As I always do my research prior to placing any bets (with the exception of horses - I go by name and how 'good looking' the animal is) I would like to know a couple of things. What type of sutures are you being tested on and what 'medium' have you been provided with for practice?
using a daisy and expired suture material.

.Surgeon's (Friction) two-hand knot.
. .
. - Ligation around hemostatic clamp.
. .
. - Instrument Square and Instrument Surgeon’s knot.
. .
. - Simple interrupted suture pattern.
. .
. - Simple continuous suture pattern.
. .
. - Horizontal mattress pattern.
. .
. - Vertical mattress pattern.
. .
. - Burying the knot -- simple interrupted suture pattern, subcutaneous closure .
. .
. - Ford interlocking suture pattern.
. .
. - Lembert suture.
. .
. - Connell suture pattern.
. .
. - Cushing suture pattern.

Oh yeah, rave - I neutered 50+ cats yesterday at a feral cat clinic run by the Sacramento SPCA. As a (dubious) bonus, also got to help with running 4 codes, and we actually brought back 3 out of the 4 but of course, since they were feral cats ended up euthanizing them at the end anyway because the colony caretakers had nowhere to keep them confined and they hadn't quite returned to anything close to normal neurologic status by the end of the day. THEN, got to do 4 necropsies with the shelter vet to figure out why they may have arrested. Of course, I was there until 6:30 pm (clinic is usually over by 3-ish) and had to drive back home 30 minutes, shove food in my face real quick (hadn't eaten all day) and drive back in the same direction and ref 2 adult hockey games at 8:45 and 10:15 pm. I am still exhausted today but yesterday was fun. 🙂

I always thought Connell and mattress were the same thing. Oh well. Anyway, this is a lot to learn (although I'm very sad that they aren't testing full subcutaneous patterns) and no doubt you've been provided with the 'fun' needles for practice. So, I'm going to go with 27. That, or the loss of feeling in one finger due to over pricking. Good luck!! :luck:

PS - Nyan - Yes, that DOES sound like a fun day!! Well done!!

Way to be a bad arse 👍

I'm going to say 5 for you SOV. I stab myself far less frequently than I expect, and I'm pretty darn clumsy. How coordinated are you?

When I pay attention I can be very coordinated (I am a pilot/flight instructor ya know)... but when I am inattentive/distracted, I knock myself around a lot (bruises etc)...

Ok. I'm going to tell you to pay attention, and stick with 5. I regularly remind myself to pick up the needle with instruments and not my hands. That tends to cut down on stabbing. Sometimes I just feel like a fumbling fool with needle holders.

Haha I've been waiting for someone to notice! I cracked up when I found it, but then no one else noticed/found it funny and I was bummed.

Oh! I forgot what I came on here in the first place. It was a super productive day at the zoo. Not only did we shave llama, move snow leopard and intro fennecs, but I also re-did all our surgery packs and color coded all the instruments, plus made a spreadsheet of what animals needed what vaccines, dewormer, and contraceptive and how often. Productivity go!
The most exciting part about the llama was that we shaved it without anyone getting hurt, which is the first time this llama has been handled without breaking someone's bones... Apparently the previous vet didn't use sedative on these untrained, non-handleable llamas and would instead just have the keepers try to restrain them. Like dogs. The two other times they've tried to do anything with this llama it broke one keeper's arm and the other time trashed someone else's wrist to the point that they had to have surgery.

I'm all super snuggly wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. You know that feeling when you're so warm you could fall asleep any second? 😍 😴

On a chilly fall day with the windows open and the breeze flowing in as you watch a days worth of football and fall asleep during halftimes. Best days ever. For sure.

Not only do I get to see my BF in... 3 days as of right now technically 😀, but I got another surprise itinerary email from him today. He's coming for a whole 6 days around thanksgiving!!!!! :biglove:

Just got offered $400 for a pet sitting job with 3 dogs and a cat... I am only staying 2 nights!

I love my puppy. She was do cuddly this morning.

😍 😍 😍 I would love to adopt a doggie, but I dont know if I'm ready for the committment! and the $$ factor. But your pup is the cutest!

I'm not ready for the $$$ thing either yet. She'll be a guide dog and the organization pays for all the vet bills. I just pay for food and toys and things like that. She also came with a crate, which was a nice way to save money.

