Now I'm just picturing your dogs running through this grass like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park
Maybe some day! But only with GPS collars on because a terrier and a hound free on 80 acres means they might never come back. The grass was definitely taller than both of them would be!

The dogs haven’t ever been out to “the farm” yet. There’s currently too many prickly plants like sandbur and cocklebur out there and right now the cheat is seeded out so the grass awns are terrible. They aren’t allowed to go out there. In a year or two we’ll get a homesite made into a yard and maybe spray the pastures for the worst of the plants, but for now I’m giving it a couple years to grow wild and recover after being grazed by the previous owner.

You're going to be ripped by the end of summer, though! 🤩
That is the goal, so long as I manage to stay on the bike. I'mma be hella pissed if I get ripped calves and don't lose any fat anywhere else lol. This is not the main goal though.
But I understand that feeling completely…this Monday I decided to go walk my property line to check on a section of fence the neighbor texted me they were replacing and then swing around to fix a trail camera that had fallen. It is a 2 mile trip around the perimeter. But I failed to remember how out of shape I am, how difficult it is to walk in knee high pasture grass without any trail, and that it was 90 degrees for the first day this year. I had to take breaks to sit in the grass and rest twice. I made it, but next time I’m taking the fourwheeler instead, haha.
That sounds terrible, especially the heat. At least it was pretty cool here. Here's my grumpy thing; I knew I was out of shape but I did NOT think I was that out of shape. Like, I walk. 2-5 miles most days. Otherwise my golden retriever for a spouse spouse gets the sad about not going outside. The last time I was on a bike, I rode 26.2 miles roundtrip in three hours (with a 30 minute rest in the middle). 5 miles should not have been that rough. Though one of my two worst hills is my first, and it feels like it just keeps going forever.

....the only other thing I probably should have taken into account is our air quality is crap because of smoke from Canada. It was 136 when I left this morning, which is "unhealthy for sensitive groups". It's currently 64 which hopefully will help on the way back.

I'm having a real bad mental health time right now, but I just got some photos last night from an aerial show I did a few weeks ago, and they made me genuinely smile for the first time in a while.

because I spent literal months working on this pose and the transitions in/out of it. A lot of time was spent angrily sulking in the hoop because this was far harder to keep in my body than it should have been, but getting a pic like this made it so worth it. :biglove:

I have had the best externship experience so far this week. I’m thinking this is where I want to do my rotating internship!!!
YAYYYY I am so glad!! I swear people really sleep on that Bluepearl. Not all BPs have good rotatings but BP Tampa absolutely has an excellent program.

I have nothing but good thing to say!!!

Two successful CPRs in a row!! Today, a V-slot coded towards the end of surgery and we were able to close up really quickly, reverse everything, etc and get him back. I did compressions and got the pulse back— never done that before. That was absolutely an amazing feeling— to really truly feel like you saved that animal. And I have to give credit to my team and the great team work and general preparedness we have for these scenarios.

Last week, there was a PRAA on a tiny lil frenchie who also decided to code towards the end of surgery. Doc did cardiac massage, together we got CPR drugs, etc, and we got the puppy back. Amazing as well.

A couple weeks ago I was scrubbed in on a PDA and did several rounds of cardiac massage myself for the first time, rotating between me and the doctor every two minutes, but it was unsuccessful. That case has been following me since, it was really rough all around so we won’t go into it on the rave thread lol. But, the success has really lifted my spirits and I am happy for the experience.

Sooooo, many are aware of the negatives going on at my job. Well. I kinda get to benefit indirectly because of all this shenanigans.

I was slated to be overnight Fri through sun this weekend. Turns out a tech quit for one hospital and an assistant needs to call out for another for the next two nights. In order to fill these shifts, they're pulling the overnight tech and assistant from the third hospital and closing it Friday and Saturday nights. Which hospital was I overnight at on Friday and Saturday? The one that will be closed. I also have like 190 hours of PTO. So I'm taking the next two nights off last minute, rather than being the doctor who fills shifts last minute.

What am I going to do the next 60 hours where I don't have to worry about work? I have no idea!

The Na'Vi kitty had a terrible UTI that started last month. Specifically started late night on my birthday/very early the following morning. She is 15 years old with IBD and CKD so took her to ER. She had the whole shebang work-up with ultrasound, UA, culture, methadone, etc. Got her on Clavamox at first, which tanked her appetite and gave her diarrhea. She did that for 5 days, then started having urinary symptoms again about 2 days after stopping the Clavamox. Her urine culture came back finally at this same time, showing two different bacteria that, of course, needed two different antibiotics. So we started her on Veraflox. This was also the day before I left for vacation and my sister was going to be responsible for watching her and medicating her. She isn't always the most cooperative kitty so I was NERVOUS. However, she was an angel baby for my sister and let her give her meds.

The veralfox was given for a week, then stopped, 3 days later, she started having urinary symptoms AGAIN. So was able to get more Veraflox for my sister to continue giving, I got back from vacation about 3 days later. Finished her antibiotics again on June 14th, so a bit over 3 weeks worth of antibiotics. Took her for repeat urine culture on Monday.

Today the urine culture results are back in and we have NO GROWTH! 🙂

I know, I know a UTI isn't a big deal, but she was miserable, straining and never leaving the litterbox, it was hurting my heart. I am so happy for that no growth result.

when the interns put in IVF rates of 62.4mL/hr
There are well seasoned doctors that still do this with fluids, scripts, anesthetics, etc. It's so extra. Do you really need that 2mg of ketamine to successfully knock this animal down? And heavy on the controlled drugs, because then the drug log becomes very inaccurate after you've marked that you've drawn up 102.8mg of ketamine/whatever a billion times, but you're in reality you're just drawing up 100mg, or maybe 102 or 103mg if you're that anal about the dose...

