Hey, Everyone!
So, I was applying to Roseman Dental and I noticed on their FAQ that they carefully look at your last 30 semester hours in the sciences. As a graduated non-science major (who was a science major, freshman year) I find this particularly good for me as I did horrifically poor freshman year. Mainly due to family issues and adjusting to university life. Now, my question(s) are:
1) Whether or not there are other dental schools that offer the same?
2) By last 30 credits does it mean any years prior to finishing my undergraduate degree, as long as the total of science credits equal 30?
Furthermore, I didn't want to post two threads and I've seen a few threads similar to this, however, my circumstance was a bit different.
I went to my universities committee interview and the lady that interviewed me was extremely rude and did not want to include some of my dental experience because it was broad. She specifically wanted to focus on my experience here, which granted, is very good but it was my abroad experience and mentor that really made me pursue dentistry. My mentor is a graduate of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (top notch medical/dental school) but works in a 3rd world country due to family reasons.
Now, the interviewer explicitly said that she did not want to include this experience and was focused solely on the negatives of the country and my application. I even felt that maybe she was borderline biased to my race, but that's circumstantial.
She did not even offer any suggestions for improving myself as a candidate or encouraging me to apply to dental school even though my stats are relatively competitive. I felt that she was not going to write a strong letter and would rather prefer having the LOR's done individually via interfolio. I told her this and she said "most dental schools require a committee letter if your university offers it" and I have read this on many FAQ pages. My questions for this are here:
However, because I graduated in May 2016 and the timeline for the letter was going to be a bit late for me personally, would it still be okay to apply with individual letters?
If dental schools ask why not the committee letter? Could I say I graduated 2 years ago, the timeline for the letter did not match my personal timeline? Is there anything else I could say?
Thanks in advanced!
TL;DR summary just look at the questions in bold. Thanks!! 😀
