And then the other side...our clinic was told by another vet that he only does slow kill method (against AHS recommendation) because those shots are poison, you know?! And that the dog we saw while the owner was on vacation might need to be treated a different way because he's a very strong positive still has microfilaria? Well, he probably only has 1-2 worms, so slow kill is best....And this vet is in Mississippi, home of the resistant heartworms.

Katrina spread a lot of hw positive dogs and i expect that will continue.
I've come across a few er patients on slow kill...one who was suddenly coughing and lethargic after 2 months of,"treatment"...the lady told me her vet only recomme,'s immiticide for sick dogs because it has bad side effects that make dogs sick. Er I think youd have better odds treating the asymptomatic population...

yeah. there are a few here that do that and I have no idea why they haven't actually looked at the research

I bought 2 SD cards for my phone and tablet last weekend because they were on sale. Didn't have time to install them, so they stayed in the bag together. I have a 500 sq ft studio apartment, and I cannot find this bag anywhere. It's driving me crazy! There is no place to lose things here. Its so strange. I swore I set them on my table, but they are clearly not there. Argh. Guess I look for them when I get back in a week...

Nevermind, of course they are in the last place I think to look 😉 (sleep deprivation does strange things to the mind kids)

When your doctor finally agrees that surgery is the best option, but you leave in a week. If only he came to that conclusion weeks ago when I first brought it up....I would have been out of the sling by this point.

P.S. Use more than just hydro and diazepam. Just my recommendation. Not the point of the question, but......

Isn't it frustrating how often those types of problems happen? Once in a while... ok. But I recall classes where every single test - exactly the same online quiz given the previous year - had multiple problems. At some point you kinda wonder if anyone is paying attention on the other end.........

Dear front desk:
Can we space out the sick appointments and not jam them all between 4 and 5PM? Please?
- Dr C

Dear blocked cats:
Pee. For the love of the flying spaghetti monster, just pee.
- Dr C

Ugh you know what's a let down? When blocked no money (azotemic hyperkalemic) cat dislodges crud from the tip of his penis and pees a huge stream, so you do outpatient care cause it's either that or euthanasia, and he continues to pee okay for a couple days at home then shows up for euthanasia on like day 4.

My latest went home yesterday mostly able to pee (he was incredibly stressed out in the hospital and it wasn't ideal). He was supposed to come in today for recheck and didn't. I'm fearing the worst. 🙁

Hmm let's see how many times they screw up on cal while I am away. So far count is 1. 9 more days to go, I'm betting they call me incorrectly at least twice more over the next week. My phone will absolutely be on silent while I am away at interviews!! Made them a nifty little voicemail message to help clarify when I don't pick up!

Having to sit to wait to discharge a patient when he is the only one here and there are no major treatments that he needs. Normally I enjoy discharging my patients but when the owner's say they won't be here for an hour or 2, I'd rather not sit around and do nothing.

Vikings... :rage:😡🙁

I can't even rant about it I'm so mad.

I just... I just... @#$*#$!*#$*(@!$*(^*(R$%sdfshklRWEQ&(#$$#(#

Every gorram time I have to watch the child-beating fumble-prone running back drop a ball in a key situation I want to scream. I'm so SICK of the fact that our society pays guys like that (and by 'that' I'm referring to the child-beating part) millions of dollars to entertain us. Sure, he's a great running back. But he's a child-beater. That should have been the end of his career. No questions, no discussion, just done. If I were in his shoes, my company would have booted me out the door faster than the judge could bang the gavel. I wouldn't have gotten a second chance because gee, I'm a really good vet. (I'm not saying I'm a really good vet. Just saying that if I was, I still woulda gotten fired.) I hate that we give pro athletes a free pass just because they're physically talented. F that. There are other athletes who don't beat their kid.

And missing a game-winning short field goal? It was like Gary Anderson 1998 all over again.

I just want to cry.

Lifelong Vikings fan. It hurts so bad.

Ok. I guess I was able to rant.

