I actually have not tried this yet. I don't think anyone I've worked with does them.

I had never seen anyone do a single incision until today. I rotated into the neutering station and the vet asked me "Do you do neuters with one incision or two?" like it was some sort of routine thing, haha. I was like "...two?" and I think my utterly confused expression made her take pity on me and explain the single incision process. You treat it like a prescrotal incision in a dog, just over the testicles instead - manipulate one over then cut through the median raphe/septum region and get it out, then cut into the other through that same middle incision.

Ah okay. Wait...maybe one of the vets at my recent externship did them. But she was only in like one day a week, so she never really taught me things. Or maybe I just heard someone talking about them.

I do single incision scrotal neuters in puppies (ends up looking a lot nicer than prescrotal neuters), but for cats I always do two incisions.

Can you still close with tissue glue, or do you have to suture? That sounds awesome, but cat neuters are my fave due to their complete lack of suture material.

I've actually never glued (or sutured) a cat neuter - we're taught to leave them open.

Come back and visit us... I'll teach you 🙂

I leave cat neuters open, and use two incisions most of the time.
I do use tissue glue for scrotal neuters on young puppies.

I'm not doing that on puppies yet. I usually don't neuter them under 6 months so I really haven't seen an appropriate case to try it on. But I'm intrigued by the 1 incision cat neuter.

Ahhh tissue glue on scrotal puppy incisions is amazing! I also do the one incision cat neuter.

i am sunburnt from some time spent at the beach today. 🙂 this is a rave, because it means that i actually got to spend a few hours outside the hospital walls!
i sort of take this back. i now have an abscess on the bottom of my foot from stepping on a huge pricker at the beach, and might have blisters on my back from being so burnt. hmph. this is why diving is so much better.

Just bought my parking pass for school and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I paid less to park on OSU's campus for a whole year than I do a semester where I work! :soexcited:

this makes me laugh, because i've seen several outraged facebook posts recently about how ridiculously expensive vet school parking passes are.

It makes me laugh when people complain about the price of a parking pass around here... if it isn't over $300, it isn't expensive.

And considering some of the universities in AZ had parking passes over $1,000... I just chuckle at the complaints of a $140 yearly parking pass.

i think it was about $400 for me at NCSU. i think all of the complaints i've seen have been for >$300 though

The parking pass at Penn is crazy expensive. I opted for the commuter train pass and monthly parking pass at the train station and saved a couple thousand.

It's absurd here. I've just opted for free parking on the streets and biking to school and hoping my car doesn't get jacked/hit by a bus. Granted you're coming from outside the city. Most people I know do public as well cause the garages are too pricey.

Where is the free parking near penn? I've looked but haven't found any.

Once you get west of 41st or so you can park for free on some streets. It's tight during the school year though. If your car is registered in the neighborhood (i.e. if you live here) you can get a resident permit from the city for very cheap and that opens up a lot more options.

I've looked into this, but I don't think it's worth the hassle to change my license and everything for the remaining 9 months I'm here. I really wish I could just bribe PPA to give me the permit.

45th and 46th Spruce are free, a lot of Sansom is free (specifically 44th and 45th) , Pine street has some free parking. My cross street (I'm at 45th and Locust) is free but I can never remember the name of..think it's like Melville... or something.

OSU is only $310 a YEAR! I work at another university in Ohio where I have to pay $351 a SEMESTER to go to work.

I hadn't even noticed this year when I bought my parking pass that OSU's had gone over 300 now. Nor did I notice that we can only register 2 cars now per pass instead of 3? None of this slide past my classmates though! Several angry facebook posts...

I don't mind the price at all (and I'm coming from an undergrad where parking passes were FREE 🙂) I'm also glad they let me register more than one car in the first place so I can take my husbands car if I have to. I just wish when I got to the vet school that were would actually be available parking spots... Several times last year I just turned around and went home because there were no spots and I watched the podcasts instead.

FWIW as another data point, that's how I do them now, after a shelter vet encouraged it. I haven't had any trouble, but I've probably only done a handful.

I enjoy my volunteer time at the shelter. Really helps me improve my efficiency with surgery, which pays off at work when being fast(er) can be important.

Correction: It's almost five feet tall.

Your dad did an amazing job, Coquette. Super Jelly, and I don't even have cats.

And... now that free time is gone. I'll have to bug you once we get back in school and see what shows I should add to my queue 😛

The only one you miiiiiiight like is one called Blacklist - there is only 1 season and it is on Netflix. Everything else I dont think you would care to watch.. Maybe House of Cards - Mayyybe.

So I posted on our facebook page (for the business) about our new vet and new hours - we're opening on Thursdays. One of my clients shared it. "Live anywhere in [removed location]? Bring your pets here. Best vets, best prices, nicest staff, and they REALLY CARE about your pets well-being." really feeling the love.

Held my first DES session tonight, which is basically a student-run study session, for Pharmacology 1 tonight and pretty much the entire class below me showed up... So about 100 people. Kept my cool even though I was beyond nervous and I think it went pretty well 😀

My kind husband bought and installed a huge ~4ft x. 8ft whiteboard in my office today! I'm so excited because I predict it will be very useful this fall when I start school. It cost $12 including hardware. If you're interested, the stuff is called marker board and they have it at Home Depot.

We had one of these in my basement 2nd and 3rd year. Wish I had lived there first year for anatomy. Would have been uber helpful. I also should have used it 2nd and 3rd year but ehh dusty basement.
