I was just discussing this the other day, how a "health" professional recommended someone I knew to start drinking wine before they go to bed to relax, and whether that was irresponsible advice without knowing more about the person's background. This person had a family history of alcoholism, and started drinking because of this advice.

All advice is potentially dangerous I guess.

😀 Where's my sarcasm sign? (I only can laugh cause I have a sitch like this). Recovering alcoholics are just progressing human beings. Or regressing. Depends on your standards.

I think I get migraines from brain over-use. I should probably get rid of the Coke habit. (I drink small amounts every so often cause there's nothing as smooth and delicious as Coke. Besides chocolate milk. And water.) Oh rain rain, go away. I need you to so I can appreciate/miss that you're gone...

Today I managed to hit the ulnar vein on a merlin! These little falcons weigh about 150g so their veins are teeny meeny - but I got it on my second try! I've never hit something so small before. 😀

I get to do something awesome fun at work for the next week! I'm building a wooden model of this fire station for our fire house special dinner! I'm so excited! It's so much fun!

I'm going to go look at a horse tomorrow who I think looks GREAT. Totally green but looks fantastic on the video free jumping and in pictures and is the EXACT age, height, gender, conformation, etc that I want. Fingers crossed that the horse in the video/pics is the horse I think it is!:xf:

(I haven't said much on SDN but since posting that first picture a while ago I have been on a crazy horse search and feel like I have looked at like 75,000 horses and since I'm not in a hurry at all, I haven't been stressing about it very much but good lord there are a bunch of crappy horses out there!)

The parasitology final I was unprepared for this morning wasn't bad, I definitely passed.

My boyfriend will be here in about 12 hours, I haven't seen him in 3 weeks and we have lots of exciting stuff planned for this weekend.

Our last 2 finals aren't for another week so I get a few days to breathe.

I gained 5 pounds since school started. I lost those 5 pounds and then lost 8 more pounds. So I've lost a total of 13 pounds from the heaviest I've been in vet school. This is also the lowest weight I've been at since having my "adult" body.

😀

Still waiting for the snow to hit here in Corning this afternoon. Could use a little of that white stuff! You always get more in Rochester than we do here, though. Enjoy!

Just found out I have enough points to get a C in organic chemistry! Any points I get on the final are only going to add to that!!!! YAY!!!!!

I mentioned in the UPenn thread the other day that I was going to start training for a half marathon over winter break in order to get back in shape and take my mind off the vet schools... I also said I was going to start a blog about it! And BOOM! I did it!! I'm pretty proud of myself for actually making the blog and publishing it because now all my friends and family will be looking forward to reading it - which means I'm committed! I can't back out! AHHH I have to get in shape!!! I'm excited 😀😀😀😀

Heck yeah! Congrats! :highfive:

The hubs and I cut down our Christmas tree today. There is a Christmas tree farm right outside of town. You cut down the tree, and they wrap it in the net for you. They give you hot chocolate and cider while you wait. It was fun, and decorating it was a nice distraction from finals.

It's finally snowing in Rochester!! YAY!
I live in Baldwinsville (NW of Syracuse) and my boyfriend has been BEGGING for snow since October lol... hopefully we will get some that sticks soon! Are you applying to Cornell?

Found a cheap, pet-friendly apartment that has great reviews from a friend. Quite excited to check it out and possibly have a home for the spring. 😀

👍 it was so nice this weeked... so sunny! I'm not even considering applying to Cornell right now. I'd have no chance there. It SUCKS that it is our in-state school. For me, at least!

I moved here not too long ago and have kept my FL residency just for that reason. I still applied to Cornell (I made my bf pay the cost bc I TRIED to explain that I wouldn't get in, but he wouldn't listen, so he got to pay lol) just to make him happy, but I am definitely just waiting on the rejection letter lol. It does suck that it's the instate here. I have even LESS chance getting in being an OOSer.

If you are both in-state (NY) why are you thinking that getting into Cornell would be harder than getting in OOS? I think the odds are about one in four for IS at Cornell.

I am an OOSer. My residency is still in FL. Maybe I wasn't very clear, sorry... I kept my FL residency so my IS (UFL) would be a little easier to get into than if I was IS here (Cornell).

