This is wild to me!
The dog I saw was a month post-op, off Pimo and furosemide, and its left atrium had begun to revert back to normal size. I was honestly taken aback.

Apparently some pet insurance will cover the cost now as well!

I complain about school a lot but our open heart surgery program is really effing cool. Got to work with one of the dogs a bit on cardiology this week.

For people curious:
It's great! The team is from Japan that UF brought in so that was really interesting, though it's hard to get patients into UF. My hospital prior to vet school has had had clients go to England and have the repair done at RVC while they come back and we manage post op. We had one Cavvie go to London in 2024 when UF's program closed to referrals! It's really just about curative when it goes well which is a wonderful thing for some of these young CHF dogs. I love cardio

I met the man yesterday. He is truly a genius. We seem to have 1-2 a week it’s really picked up here.

I took my Golden to VECCS to be a volunteer for the echo lab. Told the cardiologist from CSU that if he found a mass on her heart, I would be his 8am appointment the next Monday. He told me he would guarantee me a spot 🤣 Then we discussed open heart surgery is really hard and expensive.

The back story: I inherited the Golden from a dead aunt. Then took her to a POCUS lab after graduation to learn POCUS where we found two splenic nodules 😶 So from then on, I POCUS my dogs once per month

It's so cool to see the results! I once saw a dog several months post-op from having the surgery done in London, and the heart had reverted back to a normal size

It’s wonderful to see some positive energy, and having such a supportive family makes all the difference when navigating the stress of vet school applications! It is interesting to see how this kind of community support is now being measured in studies on do corporate wellness programs work Do Corporate Wellness Programs Work? to prove that mental health and social safety nets are key to professional success.

Has anyone been following the story of Punch, the baby macaque at a Japanese zoo? :arghh: It sounds like the troop is starting to accept him!! But the first pictures/videos I saw were not something I needed to see as a pregnant lady lol.
Reddit may be an absolute hellhole at times, but I'm glad it exists today. Another macaque finally hugged him! Made my day.

I got a job working for my clinical skills center recently, and it's been way more fun already than I expected. We are designing and building 3D practice models for clinical skills labs like dental extraction models, castration models, etc. It's super cool and has been a fun creative outlet, plus reminds me that I actually enjoy computer stuff lol

Was doing my usually pre-bedtime doom scrolling on Reddit and came across a nice little update on Punch! Some dingus was bullying him and two other adults in the troop stepped in to protect him! Warmed my heart and I can go to bed happy now.

He's honestly lucky to have not been killed yet. Japanese macaques are a very hardcore species and even within well established family troops, there is murder. I hope things continue on this trend for him because UGH he is so precious

I think if he hasn't been killed yet. It's a pretty good sign. Unfortunately hazing is a big part of determining where you stand in the troop.... This would have happened even if he had his mom eventually. Especially if she was a lower ranking female.

It’s insane how much more of a functional human being I am since committing to a school. I put my UMN sticker on my water bottle and it was like a switch went off in my brain—I immediately answered/sent a ton of emails and texts that I’ve been avoiding for months, and now I’m even starting to plan ahead again. I had no idea how much the stress and uncertainty was affecting me but looking back I’ve really been a wreck. It’s so nice to actually feel like a person again!!

It's been like the first 24 hour period in four months that I haven't cried (except some tears of joy). My nervous system actually does not know the difference between being chased by a bear and waiting for vet school decisions.

I felt this so much. I got accepted into my in-state at the beginning of February and since then, it's like everything in my life has been going right. I finally got a job (graduated in December and was unemployed for 2 months😅) at a zoo that I interned at, I got some amazing petsitting gigs that are helping so much financially, and I'm just SOOOO much less stressed.

When is it again?
June 25 to the 28

i was going to move apartments that week, but i can push it back or make my partner do it while i go to the conference. are you perchance thinking of attending?
