Why are lighting fixtures so freaking expensive? Any why can’t companies get together and make their gold tones match? Finally found some kitchen island pendants I really liked, and they’re $399. And I’d probably need 3 because my kitchen island is massive at 9ft by 4ft. That’s almost my entire lighting budget. I did already pay for my primary bath sconces and the chandelier over the tub out of pocket which gives the lighting budget a little bit of wiggle room, but not that much since we still need a dining chandelier, guest bath lights, and a foyer chandelier/light on top of the kitchen pendants. Ceiling fans and exterior lights are a different line item on the budget but I fear the exterior lighting budget is skimpy for the five fixtures needed there too.

In semi-related news, they’ve been painting the exterior of my house all week. Hopefully done tomorrow and she’ll look like the white farmhouse of my dreams.
Idk where you’ve looked yet but I know my mom got a lot of theirs from both Lamps Plus and Amazon, if you haven’t checked there yet. Looks like lamps plus is even having a sale rn

Amazon has a knockoff version of the light I want for only $210, but only one is in stock and I’m too scared to buy just one until I know if they’ll restock. So just watching that listing for now.

TMDAS.
WHY OH WHY Does Texas need to be special. I have been trying to get into my recommender portal for days now...I'm very close to telling the poor applicant sorry but I can't get you a letter for Texas A&M. They have 2 days before I give up because then I'm going on vacation. VMCAS-piece of cake and done a long time ago.
Update finally got in. To then be annoyed of all the little short essay answers vs just letting me upload a letter like vmcas. Its finally done. I really dont want to have to deal with this tmdsas again 🫠

That’s essentially what happened until he left UF.

Last I knew he was still dating the gf who bailed him out for this incident so hopefully he just keeps to himself…
WHAT THE F*CK

yeah I knew the charges got dropped bc they forgot to read him his Miranda rights but WTF

Edit: I’m sorry, did they not even google this guy? All the articles are still up

1. Not being read the rights is one of the stupidest things that could ever not happen and result in charges being dropped. It's such BS
2. HIS GF DIDN'T LEAVE HIM!?!?>!?!?1/1//1?!?!?

I haven't seen a difference. But this came up in SPF
I know they're trialing something and I've been afraid to look at it because I hate change and won't adapt well.
You can revert back to OG! There is a link for SDN style something-or-another at the bottom of the page. Thank jeebus because the new look made me physically uncomfortable

Am I allowed to rant about SDN's new look
I opened it yesterday and was like where is anything. What. Me hate change!!!

Gainesville police department is well known for botching everything. I mean they caught him in the act and he confessed on camera. Then they couldn’t use any of it in court bc they didn’t read him his rights. I feel the worst for his victim - she was so upset.

Nope. She proceeded to bail him out of jail FOR VICTIMIZING ANOTHER WOMAN. She was a vet student in the class below him. Stayed with him through everyone seeing the body cam footage. Cried the day he left the school.

I wonder (she says, as loudly with intent as possible) if tOSU just simply didn't know (likely), and if they did know.....

Nothing changed in dark mode. I think it's because we all.... Got left in the dark 👀
Depends on which dark mode you’re on 😂

Light fixture update no one asked for…ordered three of the pendant lights off of amazon. One transaction, it showed 12 in stock. One arrived today. The other two say they’ll be delivered today but also tracking shows they haven’t shipped yet. And my town is very small so all Amazon comes via USPS and the mail has already come today. Fingers crossed the other two ship and come or else I have one light I won’t be able to use.

Currently crashing out. Finally got my baby’s ashes back today.

The stupid ****ing vet clinic didn’t put his footprints or feathers in the bag. If they somehow lost them I will lose my ****.
update, they theoretically have his footprints and feathers. They were just in another room, the receptionist said happily. So maybe by today I will have the rest of my baby back.

This whole experience has been exhausting frustrating and emotionally taxing. Trying to take it as a learning process of how I absolutely do NOT want to treat clients at a clinic as a future veterinarian. Because it’s truly been miserable from start to finish, from first receiving a referral coupon on top of a massive bill after sobbing over his body for an hour, to then having to go back to the clinic because they didn’t give me his crate back, to taking forever to get him cremated, to now not even giving me all of him back. Like please. It’s such a jarring experience coming from a vet clinic whom I trusted with everything and they gave so much care to both me and my animals, to this where it feels like they are just saying “here damn”

I am trying to be professional though and would like to shadow here if I can though, both for my own professional development and also to get closure on what the hell is going on here because I know I likely have invented a horrendous practice in my head because I’ve have had such a piss poor experience. Like it can’t be like this for everyone

Ugh I'm sorry. I would get so mad with front of house staff when they would do stuff like this. It makes the entire clinic look like a hot mess (as you've come to learn). And it's just that extra layer of distress that people fresh on the loss of a pet should never have to go through.