Had to give a talk for the graduate program I'm in and then meet with my thesis committee members. Both the talk and the meeting went really well. They agreed to let me take the Animal Nutrition course I need for vet school next semester while I prepare to defend my thesis... which means that I don't have to pay to take an online course/find someone to proctor the exams/etc!!!! 😀

You're taking UW's animal nutrition, yeah? I think it was like... 303 or something? I liked that class a lot. Both of my undergrad advisors taught it. It's pretty easy, too! 🙂

I applied last year, didn't get in. Plus, their stats are just WAYY higher than where I'm at. I know it's an average, but I just feel like it'd be a waste of money for me to apply. The stats for OOSers at the schools I applied to are not quite so out of reach for me. That's my reasoning behind it all.... may be bollocks, but that's what I keep telling myself...

Got to watch a Standardbred get 'scoped on the treadmill this morning! He was going 32mph at a pace. It was absolutely WILD to watch. Watching the vets/staff "train" him to use the treadmill first was nerve-wracking - I thought for sure he'd end up flying off the back at one point or another but he did just fine. Such a cool experience.

😍 standardbreds 😍

I'm home! Hanging out with my brother- he's almost 22 and autistic. No one is ever as happy to see me as he is. When I showed up last night his face lit up with pure joy.
This first semester of vet school was awesome as far as academic learning, but everything really worth knowing I've learned from him. So glad to be home for a while😍

That is incredibly sweet. 🙂

Seriously, I think I just got diabetes.

I got to close a dog after emergency surgery today!

Yay me!

Christmas for the last few years has been hell for me. To make a long story short, Christmas eve used to consist of meeting up with friends, going to church, eating massive amounts of food and staying up until 1am with our friends, socializing. When I moved away when I was 11, Christmas has been blah. Nobody wants to go to church service with me. Decorating the tree is a FIGHT. Nobody wants to help me decorate gingerbread houses or take me to go see the Christmas lights. Bascially, my mom works, my grandmother cooks, my dad and grandfather watch massive amounts of cable and my brother plays video games in his room. I end up sitting on my butt and I start getting anxious after about a day. Naturally, I hate going home for the break.

A couple months ago, I talked to my parents about how much I miss how Christmas used to be.
I called mom yesterday to chat. My dad had offered to take me to the Christmas service on Christmas eve this year. My dad is not religious. He pokes fun at people who go to church on a regular basis. For my dad to offer to take me to the service on Christmas eve is very touching. As soon as I heard that, I burst into tears. It has been a while since someone has done something that touched my heart.
Thank you, dad!

My boyfriend has it!!! He was a little disappointed that the glow in the dark part is very clear to see with the lights on, but he has gotten so many comments on it. 😀

BTW we love woot. I especially love wine.woot 😛

We both have woot shirt collections.

I don't think the glow in the dark is super obvious, at least. I love it though

:biglove: Yay for Christmas miracles 🙂 So nice!!

Rave: I just found about 5 of the beads that my parrot pulled out of my captive bead earrings (on different occasions) while I was cleaning the house. He thinks it's fun to pull them out and throw them. Yay for cheap thrills!

I've always been a huge sucker for Christmas. I love everything about it! The only reason my house had Christmas lights these past 2 years was because I took the time to buy them and put them up myself. My husband doesn't care either way, and he's had an especially crappy year (lost his job, had to have stomach surgery, sleep issues, depression, dealing with crazy wife applying to vet school, etc etc)

So, this year I'm working 12-8 at a clinic (I was a teacher the previous 2 years) and just haven't had the time to put up any of the outside decor. My 3 cats are breaking the indoor decs like it's their job.

I came home from work last night to a beautifully lit up front yard. 🙂 The hubby put all the lights up for me!! I know it took a lot of time and effort, and he certainly didn't do it for himself. I actually teared up as I pulled my car into the driveway.

It's the little things in life, sometimes.....

Done with semester one of vet school! Woo Hoo!!

Also, I just slept for five hours straight. In the middle of the day. And I loved every second. Proof that non-trads can adjust to the life of a student?

Now where's that bottle of wine.....? 😛

YESSSS!!! We just finished, too. I honestly have never felt so happy and proud of myself in my entire life!

Shoutout to Scb44f for being an awesome study buddy and making it through our first semester! 🙂

Ditto! This semester has been so humbling, but I actually passed all of my classes and I couldn't be more proud. I can't believe I actually accomplished this. It kinda makes me want to create an "I just finished my first semester of vet school" dance... Not sure what that would look like, though. And would it involve my histology book in some manner?

Got to assist my vet in spaying my 8-month old cats today 😀 Super fun. My one cat took forever though, because the vet opened her up and she had more visceral fat than either of us had ever seen in a cat. He had to search long and hard for her uterus-every time he thought he was pulling it up it turned out to be another fat roll. Finally got her done though! Said kitties are staying at the clinic tonight and were drunk but recovering well when I left them!
