Thanks everyone for the reassurance. It’s definitely comforting knowing that I’m not even close to alone in feeling this way. My girlfriend has been trying to smack reality into me by saying how ridiculous it is to feel like it’s all been a huge mistake, but it helps to hear it from people going through it.
 
I have a splitting headache, a high fever, no voice at all, and minor trouble breathing because my throat is so swollen... oh, and a midterm. This should go well.... (on the upside I'm not particularly congested, but I have a feeling I just need to give it time...)

I know everyone says not to worry about things, but the second year intro to clinics is definitely not anything to worry about!!! You basically just show up to the hospital and watch. sometimes they have cool cases you get so see, sometimes you sit on your butt for 2 hours and ask the fourth years good questions. Not hard or anxiety inducing at all! It’s just actually going over there, learning how to navigate the maze better
 
I feel like this year is really getting me down with the whole euthanizing a bunch of my animals thing and then the various house catastrophes that still aren't fixed, and now I have a torn peroneal tendon and am in a walking boot for an undetermined length of time.

Not meaning to in any way minimize your suffering because that seriously sucks...but what immediately came to mind was horses with torn peroneous tertius tendons who can do that bizzare flexing stifle/extending hock thing.

There’s an annoying ass starling outside my work.
I hate starlings.
**** starlings man.
(They’re pretty to look at and listen to and all, but their ecological impact is so freaking big and bad that I can’t bring myself to enjoy this guys morning song. Pouring one out for you, native species)

Ugh. Just had a woman call the other week asking about Nexgard. We hadn’t seen the dog in a while, and the vet who took over the practice a little over a year ago had never seen the dog. I told her that we couldn’t fill the prescription because we haven’t seen the dog recently enough. She’d have to bring the dog in for an exam first. She scheduled the exam for a few days after and then said “since I scheduled an exam can I get the prescription now? She needs it today.” No... It’s flea and tick preventative and it’s 20 degrees out and snowing. Waiting 3 days won’t be the end of the world.

Sorry, you just reignited my hate fire
 
Fresh rant. Kinda long. Sorry.
I cancelled a flight for another school’s interview back in February. I purchased insurance and figured everything was fine, and I had an email with a code for an ecredit from Delta. I was annoyed they didn’t give me a full refund but whatever. I decided to book a flight to Vegas to visit my cousin with my girlfriend in June. I figured I would destress a little before school starts, catch up with my family, and have some fun. After all, the flight is free since the credit is more than the plane ticket to Vegas.

I went to book that flight today and at the end I entered the ecredit code. It’s giving me an error saying it’s invalid. Okay, that’s weird. So I call delta. I’m on hold for over 20 minutes before someone picks up. They tell me because my flight was basic economy, the ticket was use it or lose it. Instead of telling me that in the email, they had just sent me an ecredit that had no value. I told her I had purchased cancellation insurance and she said she had no idea what that entails because it’s through a third party company. She gave me the number to call so I did.

I get all the info from the insurance company and I look over what I need to submit. I look into the terms and conditions because why not, and I see that there are only like 8 reasons that are covered: terrorist activity, severe illness, death of a family member, severe damage to your house, etc. Everything has to be documented. Is there any way I can spin this? Maybe. Then I see the crusher: all claims must be filed within 24 hours of cancellation or your claim will be denied. Coooool.

So now I’m out $350, plus I have to buy the flight to Vegas because I already promised my girlfriend I would, and I’ll never purchase flight insurance again because it’s a scam. This just happened 10 minutes ago and I want to crawl into a hole and die. Maybe I’ll put my entire life savings onto a roulette table to recoup my losses.

Airlines are scammers. I don’t know where you’re flying from but Allegiant has some cheap flights into Vegas. At least enjoy the trip now that you’re “forced” to go!

Allegiant doesn’t have any flights from where I live :/ I’m just biting the bullet and doing it. I know I’ll have a ton of fun on the trip and it’s important to do things like this to destress. I was just so angry that Delta would do that.

I imagine that some of my SDN friends messaged me on snapchat after my loss of control post (lol), and I should probably mention that I got rid of snap about a month ago. woops. PM me for my number to text me if you'd like. could certainly use a friend.

and of course thanks to everyone for the support. it means more than you know.
 
Some did a hit and run and took out my driver side mirror. No other damage as far as I can tell but I’m super annoyed cause now I have to find time to get it fixed and it likely only occurred because the city plowed the streets horribly leaving at least a foot of snow on the road. This has turned the road into essentially one lane because of street parking and people are dumb and try to fit when they can’t.
 
My fiancé pointed out that I come on SDN when i’m overwhelmed with school and I guess I just need to tell you all that the community here is so supportive and on really really tough days I creep on these forums and rekindle my love for vet school. I wish I could remember who said it so I’m sorry I can’t give credit - but “it’s okay to hate vet school sometimes” has been my mantra. I’m so thankful and blessed to have this opportunity but damn if it isn’t the most mentally taxing, draining thing I’ve ever done. Keep on keeping on y’all.

