giraffe lab at the zoo in 16 days.
If this is the zoo to the south that really likes to have giraffes in the mountains, their giraffe doctor is an amazing giraffe nerd and I loved her. I did an externship as a student at this zoo and got to watch hoof care by an awesome farrier team while there.
She gave a really good talk to my team (plus a few other nearby zoos) about emergency response in down giraffes/megaverts and I've been in a state of panic ever sincetheir giraffe doctor is an amazing giraffe nerd and I loved her.

yay!!! congrats!! there is such a relief to being like okay i invested a WHOLE lot of time into studying— i hope it actually works. i feel like i have my anatomy strategies figured out but physiology.. idk wtf i am doing with my study process. how are you in phys? i ask people for advice a lot and they just tell me to use AIAbsolutely nailed my first anatomy exam!!! Omg yess getting a good result after studying so hard is always such a good feeling! Congrats on your anatomy exam too!!!yay!!! congrats!! there is such a relief to being like okay i invested a WHOLE lot of time into studying— i hope it actually works. i feel like i have my anatomy strategies figured out but physiology.. idk wtf i am doing with my study process. how are you in phys? i ask people for advice a lot and they just tell me to use AI
We actually don't have a separate anatomy/phys class! Our "healthy animals" class this semester focuses on the anatomy/phys of the healthy head/neck, limbs, and thorax (plus intro to histology, neuro, behavior, and radiology). We haven't touched on much phys content yet, but I did take a pretty rigorous undergrad vertebrate phys class and had a few good study strategies that made me successful in it. I retain content best when I physically write it out, so I always make physical study sheets. I also like opening a blank Word document and just info-dumping everything I can remember about a topic/process, then go back in a different color font and fill out facts/steps that I missed or got incorrect. I also like talking through processes with other people (or my cats LOL) with my notes in front of me at first, then try without my notes.

I might have to DM you bc I think we’re thinking of the dame zoo, but I’m not familiar enough with the state yet to know 100% if we are hahahaIf this is the zoo to the south that really likes to have giraffes in the mountains, their giraffe doctor is an amazing giraffe nerd and I loved her. this really helps!! the word doc info dump is a strategy i actually used for my anatomy exam when it was coming down to the wire and I just wanted to test what i could remember! i have a big physio info dump but i made it as i read the textbook, normally i would take hand written notes and i wish i could have but omg there is truly no time and far too much content. i will have to open a blank one and see what i actually retained!Omg yess getting a good result after studying so hard is always such a good feeling! I truly miss the days where I could handwrite everything 😭 I didn't use an iPad for notes until my last year of college because I loved writing them out so much. Definitely unrealistic in vet school, I just make my study sheets on topics I know I am not confident on, but even then my hand cramps terribly lmaothis really helps!! the word doc info dump is a strategy i actually used for my anatomy exam when it was coming down to the wire and I just wanted to test what i could remember! i have a big physio info dump but i made it as i read the textbook, normally i would take hand written notes and i wish i could have but omg there is truly no time and far too much content. i will have to open a blank one and see what i actually retained!

We probably are cause I know of only 3 major zoos in the state. The main one; the mountain one; and the super far south one 🤣 But you're welcome to message me whenever!!

I had an appointment with a patio company and the owner was using a remarkable tablet and I fell in love with it. Absolutely adore handwriting things. But I don't think I can justify a $500 purchase right now when I'm planning on spending the money for someone to build me a back patio 😭

