Re-take MCAT or settle with score I have for this cycle

So I took the MCAT last year and work so much I can't find a lot of time to study without completely eliminating my social life. I am scheduled to re-take the exam August 15th, but I would feel better with a September 4th test date. My AMCAS is verified.

Stats: MCAT 24 (no studying, just took it) 3.4, URM and disadvantaged status. CA resident 1st time applicant

Re-take or apply as is?
 
You didn't provide nearly enough information. We don't know what your full application looks like, nor what type of schools you are shooting for (PS. this belongs in WAMC's).

Also you didn't tell us how you averaging during your current preparation, or how long/well you've been preparing, and how much higher you realistically think you can improve your score if you take an extra 2 weeks.

That is a very low MCAT for MD schools, probably even for URMs, you are already late if you haven't applied by now, and you would be VERY late if you took an Aug 15th or September MCAT, so it would probably be better to study for a few months, retake it in January, and apply next cycle, early on. By better I mean give you the most options and chances at the best schools possible. If you are insistent on applying this cycle, apply to low-tier MD schools and DO schools, and see what happens. Just plan to attend any school that admits you, meaning don't apply to any school you wouldn't attend, or would rather try again next cycle than get into this cycle.

Agreed. Now, you can also cut out your social life for a month until your Aug 15th test and hope Adcoms consider your application (assuming you get the score you want), or you can take your time and apply next year to give yourself more options.
 
24 is kinda low I think, maybe retake and apply next year to increase your chances? Cause if you think aboutit, if you don't get in this year, you also wasting a year AND ton of money anywyas.
 
Retake. Even as URM, we'd be doing you no favors by admitting you if you can't handle medical school.

Take the MCAT cold just because you wanted to have a social life shows poor choice making, so keep that rationale to yourself.

Apply with the best possible app, even if it means delaying a year.

I am assuming I can bump up 2 points each section. Studying content until Sept 4th and then taking full lengths on weekends and revire

I work 60-70 hour weeks; I am entitled to some sort of a social life. I have made up my mind.

You said your AMCAS is verified. Did you already select schools in your AMCAS application? If so, I think that might classify you a re-applicant if you waited and applied next year. Maybe someone with more expertise knows the answer.

Regardless, you should definitely retake with either the later MCAT date or wait until January.

I would be a reapp if i applied last year. I already made my decision. Thanks for the added advice.

Obviously, I am going to have to dedicate time to this. Not everyone has mommy and daddy to pay their way. I will figure this out.

No, I don't like people making smart ass remarks about where they think I belong after I already made clear I made up my mind what I am going to do. Don't keep telling me what I think or how I feel. That **** pisses me off. My situation isn't all that unique.

Sounds like it's not a mind worth accepting to medical school.

Entitlement does not make a doctor. Hell, it doesn't make a burger flipper either. You need to readjust your attitude, because you'll get eaten alive by the competition. Your incredibly poor performance on the MCAT shows for it (below the national average, I believe?).

No one's raining on your parade because we're a bunch of sadists. It's because we couldn't encourage your to go through with this cycle in good conscience.

Entitled may have been the wrong word, at the time, I only worked and slept. I chose to spend a few hours a week I had left not doing that. Either way, I am prepared to figure out a way to do that so stop assuming; you do not even know what I chose to do.

I managed to get a 24 with almost no prep. I should do fine with prep.

If you're going to be secretive about what you chose to do, then you've got no right blaming people for reaching their own conclusions. Yes, we assume the worst. Not because we're so awful, but because this whole thread stinks of excuses.

That last bit of advice was great and racist. I will try to remove my blackness although I am sure it had nothing to do with the way I responded.
