I got 60 (yes 60!!!) extra credit points in Genetics lab today for knowing Disney songs. Amazing.

Yes, yes, YESSSSSS!!!! I took the GRE today and got a 600 V and 770 Q!!!!!! This is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to me! I wanted to kiss the test proctor but I settled for a high-five. I upped my last score by a total of 180 points and I couldn't be happier 😀.

FatCat, that is awesome! Congrats! Sounds like a terrific early Christmas present to me 😀

Yesterday my boyfriend and I went to cut our own Christmas tree at a family owned farm. It's up and decorated and I spent some time last night reading a book on the couch with it all lit up. Also, my truck (and I!) handled the off-roading like pros. Well, maybe I didn't but we made it out alive and well, so that's all I care about 🙂

Last week of classes starts tomorrow. All that stands between me and winter break is a chemistry lab write-up, a typed data table, two quizzes, a (nearly complete already) project and finals. For winter break we'll probably get to go down and visit my boyfriend's family in Dallas, which is always fun. It would nice to know about an interview NOW so I could plan but whatever. I'm trying not to think about it and stay positive to end this semester on a good note.

My dad is being released from the hospital on the 8th! 😀

Yay 😀

Today I got some hands-on experience at the vet clinic. We fixed 6 ferals for free. I got to restrain, give SQ injections and I even got to try drawing blood on a kitten (I sucked... lol). I know that sounds like nothing... but I had very little hands-on experience until I went away this summer, and this is my first time back in the vet clinic since I went away. It was great 😛

Nice going!

I love the sound of rain on the roof.

Finally got a suit today. I'm not in LOVE with it, but I do like it. After trying on a bunch I just came to the conclusion that I won't be totally happy with how I look in any suit because I'm not a tiny girl. That and the fact that my body proportions are so effed up that my pants are two sizes bigger than the top. But whatevs. I got some spanx too. It's all downhill from here!

But, this is a rave, so, yay for having a suit =)

I got some spanx too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE spanx! I never thought of wearing them with a suit though, I usually only use them with tight fitting dresses. Love the idea of wearing them with a suit!

Congrats on buying a suit!

I bought a bridle for $9 on ebay tonight... if I don't like it I'll sell it for $10 😀🙄

Haha well thanks for making me feel better about them! =) I got them just to kind of smooth things out under the pants and because I had a serious panty line going on. Also, I found that I don't really have a choice but to sit up straight when I'm wearing them so it will remind me to have good posture during my interview!

So...fussing over my Molecular Genetics grade and whether or not I'll be able to pull a B out of my behind...when one of my classmates so kindly tells me to go check out the grading scale...

Best of luck. I know Mol Gen at OSU blows. I speak from experience. The only class I hated more than Mol Gen was Biochem. *shudders*

I'm so happy tonight. Found a handful of good articles for my paper that's due Jan 4th for my Masters... I'm a third of the way done and things are finally looking like I'll get it done. 😀 (After this week's depressive news, I needed something positive... badly)

I'm also so excited about this upcoming weekend-- for Christmas for my b/f's daughters, we're surprising them with adopting hedgehogs. I know very little about the little critters but I think I'll be more excited to the new animal addition to our home (we're adopting them from a lady that does rescue in Columbus... I'm a big supporter of animal rescue so this is even more of a plus)

Thanks =) MolGen has been the thorn in my side this quarter. I took Biochem last winter and although I got a worse grade in that class than I think I'll get in MolGen, I still think I dislike MolGen more. Ugh. This is the last of my "hard" re-req's though. I have to take my second physics next quarter and then I'll be finished with pre-reqs. Hopefully the vet school likes me enough and my MolGen grade won't matter as long as I get a C. Blehhh.

I went to the Starbucks here with a drive thru, and it took a really long time. I didn't mind, since it was time spent dancing to the radio and not studying, but the barista gave me my latte for free since I had to wait! Wooo! Little things in life!

