Hey guys,

So I'm pretty bummed that I didn't get into dental school this cycle. I have a 3.4 Overall GPA and a 3.2 Science GPA, both should see a slight increase to about 3.5 and 3.3 respectively by the end of this semester. My DAT was 19 AA, 17 in Sciences and Quantitative Reasoning, 26 in RC, and 16 PAT. I understand I should retake the DAT first and foremost. I also didn't get my apps in until October at the earliest, which was another dumb move. But I didn't take the DAT until late August, after I had completed Ochem.

It was almost a long shot for me to get my application out this cycle, because of NCAA athletics and transferring mid-way, my schedule was not as linear as typically pre-health students.

I have a dental assistant job lined up for the summer, and would be fine with continuing through next year.

I've considered master's programs for health students, such as the Boston or Nova Southeastern ones, that can get you admission into their school.

I've also considered retaking the DAT and trying to get in this upcoming cycle, getting my apps in by late June.

What are your recommendations?

Definitely retake the DAT. Your GPA isnt too bad, you dont need a masters. Do a post-bac, go to an undergrad and take a bunch of science courses.

With your current GPA if you score a 21AA or higher and have no section below 18 and apply broadly youll have a very good chance of getting in at least one school somewhere.

I think your biggest problem was how late you applied. How many schools did you apply to?

I had pretty similar stats…3.4 GPA 3.3 sGPA and an 18/18/19 (with nothing lower than 18) applied second batch and had two post december interviews (Midwestern University-AZ and USC) and have been accepted to one and waiting to hear from the other.

I think the biggest thing when you are an average applicant is using your EC's and your personal statement to really make you stand out.

Good Luck!

I applied to 7 schools, but not all at once and got later as I went. I guess I didn't fully understand the importance of applying right away, but looked at the application due dates and figured I would still have a shot as long as I applied before them
