Just an FYI, in PA it is no longer legal to shoot your dog, unless it is in acute need of euthanasia with no means of getting it to a vet in time (example given was overnight in an area with no 24hr vet). I imagine other states may have similar laws?Yeah... that’s rough. Not defending your coworker, but I’ve found that a lot of people in this field have to make jokes and make light of death in order to keep the compassion fatigue from burning them out. I went to a club meeting about this, and the way the dr explained it to us is that it’s morbid and would never happen around clients, but it keeps us alive at the end of the day.
Edit: I wasn’t sure so I wanted to check this before, but according to the AVMA Euthanasia Guide, gunshot IS an acceptable method in some instances. Which is... hard to think about. But different people have different connections with animals than I do...