I got a 17/20 on my second chem quiz!! This after my first quiz I didn't study for and got a 4/20. I can definitely argue my case up if need be, since this brings me right to the line for a B. I'm so happy now 😀

Got nearly all of my syllabus information for next semester and started to plan out weekend visits with the boy. Long-distance relationships in vet school aren't the easiest, but they're definitely possible! 🙂

Us too.

We start 1/3 and end 5/27. Seems like a marathon to finish up 1st year.

I hear ya. It's crazy how fast time has gone this year! But all the same, every time I see a fourth year heading into clinics in the morning, if feels like it can't come soon enough!

I less than 24 hours I will have completed my second bachelor's degree!

I can finally see the mobile version of SDN, which means I can actually see a list of threads instead of just one at a time.

On an unrelated note, we have a cat at work who is recovering from chemical burns to her skin and eyes from being deliberately doused in bleach. Why is this a rave? Because the folks who did this to her were apparently the world's dumbest sociopaths. They tried to set her on fire after soaking her in bleach. Since bleach is obviously not flammable, she is likely to make a full recovery.

After a weekend full or rants... (my first migraine and my friend's dad passing away, all while I'm trying to cram for exams)... I have a rave! When I go home, mom wants me to go to the shelter with her and help her pick out a new cat for the family. One of the reasons why I was dreading going home is because Christmas just isn't going to be the same without Susie. I haven't gotten used to her not being around because I'm rarely home... and apparently, neither have my parents. I hope they're making the right decision.

I got a 38/40 on my molecular genetics bonus report!! That's 38 free points! Which means...I have an 88% in that class going into the final! I can hardly believe it! Therefore, all I need on the final to keep a B in the class is a 52%. I'm not confident about a lot of things, but I'm pretty darn sure I can at least do that. If I want to be a little more ambitious, if I get a 74% on the final, I can keep a B+ in the class, and if we want to talk about things that are JUST on the edge of possibility, a 96% on the final would give me an A- in the class. Totally not holding my breath for that one, but I can definitely shoot for the 74%!

Awesome!!! 🙂

Two classes down, three to go! And classes are officially over. As I walked out of my last environmental ecology lecture ever, there was actually a rainbow.

Microscopy exam this morning went well. It could have been a lot worse. I think I nailed 4 of the 5 sections, but I have no idea about the last one. It was supposed to be on nucleic acid shadowing techniques, and instead, the professor (guest lecturer for that topic) focused almost entirely on DNA, and not a lot on the actual Kleinschmidt technique. 😕 It was far more suited to a genetics exam than an exam on microscopy techniques.

Congrats Ellie!

My rave: I took my herpetology final this morning, and am finally through with that class!

I have no idea where to post this lol so off topic...

i went over to the pre-allo forum today to procrastinate a little more. i decided to look the penn medical thread....their section is SO organized!! i think one SDN administrator made a thread for every medical school and put it in its own file. Wow, i cant imagine keeping up with hundreds of schools!!

Then, i clicked on c/o 2014 to see how first year med students thought about their program. I clicked on the last page but realized I really wanted to look in the middle to see if they were just as stressed as me mid semester....the last page took me to page 2 THOUSAND ___ hundred!!! i was like WTFFF hahaha. i couldnt even skip to the middle!!! my choice was either front page, last page, or clicking page 2398... hahaha so crazy!!

so to make this post fit a little more in this thread, i'll say that i'm so glad we have a close pre-vet/vet family on sdn!! i cant imagine if we had thousands of pages, i would never be able to get to know you guys!!

ps-i also saw a persion with 18,000 posts and only a member for 2 years. *shock* where do they get the time?!?! and we thought we were addicted to SDN! hah!

Done with finals! And as I was leaving campus, I saw a kestrel hunting.

I think I may be more excited about the latter.

I had intended to make my first post in the Lurkers... thread, however I feel that the most appropriate location is here. That's because I have to rave about all of you. SDN was more than a life-saver for me this cycle, which is my first. I was able to come here and find any and all information about schools in an organized and accessible manner, and everyone sounded so friendly and supportive and in the same boat. I wanted to join earlier but I didn't have anything to say, I was so in awe of all of you. So here we are.

