I am in the process of reading through Cliffs bio, but as I read I feel that although I am becoming familiar with the material, I am not able to memorize it just by reading it. I hope I'm not the only one who has this issue 🙁

I was planning to go through Ferralis notes after I read Cliffs to memorize all of the key terms. Anyone have any tips or tricks that help with retention?

Im a biology major and the best way that i feel i learn bio material is re-writing the notes I read in my own words and drawing pictures to help me visualize what im studying.

i also highlight A LOT (almost to a point where the words I DONT highlight stick out more than the ones I do highlight 😛) so i can remember things i studied by associating it with the color it was highlighted and where on the page it was written.

IDK if thats just a weird thing of mine, but its helped me through all my bio classes. im a senior so thats a lot of classes!

I'm using Cliff's too and I don't think it's enough to passively read. What I've been doing is reading a chapter and then going to the corresponding Feralis section. I then use that as an guide to make my own outline, which I've been including Googled diagrams in and my own explanations. It's definitely time consuming to put everything in your own words, but it's the best way to make it stick.

I agree with Mufasha. Supplement unclear concepts with another source and make your own notes. I supplemented Cliff's by using wikipedia on anything that was unclear and writing my own notes. Also do destroyer.
