Yeah, but the people still died because they couldn't control their car, even though they tried to. I heard the audio from the call they made, and it was scary as eff. And many people seem to agree with me, because their sales took a major hit after that. Anyways, I wouldn't want a car that everyone and the mother seems to have. I'm sure they are great cars, my ex had a scion and he really liked it, it was a cute little car. No one in my family has owned Toyota, so I can't really speak for them as a company, other than what I've seen in the media. I'm not saying that they are unreliable, not capable..etc, the safety factor is what bothers me.
There are many cars out there today that drive well, get great gas milage, are way more versatile than a Toyota, and are safer, so I will continue to stay away from them.
All cars sustain frame damage, even from a minor accident. You or you body shop probably just couldn't see the damage without dismantling the body. Once a car is in an accident, things just don't fit the same anymore and the next hit might just total it. That's why people pay for car fax reports.

No, they dismantled the car and the frame was unaltered. It was done because they thought they were going to total it and they expected major frame damage. Everything fits just fine and my car runs well and hasn't had any issues since the accident almost 2 years ago.

You can stay away from whatever you want. The majority of the cases with sudden acceleration were from people mistakenly hitting the accelerator though. Just because "everyone else stayed away" isn't a good reason to say something is true. Just like a lot of people think eating gluten free is the answer when there's nothing supporting that unless you are gluten sensitive like celiacs disease.

They are plenty safe. But I'm going with objective measures - I usually do my research with things like consumer reports. As a company? They respond pretty quickly when there is an issue.

You are entitled to your opinion. But when you make blanket statements online, expect people to respond 🙂

I bolded the one statement because that's totally personal preference and I get it. But how many people have subarus? I can tell you it's a lot down here.

My point is that even though you may not see it, things may not totally be the same as before the accident. The panels may be intact and not damaged, but there may be some structural/connection problems you cannot see until you are in another accident. My SO's Dad worked for Infinity and said this is definitely an issue for any car involved in an accident.

True, there is no evidence that gluten free diets are the solution to GI upset/disease, but it has been shown that there are safer cars than a Toyota Corolla, so????

As a company? They respond pretty quickly when there is an issue.

Unless you live in Denver, CO, or Seattle, WA, I doubt total Subaru sales in your area came anywhere close to that of the Toyota Camry alone..Toyota is the most popular brand in FL.

I NEVER said there weren't safer cars. But it is a VERY safe car and very much above average. I feel like you have a personal bias, and that's absolutely fine (as I have repeated multiple times) but using media hype to support your view is dangerous. Actual research? sure. But when I've done actual research on cars, I haven't found them to be unsafe. and the problems reported by the media were found to be user error.

Just because camry sales are high here doesn't mean subaru sales aren't. Plus we see a lot of out of towners here often. I see a lot of subarus. I think they are great cars, FWIW.

I'm not using any media hype when I compare car safety. I know your Toyota saved your life, and my Subaru saved mine. I think Toyota's are safer than some others out there, and I would put my family in a Toyota a thousand times over before I would ever put them in any of the Big 3. I'm not saying Toyota's are not safe, I just believe that there are safer options out there, and I will use those options instead. For example, http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/toyota/corolla vs http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/honda/civic-4-door-sedan vs http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/subaru/impreza. These tests are independently conducted and involve no media input. All models are in the same class but their safety sets them apart. And I will continue to choose the safest car I can. Toyotas are great cars, but sometimes can't compare (in my eyes).

the way you initially described them was very negative. Just go back and look at what you typed.

I think Subarus are great cars. I also know that civics come back again and again as the safest car in their class in many different reviews. I don't think Toyotas are the best cars out there, but I also think they are great cars.

Body shops have a frame machine that measures all the angles for the frame exactly and then can pull it back into shape. It is sensitive to the Nth of a millimeter. I am assuming that the car was put in one of these to determine that the frame was straight. Hopefully it was.

it sure was. It was a real concern considering the type of accident.

My rave: After I finish this workshop submission and one short assignment for Animal Communication, it's smooth sailing until spring break. We leave Friday morning 😀
 
Snow day today! Just in time for the one test I did NOT want to take. And less then a week until I bring the gf to New York 😀. Just have to get through this 7 day run of working all day everyday (which started yesterday...)

Really now? Yeah, I can't think of a time I have ever done that. I am a very innocent player who is always looking for harmony and peace in my games! Deception is the FARTHEST thing from my mind 😀

I don't know how I feel about this. While I am all for those who do not fulfill the needs for animal welfare being taken to course, all the accusations I have seen against them are from animal rights groups like PETA. I simply cannot taken anything they say seriously. My family has been in a similar situation and so I get where the circus is coming from.

PETA may get the most media coverage but they're not the only ones against the use of wild animals in circus acts. It has been banned in the numerous European countries for years, and there are already a bunch of partial or full state bans in the US.

Good to know. I didn't know that, actually. Do you know if the bans only effect elephants, then, since they will still have their other acts?

I just don't want them to be forced to do something like this if the allegations aren't true. But it does make sense to go through this if they can't even continue to do the acts legally.
 
My surgery patient is absolutely defying my expectations. I figured he'd be a euthanasia on the table, but he came through the surgery with flying colours and looks great this morning. He's not out of the woods and we're not sure if there's metastasis, but I just can't get over how well he's doing.
 
I signed a lease for an apartment I haven't seen with a fellow soon to be vet student I haven't met. I went up to see the apartment and meet my roommate last week, and the place is stunning, so much better in person than pictures and it's in phenomenal condition. And my roommate is so nice and we have so much in common. I'm floored by how well that turned out.

Had my first rabies vaccine today and didn't die. Whoo! 😀

As someone who is terrified of needles stabbing me, this is a big victory for me 🙂

It was through the school actually! They gave us options to either get it done elsewhere before March 1st, or now, and since I forgot all about it, I decided to just let the health center do it. Plus they come to the vet school, which is wonderful for lazy me 😛

You have no idea. 😛

I would definitely take out a bit more than you think you will need for this first year (IMO), there always seems to be club dues, books to be paid for, electronics to get, dissection kits and gloves to destroy, and of course the late-night "I'm going to eat my feelings until they go away," food or coffee runs.

I almost feel "lucky" for having gotten post exposure vaccines a few years ago. I am having titers done soon though, just to be sure. Luckily that is covered by my current health insurance.

Same, I got the series last summer (just in case) and it was all covered by my insurance.
 
My rabies titers are positive! No rabies for meeeeeee. Also, it's 55 degrees outside. Amazing. And, coincidentally, 55 days until clinics! EEEEEEEK