Thanks for being so awesome! 😍

I totally agree! Everyone on here is so great, and it is awesome being able to talk to people that know what this process feels like, because they are going through it themselves. I was also a lurker for awhile because I didn't think I had anything to contribute, but sometimes having someone to commiserate with is the best contribution! 🙂

I am so blessed to have so many people that continue to support me and do everything in their power to enable me to pursue my dreams.

:biglove:

Everyone should have this in life....

SO FAR.. having a GREAT WEEK

Woke up wednesday to a phone call from OSU with an I-invite!! Then Aced my Animal Behavior Exam on Thursday.. Checked by grade on blackboard last night, got an A in Advanced Cell Bio..

Now I just finished writing the most satisfying HATE evaluation for my teachers at the medical campus for the most unorganized immuno/micro course on the face of the earth.:meanie:

Ahhh what a day:laugh:

LAST DAY OF COLLEGE CLASSES! until vet school at least...

I survived 4 exams in 4 days.

I KICKED BIOCHEM'S BUTT.

WHOOO.

That's one 60 gone from my vet school application!!! Bye bye general chemistry :biglove:

Just got my final grades back today and officially passed my first semester of vet school. Whoop!

We had our ortho clinic yesterday. I was attempting to diagnose patients based on their referral forms, did pretty well. The last one I was so sure I was going to be right...a 9 month old german shepherd who has had previous hip pain, now limping on forelimb. Referring vet said the lameness resolves with time, but then will recur. Lightbulb went off in my head that said Panosteitis. It ended up being something completely random that I had never heard of, but the orthopod said that it was definitely one of the top 3 things he had on his list of possible diagnoses. Made me feel good.

Also, went out last night with some friends and had a really awesome time. YAY!

After 3 grueling weeks of small animal medicine, I get to do community practice.

Also, it snowed here all day today and it was sparkly, powdery snow. And now there is a 2-hour delay for tomorrow 😀.

I love ponies in the snow <3 and I really love coming back in and drinking marshmallow mocha coffee and eating Chunky Soup and watching the snow outside. Takes my mind of my impending interview scariness!

Having a tough time, so thought I would post here something nice.

My husband just bought me this for Xmas:

Maybe not your style but I think it's just wonderful. 🙂

WELCOME BACK TT 😍

Got my final mark back for Invertebrate Biology and I'm happy with it. I love how my honours supervisior just walked into my lab and volunteered this information to me... and then went on a rant how I'm too precise and neat when I write essay questions :/

Cute purse, TT! And welcome back!

My four closest friends and I held our Secret Santa last night. Since they are all guys, I was really curious what I would be getting, but I think the gift is perfect! They're supporting of my goal to be a veterinarian, so the guy who drew my name ordered me a gift from Kodak. He got me a cutting board with a still frame of this puppy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqYiPx8wbnM

In the traditional motivational poster style, underneath that is written "VETERINARIANS", then "They see you on your back and all they want is to cut off your balls." Or something to that effect.

I'm so excited for it to arrive.

I <3 my veterinary mentors. One of them called me yesterday to wish me luck on my interview and to tell me to call him when I get out and let him know how it went.

The other one, I walked into the clinic unannounced today and asked if I could hang out and he was more than happy to let me. I got to help with two spays, a declaw, a bunch of appointments, and some blood draws. He also gave me a confidence boosting power talk.

It was nice to be reminded of why I'm doing this and to recall why all these nerves are worth it!!

Just finished by biochem final and I'm fairly sure I aced it and I had an A going into it! 😀 I'm so glad it's over, I spent a lot of time on it. All done with finals.... on to biochem II next semester.

Good luck to those still taking finals and congrats to those who are finished! Time to take a break (by break I mean soley focus on this forum and obsessively checking the mailbox, email and admissions portals)
