Applied for the NC-ASPCA externship spring of 2028, but only got on the waitlist. They emailed recently and said they were opening more spaces and I got one! Just filled out my VCROSS and have another week to make any edits. It's happening!

is that the spay-neuter alliance externship?? i wanna do that one! do you apply during your third year to get a spot for fourth year?

Yes and they fill up FAST. I think fall of 2028 spots will open in May of 2027, and spring of 2029 will open September 2027. (I think)

yeah i heard it's super hard to get it, but hopefully if i try to get on there asap when it opens i can snag a spot. is it first come first served or do they select you based on your experiences etc?

First come first served. No recerences/experiences, just $25 for the application and an optional $200 if you want to stay in their dorms for two weeks. Otherwise you find your own accommodations.

The dorm is worth it, saves so much $!
I drove there instead of flying and having a car was super convenient, but obviously not everyone is going to want to drive 10+ hours to get to their next rotation but if you can, I recommend it!

Yup, paid for and secured. The rotation I got was actually my second choice; my friend has one in March and I was trying to line it up so we could split the driving. I looked at taking the train but it would be 48+ hrs. So I’ll likely fly unless someone else nearby is going and wants to share the load.

I am very beholden to my to do list. I made a comprehensive list of tasks I need to do to be ready for the midterm on Monday. I finished that list today, and I don't know what else to add to it— but I feel weird finishing studying a day early because I know all my peers are spending the whole weekend studying. But I LOVE finishing a to do list.
So my rave: vet school isn't as overwhelming as I was expecting it would be????

That’s great to hear, @HorseObsessed! I love completing a to-do list. Sometimes I will write something I already did on the list just so I can have the dopamine rush of crossing it off. 🙂

At least when I was there, people were pretty good about those with cars helping out with adventures for everyone else. It's definitely not a city with significant public transit, though there's also always Uber!
