Some people are simply absolutely ridiculous and you can't do anything about it and really will learn to roll your eyes and move on eventually, promise. Most people blow over pretty fast.Just when I am feeling pleasantly surprised about how confident and competent I am at this job, some lunatic owner has to pitch a giant fit about me "committing malpractice" on her pet (shocker: I didn't and it was an infuriatingly minor illness that if she followed instructions would have likely been 100% resolved by now). Now I feel like crap even though I know I did nothing wrong. I have two severe baclofen toxicosis dogs sitting up looking at me less than 48 hours after being completely comatose, had my first IMHA case on christmas that went home happy and wagging its tail, etc. etc. I cannot even be happy about my treatment and management of those and other complicated cases because this minor, trivial, seen every day issue has resulted in a jerk owner acting like a FREAKIN JERK.
Basically sitting back and waiting for a social media mob to come for me and the fact that I have to be afraid of that is making me SO SAD.

Ugh I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I know it's hard but try to remember that you didn't actually commit malpractice here. Sh*tty clients/people have a knack for making you feel inadequate, even though you've proven time and time again to be a fantastic doctor. I wish I had more to say to help you with what you're feeling.Just when I am feeling pleasantly surprised about how confident and competent I am at this job, some lunatic owner has to pitch a giant fit about me "committing malpractice" on her pet (shocker: I didn't and it was an infuriatingly minor illness that if she followed instructions would have likely been 100% resolved by now). I'm debating if I should just wait it out for a bit longer, send her an email now, or what.I’d email, personally but it’s up to youNot really a rant for me, but: I'm currently waiting for an interview call from one of the internships I applied to. It was scheduled for 20 minutes ago. I'm completely understanding that things come up for doctors, but holy cow is my anxiety exponentially growing right nowI'm debating if I should just wait it out for a bit longer, send her an email now, or what.
@Trilt @Karabiner13 I appreciate you guys so much. I’m mostly just feeling really bummed with myself for the fact that I’m letting it bug me so much. And knowing that if she does actually take it to the office manager he probably will refund her and kiss butt even though he should not. Sigh.
I waited until 30 minutes passed and sent an email. I've been up for hours preparingI’d email, personally but it’s up to you
I once had a phone interview for a job and they didn’t call when they were supposed to but apparently something just went wrong and she had TRIED to call but somehow it didn’t??? So I emailed after like half an hour
At least when the call actually does end up happening, I'll be ready.@WeimMama wish pet owners would FOLLOW the advice of their veterinarians.Just when I am feeling pleasantly surprised about how confident and competent I am at this job, some lunatic owner has to pitch a giant fit about me "committing malpractice" on her pet (shocker: I didn't and it was an infuriatingly minor illness that if she followed instructions would have likely been 100% resolved by now). Yeah ... this stuff happens in human medicine, too. This is what's wrong with vet med. This ****ing drives me batty. We need to start putting clients in their place. You didn't follow directions this is your fault. We need to be firm and not kiss ass. If they take it to social media, they'll have to lie about what happened, start suing them for libel. There have been cases now if vets/doctors suing people for libel. Time to start making society responsible for their own bull****.

It's infuriating and discouraging - especially when tx was clearly indicated and pt blew it off - seeing this a lot.
Plus, also dealing with google-search problems ... yanno ... google said to do this (and NOT do what you want me to do).
I hate Google. Client gave his cat tylenol because goggle told him it was ok, when I told him tylenol is extremely toxic to cats and will kill them and he's lucky he isn't seeing any issues currently, he blew it off and was all "well Google says it is fine"..... ugh, fine kill your cat then, don't cry to me about it.
I've spent hours googling trying to figure out what website is out there saying that tylenol is ok for cats. surprise surprise, no luck.
Your words help, thank you. I'm pretty much past all the initial feels and I'm just kinda left with being alarmed/annoyed to realize how fragile my happiness/mental state truly is LOL.I wish I had more to say to help you with what you're feeling.
Yeah I HATE that most of my emotion was related to fear of this happening and having my "good name ruined" or whatever only a few months out. Like why should we have to have that in the back of our minds during every single client interaction? We shouldn't.This is what's wrong with vet med. This ****ing drives me batty. Very sorry you're feeling like crap - sending good thoughts to you!
I lost a patient under anesthesia just a bit ago and wasn't right for a freaking week. We are doctors and we do this because we care - it isn't a bad thing. Just gotta work on our mental armor a bit for our own sanity. 😉Your words help, thank you. There's a guy on a local rescue page who recommends crazy **** for everything. He's convinced colloidal silver cures parvo, he meets up with people IRL to give them "medicine" for their dogs, wants everybody to feed their dogs garlic and onions and essential oils or whatever. Somebody reported him for practicing veterinary medicine without a license and he's been pitching a huge fit/witch hunt all over the page.Owner cites Google, really meant the comment section on a shady breeder/pet group page.
I've seen FB people recommending garlic/onion by the bulb on the daily for any ailment under the sun, actual marijuana (not THC, like actually feeding the dog their stash), and even things like performing minor surgeries as home ("just sharpen a knife and cut the tumor off, it's a dog and it will heal"). Scary stuff. It seems that we're entering a time where our educations truly mean nothing to a good number of people.

