Hi,
I'm non-trad re-applicant (27 yr old), currently waitlisted at 2 MD schools. It's unlikely I will get into these schools this time around. I'm kicking myself for not applying to any DO schools. I will definitely be applying to DO schools in the upcoming cycle. Problem is that I have alot of different things scheduled for this year and it'll be very difficult for me to take additional courses or get a research job. I'm wondering if I can get into a DO school in the upcoming cycle with my stats, as-is:

3.42 undergrad GPA, 3.35 post-bacc GPA, 3.34 BCPM GPA (originally graduated with a Finance degree and took all the prereq science courses as a post-bacc at local university)

31Q MCAT (10 PS, 10 VR, 11 BS)

3 years volunteering at Vanderbilt Hospital

30 hours shadowing an MD physician (I will definitely shadow a DO)

Several years of various community service type work - homeless ministry, youth mentorship at local church, science tutor, etc..

Appreciate any input and thoughts!

So applying as soon as AACOMAS opens up is the main thing? I've started volunteering at a small clinic that serves uninsured patients just to get some insight on the different aspects of our healthcare system. But as mentioned before, I would like to focus my time on other non-med related things in my life for rest of the year. I would like to quit very soon as I feel like I'm pretty much forcing myself to make it to these shifts just so that it looks i'm doing "something" for medical school. I'm encouraged by your responses that I have a decent shot at getting in, but also am afraid that i'll be asked what i'm doing during this year off to prepare myself as a med student and future physician...

quit worrying so much, just apply. The earlier you apply, the better chances you have. The whole volunteer thing is just so you understand what you are getting into. If you have don'e that, then take a break. Easy

you wouldnt even need to apply first day. just dont wait for the last second, but obviously earlier is always better. your stats are fine for every do school though.

Thanks! So I could basically just duplicate my AMCAS application unto the AACOMAS app, adding nothing new, and still have a good chance of getting in? I know this makes me sound extremely lazy, but I just don't have the time to do anything that will significantly improve my application for the upcoming cycle 🙁

Probably, AACOMAS application is pretty straightforward. The only section that requires any thought is the personal statement, for which I'm sure you could use your AMCAS one.

Then, most schools send out secondary applications which again are pretty simple but may ask the questions of "Why DO?" and "Why X-COM?"

Anywho, good luck. Your stats look pretty competative and you should be able to get into a DO school without much problem.
