Another happy-GRE-practice-test post:
I just got a 670 verbal/720 quant on a (kaplan) practice test!
I had been sucking really badly on previous practice tests (getting in the low 500s for both sections), but I spent a ton of time on vocab and quant problems between now and my last practice test and it's definitely paid off! I finally feel like I can actually realistically expect to get a decent score on the GRE, and I still have 2 more weeks to practice and memorize vocab before taking the actual thing.

Also, very happy for the Chilean miners too. And the weather has been super nice out, lately.

I know the plan is for the shift leader to go last. I can't wait to see the videos on YouTube!

According to the BBC article about it, the guy from the top was supposed to go in, make sure it was safe, then go out to make sure it was safe as well, but the first guy to come out was already harnessed up and ready to go by the time he got down there. Not sure what went on in between (whether it was agreed that he could just go first or he just went regardless).

Also, that capsule looks barely large enough to fit anything into. They must be standing all scrunched up in there and it's a damn good thing none of them appear to be overweight!

Wow, TT. Your participation on this forum has been awesome. Truly. You have sorta become synonymous with the Student Doctor Forum for me. I think we should change the name to the Twelvetigers Forum, at least until you get into vet school. And, frankly, after all of the help and support you have given all of us, if you don't get admitted this year, I think a huge group of us forum members should march to the admissions office of your choice and DEMAND that they let you in!

Most of us have been stockpiling torches and pitchforks since last year so we're good to go on that front.

I was watching the Chilean miners on the news last night. The area I'm living made the news because of our rich coal-mining history. I learned all about it growing up. I have a lot of respect for men who do that type of work. A man the interviewed on the news said that whenever he stepped into a mine, he was never sure if he'd make it out alive.

Yay miners! 😀

Just got my acceptance letter from Michigan State CVM! Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀

Yup yup --- I've been workin' away on the catapults - and I've been brushin' up on my ninja skills too. They're not gonna have a choice.

CONGRATS psilo!

1. psilovethomas - CONGRATS!!!!! Early acceptance must be awesome!!:highfive:

2. Hooray for the rescue and amazing health of all 33 miners from the Chilanian mine!! Amazing footage. I watched CNN until they brought the last rescuer to the surface last night. Simply amazing! 😀

3. Today, in o-chem lab, I was dubbed a 'rock star'!

Grats! But how'd you manage that? Did they accept you to 2015 and you deferred or did you go with an MBA/DVM program or can you apply to certain class years with Michigan or what?

It's the early admittance/vet scholars program. They'll finish the last year of undergrad and, pending good grades, will start with the rest of the c/o 2016.

Right?
Correct. I must finish my BS and keep at least a 3.2 🙂soexcited🙂 and complete 8 honors activities (can be an honors course or honors option).

CONGRATS! Just got my letter as well, and it appears the SDN is 2 for 2 in Vet Scholars admissions 🙂
Woot! friend me on facebook-the link is on my SDN profile under the contact info tab🙂

I just found out that my favorite muffins at all time from the university coffee shop(cranberry orange) has only 2.4g of fat :biglove: Now I don't have to feel so guilty about eating them. They're FANTASTIC.

Nothing as exciting as those acceptances, congrats btw, but I just got my shift covered Sat. night so I can participate in a Native American healing ceremony, and get an individual reading. I'm a white german cracker but have always dug that kind of stuff. It will be my first.

That sounds way cool, Squibby! Tell us how you liked it afterwards. I'd love to hear about it.

How did I miss that?? CONGRATS!

Now onto my rave...

My vet school app is going in the mail today. :xf: that my grades and GRE are good enough for them to have a look at my awesome supplemental. Now I can relax and focus on my midterms!

my daddy sent me a present! A gourmet, seafood dinner via "lobstergram!" two of the little guys are currently crawling around my fridge, and there's all sorts of other yummy goodness in there too! I'm so excited for dinner tonight, i've been in major seafood withdrawal since i left new hampshire! Five months without seafood is wayyyy too long! :d

sooo jealous!

Bunch of raves!

- Last night was the volunteer appreciation thing for one of the places I help out at. One of the pharmacists gave me a big hug after talking about me on stage for a bit and said she didn't know how they would have made it through the summer without me. The person from the hospital part I help out in also mentioned me while talking about one of the girls she was giving an award to and said that I was a tremendous help. I nearly started crying. Its great to feel appreciated. 🙂

- Biochem prof dropped the question he asked on the exam that he did not cover in class, giving me an 85% on the last exam, and an 89% in the class overall. Seriously could pull an A out of this class which is hilarious (to me) since this is the more in depth "for majors only" class... and I am not a biochem major.