Hopefully it's acted on by authorities. It's honestly insane what people do. And even more insane what people recommend to sick people, especially those diagnosed with cancer. I've seen it so many times. 'You probably don't actually have cancer/diabetes/x, it's just a money grab.' 'Marijuana saved my friend with incurable cancer, don't ever do chemo!' 'Eat avocado!'There's a guy on a local rescue page who recommends crazy **** for everything. Our officers once had to go out on a welfare check for a dog with a bad skin condition. They gave her a citation to obtain veterinary care and when they went back to follow up and ask her what she had done, she said she hadn't saved up enough burned motor oil to put on the dog yet. She then told them that a vet had definitely recommended that treatment to her and was mad when they told her actual doctors don't recommend that. I believe she said she was going to go to the news about us because we obviously didn't know anything about good medical advice lol. YikesJESUS CHRIST NO
I've had a woman absolutely insist that her veterinarian only recommends and uses garlic as flea prevention, even on the vet's own dogs. She was adamant. Now I know there are 'holistic' vets out there that push EOs and whatnot, but I've honestly not yet come across any vet that actually pushes garlic/onion for flea control. I've seen firsthand that it just doesn't work (real quote: 'Oh, it just keeps the fleas from biting my dog, it doesn't actually keep them off my dog'), not to mention the awful gas those dogs must be shooting out of both endsOur officers once had to go out on a welfare check for a dog with a bad skin condition. Well when you get heinz body hemolytic anemia from your garlic toxicity, you see, you're not a very attractive host to the fleas so they go find another dog with a higher PCV to infest...
This is basically what I tell people too lol. "I guess if you're hoping the fleas won't find enough blood in your dog for it to be worth their time...?"Well when you get heinz body hemolytic anemia from your garlic toxicity, you see, you're not a very attractive host to the fleas so they go find another dog with a higher PCV to infest...

Ohohoooo you have not heard even a tenth of the things I have encountered in this town lolWHAT
There needs to be a book! '**** pet owners say.' Although it wouldn't help with the issue of distrusting vets.Ohohoooo you have not heard even a tenth of the things I have encountered in this town lol
Unfortunately my mother is client C. She thinks she can cure everything at home. We have fun conversations about this a lot.View attachment 245935
Relevant to the current discussion though haha
I am so sorry for your loss mixy. Will be thinking about youI hate colic. I hate that we dont know more about it and cant do a better job at preventing it. I hate that it's such a delicate balance between surgery and medical management. I hate the fact I lost the best horse I've ever had in less than 8 hours while I slept. She was perfectly fine last night when I went out to feed her. At least I got to spend time with her one last time since I got to be home with her and not away at school.

Well, still haven't heard back. I'm hoping it's because the interviewer was off for the holidays and not that she never intends to interview me for whatever reason. I just find it odd that an interview scheduled less than 48 hours prior would be forgotten about, or that she wouldn't at least have emailed me back at some point that day letting me know something came up 😕I waited until 30 minutes passed and sent an email. Definitely a rant: how do I adult?! what are taxes? jesus take the wheel?!!? stress level 7 million. ALSO WTF is work/life balance. I though it was a thing I would discover when I graduate but LOL haven't met that fella yet.
Less of a rant, more of begging for help: does anyone know how to find an accountant/tax preparer? does anyone know of one in eastern DE? I have a semi complex situation as I need to pay taxes on my side hustle this year which also means I can claim deductions from it but I have 0% clue how to do that. Any advice/help/sprinklings of holy water/etc. are so much appreciated.

turbo tax. Taxes are my jam! Yes claim deductions! Basically turbo tax. Federal tax you file for free, but if you pay income tax in your state, I believe DE is one, you have to pay to file your state tax. If you really don't want to do it yourself or it's too complicated you can go to a service like H&R block. Honestly doing it yourself is better though.
