I've been listening to Amy Poehler's book recently and it's made me feel a heck of a lot better about vet school. Still have 1+ month until I could hear back from waitlists.

Amy said to treat your career like a bad boyfriend. That it'll treat you like crap and sleep with other people. Idk, it just resonated with me and I feel a lot better about vet school in general. Vet school is just a bad boyfriend who won't pay me any attention or acknowledge me. And I just kinda have to live with that and keep on pushing for my passion.

It's now been almost 4 months since my dismissal from vet school... $107k in debt, $50kish of which for a program I didn't even finish... broke, jobless, aimless, and borderline suicidal.

Today I was offered my first choice job---animal care/nutrition specialist at Purina! I also found out after speaking with my loan servicer that all of my loans qualify for PAYE so my loan payments should be very affordable for my projected salary. I mean, yeah, I have that massive tax payment at the end to save for, but hey. This is the best news I have heard in months and I cannot wait to start working again in early April!
YAY SANDY!!!!!!! So so happy for you!!!!!!!

I'm really excited because this spring, hubs and I are going to start volunteering at a local horse rescue :) Hubs is tagging along because they need people to help with maintenance type stuff and that's right up his alley and I will FINALLY get my equine fix after six years away from them. I wanted to start riding again but figured volunteering is free and probably more flexible time-wise. Wee :D

This is not really a rave but something funny that came out of a sad situation.

My grandfather died today, just a few months after my grandmother (his wife of 70+ years). It sucks.

However, he had been arguing with my aunts about having a funeral for the past few months, because he decided he didn't want the fuss (and my family members refused to accept that). So, stubborn guy that he is, he decided to donate his body to the local med school so that they wouldn't have a body to bury. Thus he won the great funeral debate as of a few hours ago.

He must have had fun making those arrangements! He sounds like quite the guy.

I hope your family is doing okay, especially your mom. I'm sorry for your loss BBC. Lots of hugs your way!

My school added a varsity d3 lacrosse team this year. I played in HS and was pretty good so I decided to join for my senior year. Finally, I got a hat trick in our 4th game. I have 6 goals on the season (and our team as a total has only scored 9 lol). It's a bummer to be on a losing team (we are new after all) but it has been cool being such a high-impact middie for my team. Can't wait to get more goals and DCs (for anyone who knows what this means lol)

I think he looks better than previous - especially the ending. And I am by no means a fan of any of the Hemsworths

Sister cant make it to dinner tonight, yay!! Drama free family dinner.

As an aside, I laughed my butt off at SDN bringing back Clippy today.

ETA: Holy crap, "C-l-i-p-p-y" autocorrects to "Rick Astley". Well played SDN.

Last day of nights for a week and a half and last day of work for like a week. I'm so excited to... sleep like a real person!
Oh boy, this is when you know you're an adult. You get excited to "sleep like a real person" because you're overworked and tired. I already went back to college days, can I now go back to being a non-responsible human being and people be ok with that?

I had a ****ty day yesterday. Not one of those uber ****ty ones, just like one where every little thing annoys you and then I didn't have anyone to vent to until my bf came home at 10:30pm. I kinda talked his ear off.

I promised myself to start taking better care of myself last night. I packed my running gear with me when I came to work today so I can finally get going with that again. I used to love running. It helped tremendously with my anxiety. Re-downloaded Zombies, Run Couch to 5K so I can slowly work my way up today. It's chilly outside (40F) and supposed to be lightly raining all day (I freaking love running in the rain). I'm legitimately excited to start doing more self-care for myself.

Today's gunna be a good day. :)

I GOT A CAST! And it's purple! I was sliding around too much in the plaster splint they put on after surgery (and then my ice pack exploded on it just hours before I was scheduled to come in so it was pretty damp) so finally, after 3+ months of immobilization, I got a cast. I'm so excited. It's beautiful and will serve me well for the next couple weeks. I was so disappointed that I was going to have so many weeks of immobilization and still never get the chance to pick a pretty color. I'd never had a cast before. I love it and it feels a lot safer having it wrapped up snug.

I also got to see my stitches, which was cool. It looks kinda like a baseball. He did a very good job.

The favorite color I had for my cast last summer was purple. I tried out pink, green, and purple but the purple was dark enough that dirt didn't show easily and it matched my work uniform.

My friend who drove me was saying that they'd go for day-glo yellow or something, but I don't want to spend the next 2 weeks burning my retinas and purple won't get too gross!

Don't forget to elevate it if it starts to feel snug!
I have it constantly elevated right now. I accidentally sanded the top of a chair back I had it resting on as it turns out fiberglass casts are abrasive and I kind of can't wait until I can have it down a little more, but it hurts so much less to have it up high!

I think a Canada Goose is quietly nesting near my neighbor's home because this goose has been sitting in the SAME location for over a week.

Everyone in my neighborhood received an Animal Services notice advising us to leave the (broody) geese alone at this time of the year.

I'm expecting the arrival of some goslings in the near future. :)

Geese can be territorial and mean but I admire their spunk. Rowdy little fellows. There was one around campus that only had one leg (not sure if he still visits because I haven't been to that part of campus in a year or two) and he was my little goose buddy, used to hide behind me when the other geese tried to pick on him.

The broody goose is nesting above the waterline in a bushy embankment - so she isn't threatened by the neighbors or land-based predators. No one is bothering her and she seems to be contented.

Every year, we're entertained by the sights of goslings learning how to swim in the water. They grow up fast and eventually fly away.

[Perhaps they'll fly away and visit @cdoconn in the future. Hee-hee-hee.]

Went on a peaceful walk and found another broody Canada goose sitting on top of her nest underneath an old wooden bridge.
Note: I shot the photos from on top of the bridge (using a telephoto lens) - so the goose is below me.

The Animal Services folks have blocked all ingress into this area - so no one can disturb the goose and she is safe.

She looks so sweet, quietly waiting for her goslings to arrive.

This is a rave and rant. The rant part is moving/packing sucks, but I'm super excited about my new apartment. I also just bought a new TV stand with one of those built in fake fireplaces and I'm so excited about it. Makes me feel like such an adult. Also looking at dining tables. I ideally wanted a nice butcher block style table and fell in love with one that was like $1k, but since I doubt this move is permanent I don't really want to invest in a piece like that if I can't fit it where I move next. I do wish I was better at getting rid of crap that I don't need. I feel like I keep packing things that I probably won't use and should just toss.