- I'm famous! lol. Okay, not really, but people around our department now recognize me as "you're one of the people on the website!" Somebody put me in this video about "what is veterinary medicine". I joked around with some friends that I should email the schools I applied to, link the video and say "I don't know if you know this but I'm kind of a big deal." Dunno why that made me smile but it was neat to see myself on something important (to the school that filmed it).

Yay!

- i tied for my highest grade in the class for my first ecology exam! (92!!!!)
- i got a 25/25 on my animal behavior exam!

considering i've got so much other crap in my life right now, this TOTALLY made my week. such little things give us such great pleasure really...i can't believe that grades made me so happy 🙄

Got a 98 on my Virology Exam!!!!

Working at the vet school booth at the NC State Fair this morning, spending the whole rest of the day there with friends (I see a lot of delicious, terrible-for-you fair food being consumed in my future), and heading home for Fall Break tomorrow to see family, boyfriend, and my DOGS!!! And I'm not studying for a whole nine days straight!!! 😀😀😀

Wow. You get a break NOW? That's awesome. Enjoy!

560 verbal and 740 quant on my GRE's!!! Super ecstatic with the quant, a little disappointed with the verbal, but the percentage should still be pretty high! 1x the charm! 😀😀😀😍😍:soexcited::soexcited::claps::woot::banana::biglove:

Congrats NStarz!
I'm taking it in 12 days and am also hoping for the 1x the charm result.

:clap::clap::clap: WAY TO GO!!!!!!!
:clap::clap::clap:

Thanks guys!!! I'm hoping those are good enough to get me into vet school :xf:

NStarz, CONGRATS! That is an awesome score!

IIRC, you're GPA was >3.7. With a 1300 GRE, >3.7 GPA, and vet exp., you'll get in somewhere!👍👍

Nice job, NStarz! There's one less hurdle you have to worry about. Bet it feels good to have that one over with. And it's good for 5 years, so chances are excellent that you will NEVER have to see that test again for any reason. 👍

Aw thanks so much guys--you're super awesome. 😍 Almost makes up for the fact that my mom and I had a huge fight tonight because she doesn't realize that I am a science major and that helping her with her job is not as important as my full-time student one. Grrrrrr....

Early warning grades for gen chem II are out. He assigned either B or D. I thought for sure I'd have the D, but he gave me the B. AH HA. I WILL get you, gen chem II! 🙂
Yes!

I never thought I would say this, but I am falling in love with my Chem II class. Hopefully my positive thinking will get me a B (I scored too low on the first exam to pull an A)!

I'm usually more of a ranter, but I actually have a rave today! I just got a new guide dog puppy to raise last week (he is a little older... started by another raiser and then transferred to me). I am always nervous taking them to work (school) for the first time not knowing how they will deal with all the people, noise, and expectations of laying quietly by my desk during class... but today went really well! He wasn't perfect, but he did great! And I know every day will get better from here! He is lucky #7 for me, and so far I feel really lucky that I get to finish raising this guy!

I have a rave today. I helped with three patients today all of which had some weird complication with surgery. The first one had previously stopped breathing while under dexdomitor sedation the week before. So I was really nervous while doing its dental today (we did not use any dexdomitor) but he did great. The second patient was a husky mix who did not have any signs of anything wrong but once under anesthesia we noticed he had a slight heart murmur and he had some funky stuff (that is the technical term) going on with his femoral artery. You could see the pulse in it and when you felt it, it felt like a waterfall just continuously flowing under the skin. It felt like there were rapids and whirlpools in this dog's femoral artery...it was really creepy. The dog was crytorchid too; luckily the side it was cryptorchid on the femoral artery was normal. The third patient was a kitten who had a very weird twitching/almost seizure-like reaction to ketamine. We gave it diazepam and decided to not do the surgery today for the little kitty and she went home just fine. So 3 patients with weird complications and all 3 went home doing well. That makes for a nerve-wracking but rave-worthy day!! 🙂

I just found out that the property owner where I trail ride my horse is not planning on hunting this year, which means Khalila and I get to keep on truckin' this winter!

I found out last week that I got the high score on the biochem exam! That made me so happy... but it made me happier when she announced it and one of the professors in the bio department (who is working on his PhD I think; he is actually taking the class with me) muttered, "Wow!" under his breath.

I bought a Nikon D3000, a DSLR, today! The price tag was a little hefty, but after not having a camera in over 2 months and having been disappointed in the photos my point and shoot was taking, I'm 100% happy with my purchase so far. Also, my wonderful mom is helping me finance this as part of an early Christmas present.

At the sale barn today, a bull tried to jump out of the round forcing pen. It didn't, thank goodness (would've jumped out right next to me). It's the little things... right?

Louisiana State just calculated my GPAs on my status check, and they are a LOT higher than what I was expecting!! 🙂