My rotating internship techs beat the 'exact calculation' tendency out of me within a week or two. Of course you want to be exact, but practicality matters too.

No you must give exactly 1.39mLs of that drug can't do 1.4mLs, nope. 😉

The two overnight docs before me once put most of the ICU on odd numbers of fluids (like, 39 instead of 40, 76 instead of 75) specifically to make me twitch out in the morning. We got like three patients in before I commented on it lollll.

I'm actually a huge stickler for being very meticulous with volumes in patients where it matters (cardiac, neonates, teeny tiny things) but I *promise* the labradoodle can have 140mL/hr instead of 137mL/hr, new grads. 😂

Fluid therapy: where the math is made up and the numbers don't matter. 🤣

Twice this weekend I went to spitball fluid rates because I was busy, internally chided myself, then when I spent the time to calculate an actual rehydration or mL/kg/d fluid date... it was the same.

We doin' fluids off vibes over here, fam.

I'm taking note of this for when I come to bother you hmmyes

Something from your local small business 😉

I know, I know, Amazon isn't my favorite either, but I am holed up with a bad back needing 4-5 different procedures to fix and I have a bit of a difficult time getting around. So, Amazon is going to have to be for now.

I need a serotonin boost and well, it is Amazon Prime Day-- what should I buy?
I bought new phone cords. That’s it. Honestly I don’t trust Amazon’s “deals” when I’ve 100% seen them jack up the price then say it’s on “sale” for the same price as before, so I am not a huge prime day person.

Fair. I can say the one book I have in my Amazon cart is most definitely a deal. A hard cover book with sprayed edges for only $13, definitely a deal.

If heating pads feel good on your back, my mom has a cape heating pad and it is lovely. It goes from her shoulders/neck to lower back.

That book sounds like a good deal. What book is it?

I bought this book light for my mom as a "Get well" gift after she had surgery last summer and she loves it. She has read with it every night for a year and the bulb still works.

I feel guilty every time I use Amazon to buy something, but I happily pay for my Kindle unlimited subscription every month. Make it make sense.

I have stopped feeling guilty for using what works for me time wise, financially, etc. And no one should be guilt tripping people for where they shop if that is what works for them. Some people can't leave their homes and Amazon and other delivery places are life-savers. There are a TON of companies who I don't necessarily agree with, but I can't boycott everything, I do the best I can to purchase from places I like and agree with, but I am not going to beat myself up for shopping at a place that fits in with my life at the current moment.

Second this. The second half of 3rd year and most all of fourth year I was dealing with a jammed SI joint and excruciating back pain and getting deliveries was a massive life saver for me because for months I was walking in half foot steps (like my step would only be like half a foot away from where my foot started) and I was walking at a 45 degree angle. I could barely make it from the handicap spaces in the front of the VTH to my service which was the second closest in the VTH and only a small bit further than er. I could barely leave my house and grocery pickup/delivery and Amazon delivery were the only reasons I was even able to get things because it took too many spoons to go anywhere and I used them all on school. People need to do what is best for them. Hope you’re able to get your procedures done and have a bit less pain🩷🩷🩷

I don't think Amazon is 100% bad either. An Amazon warehouse opened up in the low-income community where I work and it has been great for the local economy. It pays better than any other outlet in town for similar skill level and, especially important for people with kids, the benefits are good. I am in the same boat as DVMDream and SkiOtter where there have been many times in my life where the delivery service was absolutely needed because of physical difficulty getting to and from a store.

Pm?????👀
I think you can probably guess where I work  they will be announcing soon

You can check the price history for an item on the listing, although I guess we're still assuming Amazon's honesty with that. I have used it and occasionally seen the price hike before the price drop though, which helps me avoid impulse purchases.

Although I just checked to see where the button was and IT'S GONE. It was literally there two days ago when I checked something, so they took it off for prime day. Which is sneaky af
but I can't boycott everything
I feel this so hard. Particularly right now in this current climate, where the list of companies to boycott is 50 pages long. For those that need (or just want!) delivery, Amazon also offers free delivery without the pressure to tip in order to actually receive your items in decent condition, unlike almost every other 'local' grocery/item delivery service I've tried to use.

One of the cords I bought, I’d bought previously. I looked at my order history and the first time I paid $9.99 for the three pack and it was on sale for prime day for $6.99. But they said it retailed for $12.99. So still on sale but not as much of a bargain as the percent off made it look. Or maybe I’d bought it on sale previously, idk.

There's a website called camel camel camel that keeps track of amazon pricing. It isn't super super up to date, but it'll still have recent pricing info.

For example, the kindle colorsoft bundle I'm considering camel camel camel shows the price from earlier in May of this year. That price was $340something. On amazon it is on sale for $212, but says it is normally $360something.

So possible they jacked up the price in June to 360something when it had been 340something in May.

Regardless, $211 is still a really good deal.

I usually use the Honey plug in on chrome and it will track prices for you too. Sometimes they also make a full new listing for an item so there’s no price history which is SNEAKY SNEAKY and is always higher

Baby did amazing on the plane. He mostly slept and only fussed a small amount once or twice and was resolved with bouncing my leg or giving him his pacifier. Hopefully he does well going home and can repeat his performance in 2 weeks on a 10 hr flight 🥰🤞

a huge scandal came out surrounding honey about how they actually do not save people money and they were stealing referral bonuses from people who were promoting the platform. paypal was being super sneaky
