So I took the MCAT last year and work so much I can't find a lot of time to study without completely eliminating my social life. I am scheduled to re-take the exam August 15th, but I would feel better with a September 4th test date. My AMCAS is verified.

Stats: MCAT 24 (no studying, just took it) 3.4, URM and disadvantaged status. CA resident 1st time applicant

Re-take or apply as is?

You didn't provide nearly enough information. We don't know what your full application looks like, nor what type of schools you are shooting for (PS. this belongs in WAMC's).

Also you didn't tell us how you averaging during your current preparation, or how long/well you've been preparing, and how much higher you realistically think you can improve your score if you take an extra 2 weeks.

That is a very low MCAT for MD schools, probably even for URMs, you are already late if you haven't applied by now, and you would be VERY late if you took an Aug 15th or September MCAT, so it would probably be better to study for a few months, retake it in January, and apply next cycle, early on. By better I mean give you the most options and chances at the best schools possible. If you are insistent on applying this cycle, apply to low-tier MD schools and DO schools, and see what happens. Just plan to attend any school that admits you, meaning don't apply to any school you wouldn't attend, or would rather try again next cycle than get into this cycle.

Agreed. Now, you can also cut out your social life for a month until your Aug 15th test and hope Adcoms consider your application (assuming you get the score you want), or you can take your time and apply next year to give yourself more options.

24 is kinda low I think, maybe retake and apply next year to increase your chances? Cause if you think aboutit, if you don't get in this year, you also wasting a year AND ton of money anywyas.

Retake. Even as URM, we'd be doing you no favors by admitting you if you can't handle medical school.

Take the MCAT cold just because you wanted to have a social life shows poor choice making, so keep that rationale to yourself.

Apply with the best possible app, even if it means delaying a year.

I am assuming I can bump up 2 points each section. Studying content until Sept 4th and then taking full lengths on weekends and revire

I work 60-70 hour weeks; I am entitled to some sort of a social life. I have made up my mind.

Thanks for the advice.

i was verified last month

You said your AMCAS is verified. Did you already select schools in your AMCAS application? If so, I think that might classify you a re-applicant if you waited and applied next year. Maybe someone with more expertise knows the answer.

Regardless, you should definitely retake with either the later MCAT date or wait until January.

I would be a reapp if i applied last year. I already made my decision. Thanks for the added advice.

Good luck with that attitude in medical school.

This isn't medical school.
Again, thanks for the advice.

You're fine for podiatry or Caribbean.[/
You don't know what I am fine for so shove it. I am not going to argue with you. You want to do that, go get married. I am done with this thread. I have already made my decision. Thank you for filling your empty time with smart ass remarks.

Obviously, I am going to have to dedicate time to this. Not everyone has mommy and daddy to pay their way. I will figure this out.

What? It's just a statement. Nice fit of rage you got there. Now go run along and enjoy that social life you're so proud about.

Threads on this board always end up like this. Which is why I rarely post.

Are you deaf, dumb or stupid? I ALREADY MADE MY DECISION so why keep responding to try and get a rise out of someone? Let things just be.

Go find someone else to bother

From what it looks like in this thread, you didn't like the responses you're getting because they damage your ego so you get all defensive and retaliate. You'll do fine in the future i assume

I'm pretty sure you're the only one getting pretty combative when everyone here is helping you out

No, I don't like people making smart ass remarks about where they think I belong after I already made clear I made up my mind what I am going to do. Don't keep telling me what I think or how I feel. That **** pisses me off. My situation isn't all that unique.

Newsflash, your comment wasn't very helpful. I only had a problem with your remark.

Keep your assumptions to yourself. That is what I have a problem with....

So why did you create this thread? If you're not interested in getting comments you don't like (truth hurts), you can ignore them

comments are fine. Assumptions and snide ass remarks, not so much.

Sounds like it's not a mind worth accepting to medical school.

Entitlement does not make a doctor. Hell, it doesn't make a burger flipper either. You need to readjust your attitude, because you'll get eaten alive by the competition. Your incredibly poor performance on the MCAT shows for it (below the national average, I believe?).

No one's raining on your parade because we're a bunch of sadists. It's because we couldn't encourage your to go through with this cycle in good conscience.

When in the hell did I say I had a problem with everything EVERYONE said? There is always a smart ass in the group. And It is not my time of the month, and that is none of your goddamn business. Why do simple, thanks no more responses needed always spin into this sexist or ---ist bs responses?

Entitled may have been the wrong word, at the time, I only worked and slept. I chose to spend a few hours a week I had left not doing that. Either way, I am prepared to figure out a way to do that so stop assuming; you do not even know what I chose to do.

Because people are attracted to sex and gore.

Since this is a train wreck waiting to happen, it's gore.

Again, this is SDN at its finest. and you know that because you know what I have decided to do. Oh, wait. You don't.

I managed to get a 24 with almost no prep. I should do fine with prep.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP. GOODBYE

If you're going to be secretive about what you chose to do, then you've got no right blaming people for reaching their own conclusions. Yes, we assume the worst. Not because we're so awful, but because this whole thread stinks of excuses.

I am not making excuses. Those were reasons, that I clearly stated needed to be addressed. What you assume is your problem.

Why are black women always looking for a fight? That escalated way to quickly and you snapped at people trying to help you.

I am not even all black and what does race have to do with this?

Again. Why is this thread still going?
Because you're not taking the advice everyone gave seriously or wholeheartedly. Look at these AAMC core competencies that you're clearly lacking right now.

Social Skills: Demonstrates an awareness of others’ needs, goals, feelings, and the ways that social and behavioral cues affect peoples’ interactions and behaviors; adjusts behaviors appropriately in response to these cues; treats others with respect.

Oral Communication: Effectively conveys information to others using spoken words and sentences; listens effectively; recognizes potential communication barriers and adjusts approach or clarifies information as needed.

Resilience and Adaptability: Demonstrates tolerance of stressful or changing environments or situations and adapts effectively to them; is persistent, even under difficult situations; recovers from setbacks.

Capacity for Improvement: Sets goals for continuous improvement and for learning new concepts and skills; engages in reflective practice for improvement; solicits and responds appropriately to feedback.

That last bit of advice was great and racist. I will try to remove my blackness although I am sure it had nothing to do with the way I responded.