I won't adopt for a while. I might foster to avoid having to pay money again, but not get my own.

That is - unless Ivy gets released from the program. If I'm asked if I wanna keep her, then I definitely will. She has such a great personality and is so easy to take care of. I will eventually get a German Shepherd and I doubt I'll find another one like her.

😍

I actually finished what I had set as my study goal. Took me longer than I hoped but still got it done. Off to bed now. 🙂

I get to kiss my boyfriend in 12 hours! :biglove:

PP- Your "puppy" has grown a LOT!!

Emiloo- have fun with the BF!! 🙂

She'll always be my puppy. Especially during those cuddly moments. 😍 I want her to get big enough to comfortably put her paws on my shoulders. And she might actually make it there. 😍

Electrical bill has been sorted out!!! FINALLY! I no longer owe nearly 1,000 pounds ($1600) for 3 months of electricity... 😀 😀 :woot: :woot: :soexcited:

This is incredibly exciting. I am so so relieved and happy for you :claps: :hardy:

Yay! :soexcited: I thought that whole electrical bill thing was ridiculous(on the part of the company). So glad it got figured out in your favor!

My rave:

Going to a friends house for a Pure Romance Halloween party! (Haven't seen this friend for a few months, she lives 3.5 hours away from me, but I was visiting another friend in the area and we are both going to her party)

Then we are going out for drinks after! 😀

Currently babysitting a friend's GSD. He's so big and goofy. I love it! (Note to self, remember to take all food off the coffee table when walking away)
My 25 lb female dog has a raging crush on him - she's such a hussy. She keeps staring at him with big brown eyes, tail wagging furiously, and then shoving her tail in his face. And yes, she was spayed at 5 mo of age haha

We have to take food and drinks off the coffee table, too, because of my GSD. But not because she'll take it, but because her tail is abnormally long and she cleans the whole table off with it.

My boyfriend gave me chocolate dice for our anniversary.

Like, these kind of dice:

Made out of chocolate.

Omg. Where did he get those? The bf and I are big gamers ( we made our own dice trays) and he is super hard to buy for!

And congrats on having an awesome boyfriend!

Went for a swim earlier today with some of my classmates. I haven't felt this relaxed since school started!

Had such an AMAZING time tonight. Went out with a different group of people than I usually do and while there was drinking involved, we were all just sitting and chatting instead of it being about the act of drinking. I feel like the people I was with were more mature and I LOVED it. Totally needed that.

In other news, when I was coming back to my apartment, I accidentally backed into one of the garages and scratched my car. I jerked my shoulder around and now it hurts 🙁 But it was still totally worth it.

I have my first wildlife shift tomorrow, and there's two eagles in right now. 😀 Plus I'll be with roughleggedhawk, and she's awesome and experienced and I know she'll be great to work with (and won't laugh too hard when I inevitably ask a stupid question.)

Jam, we need to get together and game sometime. Specially if the boy still is in need of local friends. Hubs and I both miss gaming. 😛

I had a lapful of loving kitties this morning. So glad I decided to go to the shelter today! And tonight, free food (bf's parents are up for celebration weekend and are taking a bunch of us out) and swing dancing (my first time at a real dance, not just practice at club meetings)!

We're out of town for Thanksgiving, but we will definitely have to do something over Christmas break. 🙂

2hr Skype date with the fiancé 😍 😀 :biglove: 😀 happy girl

Some days it's easy to get frustrated and forget why I'm here when I'm stuck in a classroom for up to 6 hours a day - especially when I've spent the past 5 years working as a technician and interacting with clients, animals, and other veterinary professionals. I spent yesterday morning helping at a local endurance/LDR ride here, doing vet checks on horses as they came in. I got to hang out with one of our teaching hospital's clinicians, a whole bunch of other vet students, and interact with LOTS of horses and owners. I also got to put my hands (and my stethoscope) on a lot of horses in a very short time. It was a great morning, and a great reminded of why I got into this whole mad process.

Just think, 3rd year you are only in class 3-4 hours a day when you don't have surgery! You spend the rest of the time studying but at least you aren't stuck in a classroom.

I keep thinking there's a reason I left the "desk job" path. I am looking forward to getting out of the classroom more often!

Learning how to put in a chest tube and a central line and how to do a tracheostomy on Tuesday. SOOOO PUMPED.:soexcited:
