I feel this! I'm naturally super thin. Before being diagnosed with celiac, I dipped below 100 lbs and I'm 5'7". After my sister's boyfriend died, the same thing happened to her. Stress related non-eating and being underweight for health related reasons really sucks. And people would tell me all the time "oh just be happy you don't have to worry about your weight". The thing is, you DO have to worry about your weight, just the opposite. You have to work hard to keep on weight.
I tried to go running with my greyhound but it was like exercising with one of those parachutes
It’s too bad you don’t live in OK. Addy will outrun me every time. I once gave her to my friend who likes to run (because they we tried me her and our dogs running together but I am the limiting factor in that equation), but even then Addy’s just a freaking champ.
She’s a skinny long legged goddess and I am jealous.

Tobias can and will outrun any dog he interacts with. He's super ****ing speedy. But try to take him jogging? Nah he ain't into it. He was built for speed, not distance. I wanna try and get him into it a bit more though. Greyhounds are known as couch potatoes but he never gets on the couch. He has his own bed in each room of the house lol. Something I think would have been really interesting/helpful would be to have guest vet speakers talking about some of the more non-traditional vet jobs out there - things like pathologists, lab animal vets, USDA inspectors, nutritionists, radiologists, zoo vets, etc. Being a vet isn't all just dogs cats horses and cows 🙂This is a rave/inquiry post!
I am super excited that a small group of individuals and I have created our universities FIRST Pre-Vet Club (hurray!) and will be holding meetings starting in the Fall. As the President, I am facing the task of coming up with some discussion topics, workshops, and events to coordinate and bring minds interested in the field together. I'd love to set the foundation for a fun and interactive club for future veterinarians that are/will be attending our school when I leave and pass the torch on.
While the other officers and I have come up with some ideas to pursue while we get this going, I thought I would reach out to this community to get some input. If you have time, I would love your thoughts!
#1) Were you in a Pre-Vet (or similar) club in your Undergrad? If so, what things did you enjoy the most about it and what was absolutely a flop?
#2) What would be a really cool experience to have in this type of club?
#3) If you are a current Veterinary student, what would have been a club experience you are having now that you wish you had seen in your undergrad?

The one pre-vet club meeting I made it to was when a zoo vet was speaking. Had...a pretty big impact on me 😀

I appreciate the insight! I agree organization in that scenario would have to be key, I couldn't imagine 6 random people showing up at our clinic to try to "help"
Thanks for the feedback! Getting Skype Q &A's sounds like a fantastic idea as well as brutally honest mental health conversations. I don't want to run off my future colleagues but I think its a big conversation to get started early. I also fear low turn out, but that is why I am searching for ideas from others now, here's hoping it's successful!

Resume reviews shouldn't be too hard to organize I would hope. I think Q&A's with representatives is a great idea, not sure how reasonable it would be to ask them to come visit us but maybe organizing via Skype could happen! Love the ideas, thank you!
The way I’ve seen it done if someone couldn’t come in person is they would do it via Skype like you said, and put the presenter up on a projector. Then set up the camera facing the room and students could be seen and ask questions that way. As long as you ask in advance and cast a wide net, you’ll definitely find someone willing to meet with you either in person or via Skype.
What a great idea! I think a wet lab would be great for getting our "feet wet" as a group