honestly I can still justify the handwriting for anatomy (on my ipad)-- it's less wordy than physio for sure lol. i do spend a long time on anatomy notes though and they go through several drafts as i am learning because i end up coming up with better ideas of how to organize the information. i think the way i currently do it does take up a lot of time but i am able to stay more focused and motivated because i genuinely treat it like an art project.I truly miss the days where I could handwrite everything 😭 I didn't use an iPad for notes until my last year of college because I loved writing them out so much. tips pls? i need to read more 🥺Set a goal for myself to read more this year. Went from reading one book in 2024 to hitting my goal of fifteen this year with a few months left for any bonus books!
A few things!tips pls? i need to read more 🥺
1. If I could be scrolling on my phone I could be reading. Even it's only a few pages. I am VERY bad at this one and still get stuck doom scrolling, but when I do make that conscious choice to read instead I feel better. Same with TV; I can get stuck in the "are you still watching" loop in television. If I've already watched a show or three, time to read instead.
2. I do not care if a book is meant for kids, young adults, or adults. If I'm interested I'm going to read it. 6 of the 15 I read are young adult books (I'm currently re-reading Cornelia Funke's Inkheart series and man oh man those books were fabulous).
3. I'm willing to read on a screen, so I got the libby app. All the perks of a library at my fingertips, no need to leave the house. Would I rather patronize the library when I can? Yes. Do I have the time? Often no.
4. If the spouse wants to read, or if I want to read, we sit together and read independently. We're still spending time together, we're often cuddling in some way or at least in the same space, but we're also both making time for something we enjoy.
Today was the first time I read anything in about 3-4 weeks, with school starting up and getting sick. Try not to beat yourself up if you're not meeting your goals or if you took some time off.

Our Zoo and Wildlife Club had a raptor handling session today and I (shockingly) decided to step away from studying to go! I got to do a flight with a Harris hawk and see a Eurasian eagle owl up close! It made me realize how much I miss working with wildlife ahhh

The far south one is having financial issues so we will see if they can get that resolved or not. Im be very sad if they don't because i had plans for my child like zoo camp. Also that zoo has been there forever so just general sadness if they can't get it together. I did an externship there and got to work with the red pandas it was pretty great. We probably are cause I know of only 3 major zoos in the state. On point 2 - so much this. I started the School for Good and Evil series a few years ago in grad school. They're for middle grade readers but they're so much fun and I have absolutely no shame about reading things I enjoy, from fluffy romance nonsense to children's books.A few things!

You guys are MY PEOPLE!! There are some FANTASTIC middle grade books out there that I feel like get overlooked because they're "only for kids". Currently rereading The Inheritance Cycle because I got Murtaugh for Christmas. Eragon was a bit of a struggle at first, but going through Eldest has been fine
I have Erin Hunter's Seekers series on my book shelf, waiting for their turn to get re-read. I haven't read those since I was like 8 but I remember loving them. Reading super deep or intellectual books can be so much fun, but reading them all the time feels boring. At some point I donated all of my Warrior's books before a move thinking I probably would never read them again and I didn't want to use up packing space for them. I that with a bunch of books when I moved out my parents house including all my Meg Cabot books, my Redwall books, and a couple of one offs I adored. My apartment at the time didn’t have space and now I regret it. Thankfully there’s a great chain of discount book stores in Minnesota, and I don’t know if it still is, but thrift books used to be really cheap and I got all of my books, even textbooks off there.

I think everyone agrees that toxic negativity is a bad thing, but people seem to ignore toxic positivity. Both result in a coworker who is unwilling to support the reality of the situation and the rest of the team, honestly.
Well, I took 2 and they said I would fail or only pass by a small margin and I ended up passing by a good bit, so you are likely good 😂Took an ICVA practice test and passed by a good margin so hoping that translates to the actual NAVLE lol

Got a Costco membership. Found Cabot cheese for like, the first time since moving to Minnesota, and got the cats’ preventatives for like, $60 less than my hospital charges. That alone is going to pay for the membership (I know you don’t have to be a member to use the pharmacy but they offer special pricing for members). Spouse is overwhelmed by the experience but I think it’s going to be good.

Sam's Club here because it's closer than costco, and the closest Costco is also the busiest in all of CO. Membership makes my inhalers 20/month instead of 360/month

In vet school I maintained my Costco membership (despite not rly being close to Costco) simply for the exhilaration a Costco trip provides me. Akin to Disneyland.
I am in the land of Costcos it feels like.