Playing the animal game with my SO as we drive the last leg of our 20 hour trip back home. If you've never heard of the animal game, it's basically 20 questions with only animals (and unlimited questions). So far he has thought that a turtle was an amphibian, that alpacas are smaller than a corgi, that snails are insects, AND he had never heard of a mole before (literally had no earthly idea what a mole was). He also has no idea what the diet/habitat of any animal he chooses is. How does someone dating me know so little about the animal kingdom?? I think it's safe to say we can no longer play this game together... Lol

Update: he just goes "OHHHHH is that why it's called 'whack a mole'? Because moles live underground and pop their heads up??" 🤣Someone please help me.

If that were me and my boyfriend, that's when I would pet his hair and tell him how cute he is haha 😛

Reminds me of my mother last month...My dog was in the barkyard poking at something with his nose so I went to check it out and save whatever it might be. Ended up being a little vole which ran off while I held my dog. Went back inside to tell my parents what it was. My mother said "Vole? You mean mole? There's no such thing as a vole, sweetie, I can't believe you've been saying it wrong all your life." :smack: Googled and showed her a picture of a vole and she still insisted that was a mole. Showed her what an actual mole looked like and she freaked out (since my dad has told her we have a mole problem in their yard). Oh mother...

LOL that is too funny!!

Hehehe, I couldn't decide whether or not to be annoyed or just happy to have him to put up with my animal craziness 😛

Dear Nova Scotia vets,
You can have your "walk-in" health certificate client back. You may also have her impatience as we tried to pull the information together to get one filled out ASAP. Finally, please, please, PLEASE document your rabies vaccine lot number and expiration date on health certificates. It's pertinent information.

Sincerely,
dy

Don't want her. Nope. Your problem now, we called "no backsies".

I feel like I'm not going to match at all and I don't know what I will do with my life then and I'm having a bit of a mini meltdown crisis about it!

Oh no! That's heartbreaking. 🙁

It's so sad 🙁 the guy that shot the mom only shot her because he knew she had a baby and he wanted to sell it as a "pet bobcat kitten". Thankfully he was stupid enough to post in on Facebook and people threw a fit. The guy surrendered him to a lady who brought him to us. It was awful.

Does your wildlife center have any sort of legal team that could press charges? Maybe he couldn't get in trouble for shooting the mother (I don't know, maybe that too depending on the hunting laws in your area), but if anyone has screen shots of his fb posts, I feel like saying he wanted to illegally sell a wild animal should have some sort of legal ramification?

That's awful though 🙁 I'm glad the baby made it to your center.

We work with the game wardens in the area, but we don't have a legal team. Unfortunately, since he didn't actually sell the kitten, there's nothing that can be done. Also, it's perfectly legal to shoot bobcats where I am, since they are considered "vermin". Ugh. We did get someone arrested earlier this year for selling hundreds of baby red eared sliders at the fair, but we can't do anything this time 🙁

So I am currently doing a postbac fellowship, and I am getting bombarded by emails about resources for pre-med and pre-PhD peeps.
I had asked the director who's in charge of all these training/workshops if I can participate in interview workshops and the like, and whether there are other pre-vets like me on campus.
She essentially told me: Yes, there have been a few others like you, but we don't know what to do with you because nothing we offer is likely to help you.
Thanks, I guess?

At least they're honest.

I don't see why you can't participate in interview workshops though.

What the hell is wrong with people? Who would want a baby bobcat to buy or sell? I get that most people don't realize that wild animals aren't good pets; but this is just common sense here. I also might have more faith in the average person than I should.

People buy baby tigers all the time. So a bobcat is thoroughly unsurprising.

I wanted to, but then the only workshop that I heard about was a group interview (with multiple interviewees) and are meant for those who are looking for a PhD. From the preceding seminar, it seems like very little of the grad school interview process overlaps with the veterinary school interviews. (What, they pay for your travel and feed you to convince you to come to their school? In our dreams...)

Med school interviews seem more similar, but for whatever reason I haven't seen any of those workshops offered. By now I am kind of in the thick of interviews so i suppose it's kind of late for that.

We had this conversations at the center yesterday. People were wondering "who would buy a baby bobcat kitten?!" And I'm like, people buy baby tigers that are ENDANGERED and on the brink of extinction, much more often than you would wish to think. I'm not surprised that people would try to sell or buy a bobcat kitten, but it still sickens me that humans think that they can kill/harm whatever they want just for the sake of turning a profit.