It could be worth asking for a moment of the vet(s) time to chat about it when you're ready. If I were in a small clinic setting, I'd want to know about all of this. Especially the coupon, that's just pretty tasteless and shows the staff aren't really thinking about what they're doing

Yeah…cause like the perception I have currently is that none of the staff there give a **** about the animals that come there. So I was TOLD it was all hands on deck trying to save him, but in the back of my head, I’m wondering did they actually try?

Eventually I want to ask the vet what her thought process and decision making was like to decide that the xray made the risks worth it for my own knowledge but I can’t face that right now.

If I do get to shadow there somewhat regularly I will probably bring all these points up at some point.

The saga continues

I guess they technically did his prints. Even though they are hardly legible on NEON GREEN MODEL MAGIC

Took a couple feathers.

Referred to a DNA SEXED MALE as a SHE in the “sympathy” card twice

I like. Don’t even know what to do at this point. He may as well have been thrown in the trash for all they care. It doesn’t even feel like he is home.

I will not be going back here. If they respond to shadowing, maybe I’ll go to see what the hell happens behind those doors. But my remaining bird (who has been hardly eating, not playing at all, and mostly silent sitting on one perch all day) will NOT be going back there even if I have to drive an hour or more away.

Even with all his medical issues, my baby should still be here. And the way this has been handled has been absolutely horrendous from start to finish.

I hope you let them know this. I used to work with a wonderful lead receptionist who said every complaint is a blessing because it means you get a chance to do better. It would be extraordinarily kind of you to try to help them do better, so no one else has to experience what you’ve been through.

I will at some point, while attempting to stay professional but I don’t think I can manage that at this time

Honestly, I would not. I don't think you'll be able to have a positive experience there after all of this. I would absolutely have that conversation with the vet (or hospital manager) when you are ready though.

Model magic is horrible for footprints because they don't hold! I am so sorry. I totally get it. I was pissed that my cat's footprint had a heart charm embedded into it that I didn't know would be there, I can't imagine my only footprints being this...weak. I try to give vets/clinics the benefit of the doubt by default but this really sucks on multiple levels

If it was done by the major crematorium near you, that’s def their standard 🥲 I don’t think that they advertise that’s what their prints look like either
It was, and I had no idea. I am lucky that my GP also made me a plain footprint. The charm just looks so tacky?

When I took my rabbit in for cremation I was able to ask for one without the charm at least.

When my westie Winston died, I was the weirdo who asked to bag him up myself. I kind of got a weird look and then an ‘um, okay’…probably some privilege there because I was a vet. I’ve seen too many people just plonk them into the bags without proper respect. And to some degree I get it, shifts are busy, big dogs are heavy, and there’s a zillion things to do to attend to living pets. I was taking him for burial at my parents house but my request to bag him myself and take him with me meant they didn't do any of those little momentos. I did think to take an inkpad and index cards to the euthanasia so I did take my own paw stamp. And I do have a slightly misshapen clay paw print from him that we made when he was still living one particularly slow night on emergency at my internship…good clay paws are hard to make, but especially when the dog is still alive 😂

I ended up taking my pets' bodies directly to the crematorium myself same-day because I couldn't stand the idea of them sitting in a freezer or being man-handled. Or sitting on a table/gurney for hours until someone had time to bag them (this was very much a thing in the ER, we'd have a lineup of dead animals waiting for pawprints and bagging).

Luckily it wasn't a crazy drive (like 45min) but I'm sure most people don't have one that close.

I’m going in today to at least say my piece because it is really weighing on me. The guy I talked to on the phone seemed shocked that it was not a positive experience

Had to leave work in the middle of an emergency case yesterday bc daycare called and my baby had an 103 degree fever and I had to take him to the pediatrician urgently. He’s doing ok now but very scary day and night.

Add to list of Ls this week of: nails in all of my tires, really sad terminal cases, getting my period, my mom back on her narc bs (but she has cancer I can’t be mad at her!)

I went in and shared my feedback. I think it was very productive and one of the middle managers I met with took notes and said he would go over everything at their weekly staff meeting. I feel better and hope this will start healing these gaping wounds slightly.
