Just got back from a lecture by Jim Wight aka James Herriot's son. Probably the most candid and interesting person I have heard speak in a long time. He didn't use a single powerpoint slide or anything, but all 200 of us students were captivated and a wee bit starstruck. I 😍 Glasgow.

Omg, I am now ENGAGED!!!! 😍 😍 I'm so excited!!

Yay, welcome to the club! 😀 Just don't start planning your wedding, that part is no fun 😛

My rave: My dog has a skin infection. I brought her in today and the vet was like, "So, do you know what it is?" And I got it right (Staph intermedius) AND I remembered it's a cocci shape haha. I know it's such a trivial thing but to have it all come together was definitely a "Oh right, I might actually become a vet!" moment 🙂

Just brought my second baby home!! 😍 I missed her sooo much. She spent the last year at my parents farm. Last year I had a housing issue and then this summer I couldn't find her. She was always on hunting trips. I went to visit today for a different reason, and she was just sitting in the doorway of the barn, like she was saying 'I'm here, now let's go home'. :soexcited:

That must have been a very neat experience! I too loved James Herriot's books and have all of them...whenever I want a great read I reach for them first.

Cuuute!! Haha, here I thought Samson was a male. 🙄

Samson is a male but he came in with an intact female. She had 12 puppies.

Oh my dear god, please steal the fawn for me 😍

I've already told four people I'm stealing that one. All of his brothers and sisters have been picked up but he's still waiting for his new family to come get him. I maybe sat with him for half an hour today while I was supposed to be doing real work. He looks so much like his daddy and has a lot of the same mannerisms. 😍

Ahhh, now it all makes sense. 12 puppies! Wow.

And 11 survived. It's especially impressive when you consider the fact that she was severely malnourished. She looked like a starved horse and is still in foster care trying to get up to a healthy weight.

Was at the large animal hospital for my shift last night from 7:30 PM until 4:20 AM (usually only supposed to be there until 1AM)...... we had a calf come in with atresia ani... the farmer's vet had made an incision with no luck, so we scanned the area then decided to go in surgically to see if there was enough rectum/colon on the inside to make it work and get the calf back in working order.....

The surgeons went in from the back first to make a larger hole ventral to where the farmer's vet had and then tried to see if they could find the blind end of the rectum - with no luck. They then did a laparatomy through the left abdominal wall to examine the colon and get a better idea of what was going on inside the abdomen - see if the colon was attached to the bladder (which it was). After quite a bit of finagling and trying to figure out the best way to get the colon to reach the area where the rectum should be they finally figured it out.... but not without giving the calf and inverted rectum.... but such is life.

Now it is a waiting game to see if the calf will be able to use the rectum normally and it will grow correctly with the calf.... as the calf is only 2 days old now.

Very interesting night to say the least...... but damn I am tired now.

My boyfriend is amazing. He came over and made soup for me since I'm sick. 😍

That's awesome! She's a cutie. Looks a lot like the cat I had growing up. Black and white kitties are so special. 🙂

Finally got some maternity pants. They are like heaven. I am never wearing normal jeans ever again.

LOL! I remember that feeling. Enjoy it while it lasts, soon even those will feel tight. 😛

Wow, Devyn, sounds like quite a night.

I've never seen the operation for atresia ani...it's not too uncommon in lambs. My family thinks it's weird that I check every lamb when it's born for defects like that. I may be paranoid, but I'd rather catch it in time and have some hope of repairing it than have a lamb die a miserable death. I've never had an issue but still.

Do you know how the calf is doing now? Is it a heifer? I've seen pics of these in lambs where the lamb can actually defecate via the vulva. Weird. Not sure if there's a genetic component or not.

Just signed up to volunteer to assist with a class on tarts and pies at the same place where I took an AMAZING bread baking class last spring. Very excited!
Hoping to be able to get a spot helping with a beer/fall foods pairings class in October.

And, my Nats won last night! Thought things were over after that 2nd inning (4 walks and a wild pitch), but this is quite a different team from 2 years ago!

Go O's and Nats tonight!

As of yesterday morning he was doing ok. Still not eating a ton, so hopefully he has upped his milk intake.... so that he can try defecating....

I have to wait until tomorrow to hear from a fellow vet student who is on tonight about his progress..... glad not to be on tonight, but sad not to get an update right away!

It is actually quite odd for a farmer to spend money on a male dairy calf.... but this farmer seems to really love his cows much more than your normal farmer... if it was a female then it would make sense to put the money in as could bring the farm money in the future, but male dairy cows are not really much use to most farmers....

I am pulling for the little guy! 🙂

My cousin just had a gorgeous baby boy :biglove: I'm so excited. We are only 3 days apart in age and have always been close so he's an extra special little boy to me 😍
Same side of the family as my recently deceased grandparents so we're all extra happy about it 😳.
My two other cousins (on the same side of the family still) are due in the next few weeks as well... all boys 😱

Just found out from the head of the department that I was selected out of the undergrads to do a presentation (thankfully only like five minutes) about my research to the Advisory board.

😍😍😍 combined with :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

Laying on my bed with my puppy curled up by my side.

I couldn't possibly stand up to go get my textbook to study ;-)

So. Shiny.
Is there a drool smiley on here?

Classmate's birthday today. Someone put a party hat on the professor's podium. He put it on, no questions asked, and taught the entire 4 hours of lab and lecture with it on
He even took a picture with the birthday girl.
I'll put a pic up for a few minutes. View attachment ImageUploadedBySDN Mobile1349825035.852907.jpg

A wonderful 4 day weekend full of sleeping in, quality time with family, and lots and lots of TV time. 😀

And in my case, followed by a week of case-based learning that does not involve class, tests, or quizzes. I have every intention of allowing my brain to leak out my ears this weekend.

We only get a 2 day break, but I'm giving myself a 4 days break (lab professors are okay with it, all lectures are voice/video recorded) so I can take a day to drive home and actually spend Thanksgiving Day with my family..

We get two days for Thanksgiving, but they're right after our finals and before selectives start, so they are going to be the best breaks ever.

We have all of next week (Mon-Fri) off for fall break, though - none of this one or two day crap.
