Hey, how is your daughter? I don't think I ever saw an update!
Um... I don't know if I did... huh.
We pulled her out of school the day after the ER visit. They made me go talk to her teaching team to see if we could work things out. The main teacher rolled her eyes repeatedly through the whole thing and they made it sound like I would have no choice but to go back there, but her old teacher backed me up, forwarded emails and we told them we would keep her out of school rather than go back to a place where the teaching team thinks and says things like:
1) "She'll need to grow out of using sign language. It's a dying language even among the deaf community since now they have cochlear implants." -I asked him, the Speech Therapist to pretty please never say this to a deaf/hard of hearing family.
2) Separating her from the other students isn't going against her IEP. (They were just gonna remove social development and communication since they had already removed all her educational goals😡)
3) If she is going backward it doesn't have anything to do with us -even though her emotional and health problems started after she began at this school and she became verbal again after we took her out and we brought evidence that she was writing her name before school and the doctor from the ER was willing to write a note to the effect of "based on this kids history, something bad is going on in her life currently and based on available evidence, I recommend removing her from this school."
And so many other things...
Anyway, we just got word a few days ago that she gets to go back with her old teacher and classmates and her old teacher is soooo excited to have her back!
She is back to singing and dancing and chattering up a storm and her gut is working just fine (despite her recent addiction to "fries, fries and chicken!" every time we pass those golden arches)