@capri1722 I'm sorry you're facing so much uncertainty. I hope that cancer isn't the diagnosis, but even if it is, it doesn't mean same-day euthanasia will be the outcome. FWIW, only very rare cases do I recommend euthanizing that same day; more often than not the family wants some to spend a little more time with their pet and I do what I can to make sure that time left is as comfortable as possible. Hopefully she's got plenty of time yet 🙂
 
i have 2 rants. they're both stupid and petty. but im still going to rant.

1) my landlord is so ****ing oblivious. like.... SO DUMB. she's always been super unresponsive and hard to get a hold of. it's never been toooo much of an issue because nothing has really gone wrong, but when it has (like, once) it took weeks for her to send someone out to get it dealt with. so i came home the other day and our heat had gone off. our thermostat display is super tiny and dark, and it's in a dark, very poorly lit (even with the light on) hallway, so its super hard to read. when i got home, it had a black band flashing at the bottom with negative text that i thought said "replace belt" (this is after like 5 minutes of squinting and trying to see it). i emailed her and was like "our heat went out, apparently the belt needs to be replaced, if you could send someone out to fix this ASAP we would really appreciate it. thanks!"
my roomie got home and was like "oh yea, the heat went out" and i was like "yeah apparently it needs a new belt" and she squinted at it and was like "i think it needs new batteries? i think it says 'replace batt' " so then 5 minutes of us both squinting at it, agreeing that yes, it did in fact say "batt" and not "belt" ... we take the thermostat cover off, replace the batteries, heat is back on. yay! it's been less than 45 minutes since i sent the email, so my roommate replies all to the email saying "nevermind! we misread it! changed the batteries and it works, no need to send anyone, thank!"
next morning, i wake up to an email from landlord saying "ill make an appointment for someone to come and check that out. ill call today" and i reply saying "thanks for getting back, we actually misread the display. no issues with any belt, it was batteries. we changed them and it works! no need to send anyone! thanks!"
this was 3 days ago
today, my roommate gets a text "hey 'heinously misspelled name that is not a hard name at all', i made an appointment for tomorrow between 5:30-7:30 pm for someone to replace the belt. please make sure someone is home" :bang::bang::bang: roomie replies "please don't. we figured it out." landlord has not acknowledged she got the text.
like.... WHY. the ONE TIME she is timely in her response, she misses MULTIPLE emails/texts saying "FALSE ALARM WE DO NOT NEED YOU TO SEND ANYONE HERE"
on the other hand, we've had mail for her here since august that she still has not picked up. she was supposed to make an appointment to check our AC filter in august, it just happened 3 weeks ago.
UGH OMG

2nd rant) our apt complex has these really nice guest spots that are right by the stairs that residents always park in/they are not enforced as guest only spots. each apt also has 2 assigned parking spots in a covered garage. guest spots are not in the garage, but they're much more convenient. these 4 guest spots in particular are coveted, prime parking. there is this one person who a) SUCKS at parking (is ALWAYS over the lines and turns these 4 coveted spots into 3) and b) HAS BEEN PARKED IN ONE OF THESE SPOTS FOR A WEEK NOW!!!!! The unspoken rule of these spots is that residents can park in them, but they are NOT long term parking!! you literally have an assigned, COVERED spot to use if you are going out of town/won't move your car for a week!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! it's IMPOSSIBLE to park in the spot to the left of him because he is SO CLOSE to the line and the other spot is blocked in by a railing on the left, so there's no room overshoot your turn and then re-adjust between the lines of the parking spot since you'd hit the railing.
so i just left an angry note on his windshield "this is not for long term parking. you have an assigned, covered spot for that" and i wanted to add "and if you are going to use this spot long term, please at least park well!!" but i'd already put the note under his wiper and i didn't want to risk being seen getting the note or putting it back. so i left it. BUT I WANTED TO ADD IT DAMMIT *shakes fist in anger*
now i have to lug my groceries up the stairs from the garage when this spot was right next to my apartment. ughhhhh
and yes, i do know that this person is a resident because i have seen his car in the garage many times, and 2 years ago he parked so badly that i found a note on his car saying "learn to park or don't reproduce" (i didn't leave that one. i wish i did).

see, i told you they were petty. but DAMN IT if i didn't need to spew all of that out.

@capri1722 I know how you're feeling, and so do so many (if not all) of us here. We are all here for you to provide support during this tough time. I went through it a couple years ago with my kitty and it was really difficult. What helped me was to keep in mind her comfort and happiness, as well as what a good life that she and I had provided for each other. When it's their time, you just know. I had a house call vet come over and she was put down where she was most comfortable. It's so hard to lose our beloved pets, but remember how lucky that you and your pup have been to have had each other. I hope the diagnosis isn't the worst-case scenario, but no matter what just remember what a good life you gave her. She loves you and wants you to be happy, and vice versa. Much love to you and your family, please message me if you ever need someone to talk to.

I got in a fight with my peroneus brevis tendon lost [emoji39]


Partially tore it like 9 years ago which has caused chronic ankle instability + osteophytes + scarring of my plantar fascia.

Mostly bearable for years with controlled exercise and meds, but added a new acute injury over winter break (maybe tore the tendon more?) and the whole thing just became absolute garbage that I could barely walk on.

So... a tendon debridement and repair on the ankle and a fasciotomy for my foot.
