Interesting... that's not what I'd understood from the printed material I'd found. That may work in that case. Still hoping the hearing test works out, because if I can't justify it to Access it won't matter.
Yea absolutely 100% go a route that you know will be allowed first. But keep this in your back pocket just in case, because if it’s an option and if plan A doesn’t work out for some reason, you know that it exists. Hope everything goes well!

I've been looking for a stethoscope to help me be actually able to hear anything beyond faint dah dums. I'll have to look into this Eko thing.

I’ve used digital stethoscopes before and they’re really great. But with digital-only ones like the one Littmann makes it’s frustrating because there can be a lot of noise and you can’t turn it off and just listen. The Eko lets you do either digital or analogue which is good, and they often have sales so it’s around $150 or sometimes less I think. DrMooreStudentVet on Instagram and Facebook is a student ambassador for them and I’ve talked to him before about it. You could try reaching out if you have questions about it before getting it.

If you get one, lmk I would love to try it if you are willing
So neither of you are here, but they gave our entire class ekos for the white coat ceremony. They are super cool and really awesome but after a while most of us stopped charging them and never really use them because I at least want to hear things on a normal stethoscope first before getting enhanced. I should probably charge the thing though, and use it

That’s what’s nice about it though. If it dies, you still have your regular stethoscope in analogue mode.

Look at me, acting like an Eko shill lol

I'll be there in December!

How do the Ekos compare to the digital Littmanns?
Having used the digital Littmann and then done a lot of research on the Eko, the quality seems to be very similar as far as the benefit you get of a digital stethoscope. However, the Eko is a good bit cheaper (about half the price), and it has the benefit of being able to turn it off and use it as an analogue stethoscope. So if you feel like you don’t need the amplification or recording feature and you’re getting a lot of noise from, say, a dog panting or an owner petting their pet, you can turn off the digital feature so all of that isn’t amplified as well. I think that in and of itself makes the Eko a lot better. If your Littmann does you just don’t have a stethoscope. If the Eko dies you still have a perfectly good stethoscope until you charge it again. I also found that digital stethoscopes don’t work well on some patients where there’s an added gap between their fur and their skin. Like really fluffy dogs. So being able to choose either analogue or digital is good.

I just need to put in a quick plug for Eko's customer service! We'd called and left a message on the weekend saying that we had some questions. They called me back this morning, bright and early CA time, answered all my questions, are sending me an email with more detailed answers to some of the things I'd been asking about, and gave me a discount code. There's also a 30 day money back guarantee, no questions asked, if it doesn't work for me for some reason. Even before trying the product I have to say that I'm impressed with the company so far.

Ok this kind of customer service that goes above and beyond is rare and speaks volumes. Nice.

As a counter to my post in the rant thread, I have an update.

My mentor/PI asked for more help today to change a bandage on an external fixator that I helped place on Monday (it was a very long day but totally worth it). And said afterwards he wasn't sure what he would do without me, complimented me for doing so well in surgery on Monday said I did really well and was very steady and reliable and that I picked up everything fast 😀😀 He also said he was super grateful for me being able to go to the grand rounds yesterday and apologized about the bus fiasco. Then he asked (jokingly... I think) if I could be his tech for the next year until forth year because I did so well 😍😍😍

Anyways today is 5,000,000 times better than yesterday and I'm super pumped that I'm making a good impression

I have a job. I've known off the record for a while now, but I got my offer letter today so now it's official. It was totally a "who you know" situation - I actually missed the job posting entirely, and I never did get interviewed... have yet to meet the boss. But I worked there before, two years ago, and the staff members who are still there who worked with me gave me glowing references, so I was the first hire from a posting I never even applied to! rofl

I'm really happy that things are finally starting to look up for you! Congrats on the job!

Second place only to raspberries in my world 🙂
Please come to my work. My coworker has about 20 feet of raspberry bushes at her house and she cant even find enough people to give the raspberries to so they’re all just rotting now. She already brought in a couple huge bowls but my GI system can’t handle all these berries. It’s awful at this point.

Nectarines are my absolute favorite, but raspberries are up there! I'll occasionally make a homemade raspberry jam danish braid for people when I'm feeling particularly grateful for something they've done for me. (Raspberry jam swirl brownies are also on that list!)

I have a decent patch myself, and they're really proliferating this year. Not just the number of blossoms, but so many new plants springing up around the established patch 🙂

I took Step 1 on Tuesday (so unbelievably glad to be done with that) and to destress afterwards I walked over to the animal shelter where I got Kelsay Olivia. One of the people asked me if I was familiar with them and as soon as I said yeah, I'd adopted my cat there 5 or 6 years ago, an employee who'd been there when it happened turned around and shouted out "oh my god, OLIVIA!"

I always feel a little silly going full cat dad when I know they see so many cats come and go but she remembered exactly how it happened, which room KO was in, everything. I used to stop by every so often but she had moved to a different location and I'd gone back to school so I wasn't around as much and she said she missed getting to hear updates <3

Apparently the shelter retired the name Olivia after her since she was such an unhappy little head case and had such a hard time finding her person, but she's also one of their shining examples of a cat choosing its owner, so. I think things turned out alright.

(My girl had been at the shelter for a really long time, she was 6 or 7 years old with big old bald patches and a cone because of her allergies so a bit of a hard sell. I wasn't even allowed to have a cat where I was living so I was just there getting my cat fix, as was my habit - I'd said hi to everyone in that cat room and sat down on the windowsill when KO climbed out of a little covered bed in the corner, looked flat terrified for a good 5-10 seconds, then trotted over, made it clear she wanted to be in my lap, and stayed there for an hour and fifteen minutes. During which time everyone working there stopped in to tell me that they'd never seen that cat leave her corner for anyone, they'd never seen that cat on anyone's lap and I was taking her home, right? Which of course I wasn't, but then yeah, I was, because within two days I'd convinced my landlady and they'd processed my application in record time and I even took off work early so she wouldn't have to wait another night in the shelter not knowing I was coming back for her.)

You can't tell a cute story like that and not post a cat photo.

Post is useless without pictures

My best friend got back yesterday after not seeing her for 2 months. We may have sat in McDonalds for 4.5 hours- could've kept talking but decided to quit starving her husband any longer (she was supposed to take him food back) [emoji23] It was the best 4.5 hours I've spent in a long time and was way better than the plans I originally had for this evening.

I will take all the raspberries!!!

I am. But both countries are big enough that I could conceivably be closer to some parts of it than someone from another part of it. I'm not in the Yukon or anything 😉

I always forget what people outside of the NJ tri-state area consider “close.” To me, anything over an hour or two away is practically on a different continent.

This is one of the cutest things I've ever heard and I may be crying a little

Meanwhile, anything less than 6 hours away is a reasonable short visit trip for me...

You crack me up, fam. 🤣
It sounds crazy, but ask anyone from this area of the country and they’ll say the same thing! Towns are so close together that it only takes 15 minutes to get most places. 30 if you’re really desperate to get somewhere.

I can drive 30 minutes and still be in the same damn town

That’s what’s so different about this area. A town in south jersey is only about a square mile or so. Some are even smaller. If you go on google maps and look around Illinois you’ll see spots of a large town or a city with roads leading to other large towns, and for miles in between it’s farms and a few really small towns. If you look at south jersey it’s a bunch of small towns butting up against each other to form a big mass of people. So when you grow up there, you have in 10 square miles what most places in the country have in 10 times that space.
