet is the exact opposite of a vacuum, nothing is private anymore... why would she willingly post something so damning...

We can take this as a lesson in social media for professionals, I guess. Don't post anything that could compromise your career, period. Obviously this is a really horrific example of something that could, but there's other examples of unprofessional behavior out there and we've all got to be super careful. Employers and schools watch this stuff, not to mention everybody else on the planet with access to the internet.

She may have done her career in with this.

Agreed. One of the clinicians here emailed it out to all the classes. Basically saying, look at this. Now don't be stupid.

I generally agree with you on social media witch hunts, but this case is nothing like the Justine Sacco brouhaha. Lindsey's actions are far beyond making a stupid joke or generally acting unprofessional online. Her actions warrant an investigation by law enforcement and TVMA, and social media just happens to be how she got caught. If she had gotten caught in a different way, like through a witness, I'd like to think the professional fall-out would've been the same.

It's one thing to make a stupid joke or be unprofessional online and have people tar and feather you for it but it's another to violate codes of ethics and conduct that apply to your profession. This isn't a case of simple internet outrage. It's on par with a pediatrician getting caught abusing a child. Certain professions have certain responsibilities that go above and beyond the responsibilities of the average person, so I really don't think it's fair to compare Lindsey to some random redneck killing a cat or to someone in an ordinary job making a crappy joke that goes viral.

looking at texas law, I'm not certain she did break the law. Though we are focusing on the animal being a cat, does it change things if it were a wild rabbit or deer that was a general pest and destroying her backyard? I also have to question if there was abuse/suffering as it looked like a very clean shot. So I don't think I'd compare this to a pediatrician abusing a child. It's apples and oranges. What I do think is that she showed remarkable lack of judgement in posting the picture and her subsequent comments on the picture. That lack of judgement would make me not want to hire her, personally.

I really strongly disagree with what she did and she definitely deserves any prosecution or professional investigation. What I don't like seeing, is the death threats made to her and people generally using hate against a very poor act. She did something bad, she deserves what the law gives to her, but the death threats deserve prosecution too. You can't harass people or threaten harm just because you are upset. I get the anger behind her actions but I have to say seeing some of the things veterinary professionals have said towards her, I'm a bit disappointed that others are stooping so low.
