i tried to get my hair cut here this weekend, it desperately needed a trim. tried to do the responsible thing and look places up, and somehow ended up at a place called super cuts (?) unintentionally. strangest cut i've ever had - said just want a trim to freshen the ends an inch, and 13 minutes later, she was done! literally just went around the bottom with a pair of scissors...my previous life experience had led me to believe that these places at least did a simple cut correctly, but nope. no harm done though thankfully. last time i try that in raleigh hahaha :smack:
NC native here and yeah, chains like Supercuts and Great Clips will give you exactly what you pay for. My mom and I strategically plan for trips to Northern Virginia to shell out $40-60 for very fabulous haircuts. There are some great places in the Triangle, but I'd personally be wary of any place that charges less than $30. I'm spoiled.

Was it the one in Crossroads/Cary area? If so - I'm usually a cheap haircuts person and that place was scary intense/quick for me! If not, well, guess a bunch of them are like that.

I've been trying to pay a little more attention to my hair now that it's more than a couple inches long, but I find it really stressful...
Yup that's the place haha

Today I had a "student" whose day job is airline pilot for Cathay Pacific, and just wanted to get reacquainted with flying small planes.
It was really fun to "teach" a 25 year pro.
He actually had a little trouble with his landings... a little tougher when you don't have technology telling you exactly what to do😵. (not to mention he is usually sitting 50 feet above the ground) but he was REALLY smooth!

Was working on my sutures tonight and they are gorgeous. So proud of myself, especially for the apposition I got on my SQs. Totally gonna rock this spay! T-9 (8ish) days!
Yeah you are! That's the attitude 🙂

My husband and I picked up our puppy Fred today!!! He is a 16 week old Basset Hound and he is the sweetest little guy!! He is already following my husband around like they are best buds which is adorable, but also sad bc I want puppy love too!

His paws look huge!

OMG they ARE!!!!! My best friend has a Basset and we dug through some of his puppy pictures tonight and Fred's paws are like double his! Fred is also so much more wrinkly!!! He has good genes hahahaha

I have the opportunity to do research in Europe if I don't get into vet school this cycle. Glad I finally have an awesome plan B so I won't be too upset if I get rejected (I'll still cry, but only for like an hour instead of a week 😉)

Surgery went really well, my intradermal sutures didn't totally suck. And my presentation went great with some really good feedback from my evaluators - including the cardiology resident which was great considering I was doing a cardio topic. Now if only it'd stop snowing long enough to get my patient out the door (another snow day today...)

Are you going to Murdoch? Congrats 🙂
No there's a veterinary program at the university of adelaide that started about 7 years ago 🙂
Unfortunately not avma accredited at the moment but can only hope for the future! This forum has helped heaps 🙂

Anybody got any tips for stethoscopes? I've been looking at the littman cardio 3. Know it's pretty expensive and I probably won't need such a good scope since I'm a vet student newb. But felt it might be good to get a high quality scope now since it'll last me a long time 🙂

do a search. There are quite a few threads on this 🙂

Last weekend, my husband and I moved to a house closer to the area that I want to work and closer to my horse. It will be a bit of a drive for the last few months of school but I am in love! We moved from a 650 sq feet with no space to a normal size small home with a beautiful kitchen and a winter garden already planted. Almost 7 years of marriage and we are finally living in a home with space to breathe. It is not helping with the senioritis! 🙂

Doing extractions and flaps and blocks and other fun dentistry things all day today. 😀

Also, aww, SDN now notifies you for spending way too much time here.

A dual rave. I had a job interview this weekend and got a nice offer from a fairly nice clinic. It's location isn't ideal, but doable. I'm still hoping to hear from another clinic, but I don't have high hopes there.

As a smaller rave: I bussed to the other city (long drive, plus bad roads, plus not familiar with the city = didn't want to drive myself), but couldn't drive to the bus depot because our driveway hadn't been cleared yet. So I had to get a cab to the bus depot. When I got back tonight, my landlord had left $20 in an envelope under my door to cover my cab fare because he felt bad that the guy hadn't cleared our driveway in time.

After a really busy morning (for a 1 dr practice) I had a free lunch waiting on me. And then I was called by a vendor at NAVC and told that i won their $100 gift card.

I really needed that. I'm gonna buy my husband something nice for valentine's day

The hotel I'm staying at has an alarm clock with one of those vibrating things you put under your pillow to make sure you wake up. Pretty sure I'm going to need to buy one now. I've never woken up so quickly in my entire life!

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 pretty much sums up my first 10 seconds this morning.

I've had three patients throughout my fourth year that were intense cases. Last week, I emailed the prof that adopted one of them and she sent me a picture of him looking so big and...cat-like that I almost teared up. This little guy almost didn't survive twice, and here he is, all grown up. I'm friends with the second patient's family on FB and get to see him in some of their updates and it just makes my heart swell with happiness. I've had my share of heartbreaking cases this year, but these ones make it worth it. Cheesy but true :biglove:

I did half a laparoscopic spay today! It was a young, pretty thin dog so it was sort of on easy mode, but man that was fun. Totally like a real life video game instead of surgery.

you should probably not use that as a selling point for clients some day... 😉

Currently on day 5 of migraine but my classmates have been so sweet. I had several people check up on me this weekend. Lots of people have been offering possible solutions or just listening to me rant. Today I had to leave early because the pain is pretty bad. When I went to my car I found one of my friends had left me a big thing of valentines candy and a card. The support really makes it a lot easier.

Mom bought me my first box of chocolate cream Cadbury eggs for the season. [emoji1]

Cadbury's mini-eggs have come out on the market for Easter and I couldn't be more addicted if I tried....:biglove:

I get missing those foods. And american chocolate tends to be a lot less chocolate and a lot more milk/sugar.

But you can still get your hands on this stuff if you really want to.

That's definitely true, and I'm not being serious. But when we first came over in 2001 there were barely any British foods, now there's finally a good selection and it seems like it's gonna be taken away. Naturally anything we order online and ship has a good price markup, which I can't blame them for but it's frustrating, and it isn't just about the chocolate it's about just foods we miss in general. But honestly, I realize it isn't that big of a hardship!

I was an expat in Asia. I still can't get the majority of the food i got there. So I get it 🙂

Yeah, I moved from the US to Scotland for a couple years and I really missed American food. So, I completely understand. There are just some things that you really want and can't find in another country and it really sucks, especially if any of them are your comfort foods...

i guess you are a glass half full person.
I would put this in a rant thread,"gone are the days when tax paid = 0"..

Haha, well I would, but when you get like $2500 back on your tax return because you were a full time student and only earned half a year of ****ty income, and paid a ton in student loan interest, it doesn't feel too bad that I paid a small amount in taxes this year.

Trust me, that will be my rant next year.
