thanks this is a cool link. i tried it last year but I don't remember what I got.
this year:
1 allergy & immunology 48
2 endocrinology 47
3 dermatology 46
4 gastroenterology 46
5 hematology 45
6 radiology 45
7 psychiatry 45
8 preventive med 44
9 physical med & rehabilitation 44
10 pediatrics 44

weird

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with their evaluation. I don't think I'd want to do either of these!

Rank Specialty Score
1 urology 42
2 thoracic surgery 41

Maybe it's something I said about long hours. :p This test is way too long and bogus. :) I think I'd be more pediatrics, psychiatry, or family practice. And don't know if I'd want to do surgery or OB/GYN Kenobi, although the idea of delivery babies, hmmm...

Neat. Of the top ten that it recommended for me, I don't think I have any interest in any of them. The areas that have been interesting to me, show up further down the list at 13, 15, 17.

1 family practice 42
2 preventive med 41
3 occupational med 41
4 obstetrics/gynecology 41
5 nuclear med 39
6 orthopaedic surgery 39
7 psychiatry 39

10 general internal med 38

only one that appeals to me is EM

5 endocrinology 45
6 plastic surgery 45
7 thoracic surgery 44
8 pathology 44
9 emergency med 44
10 obstetrics/gynecology 44

This is a neat site, but I don't know about my results... I don't like psychiatry too much, and what exactly is "aerospace med?"

1 psychiatry 45
2 aerospace med 45
3 urology 44
4 orthopaedic surgery 44
5 neurology 43
6 physical med & rehabilitation 43
7 pediatrics 43

7 rheumatology 42
8 allergy & immunology 42
9 general internal med 41
10 neurosurgery 41

Well, it seemed to do OK compared to what I think I know - I want to do something research-heavy, specialized, non-primary care, non-surgical....so basically a medical specialty. And I'm very comfortable treating/managing chronic diseases, and I like thinking long-term. I'm not sure how neurosurgery got in my top 10.

Don't think so.

What happened to ophthalmology???

Cool site! But I'm not interested in the top 4 of the choices given me. Lot of surgery specialties, tho:

1 occupational med 50
2 pathology 50
3 neurology 50
4 hematology 50
5 general internal med 50
6 endocrinology 49
7 med oncology 49
8 neurosurgery 49
9 rheumatology 49
10 physical med & rehabilitation 49
11 otolaryngology 48

31 neurology 39
32 infectious disease 39
33 endocrinology 39
34 neurosurgery 38
35 cardiology 37
36 pulmonology 36

pretty neat:

Rank Specialty Score
1 otolaryngology 45
2 thoracic surgery 43
3 plastic surgery 43
4 pathology 42
5 neurology 42
6 neurosurgery 42
7 cardiology 42
8 hematology 42
9 endocrinology 41
10 colon & rectal surgery 41
11 pulmonology 41
12 med oncology 41
13 orthopaedic surgery 41

Based on experience, I'd say #2, #3, #6, and #13 are legitimate(though sophomoric) top choices. I've never experienced otolaryngology before... :p

This seems kind of silly - basing what med specialty you should go into strictly on things like work hours and how independent you are instead of, oh, I dunno, what fields you're interested in?

Interesting results...it say that I am well suited for surgical specialties. But honestly I have never seen myself as much of a surgeon. I want to go into pediatrics which ironically is at the bottom of the list. Here is my list.

1 general surgery 45
2 plastic surgery 43
3 orthopaedic surgery 43
4 ophthalmology 43
5 obstetrics/gynecology 43
25 pediatrics 36

Plus whats up with the same questions being repeated.

1 thoracic surgery 48
2 physical med & rehabilitation 48
3 nuclear med 48
4 hematology 48
5 nephrology 47
6 radiation oncology 47
7 med oncology 46
8 infectious disease 46

3-8 are dead on to my interests

1- I'm too old to do a surgical residency after med school

2- Never really thought about it-- unless they are talking sports medicine.

Fun site.

i dont' really think anyone would use these results to actually choose their specialty (for whoever says you should do what youre interested-of course you should)

i just think its kind of interesting to see how your responses compare to actual responses by those in the field. after all, you have to work with those people for the rest of your life

I'm not really interested in any one of these... and don't know much about these fields at my stage in the medical school. :p

That was a cool test. Altho I'm surprised infectious disease is way down the line since that's where my research area is right now.
Oh well, here are mine...although I don't think I've ever seen (in movies or real life) a 5'1 orthopedic surgeon before.

I am happy with my list:D Go Rads!

wow! how'd you guys get so many answers? i only got 9! I was thinking about general surgery, but I really wanted to go into family medicine or primary care. The one thing I said I would never do was plastic surgery. Weird.

1&2 plastic surgery 47
3&4general surgery 46
5&6 thoracic surgery 45
7 physical med & rehabilitation 43
8&9 preventive med 42
10&12 occupational med 41

5 anesthesiology 42

7 otolaryngology 41
8 urology 41
9 orthopaedic surgery 40
10 gastroenterology

Could not be anymore wrong!! The only thing that would interest me here is probably orthopaedic surgery. I easily get so grossed out with skin diseases that I know I would not want to be a dermatologist! I'd rather look at peoples innards than look at pustules...eeeww..

From all these responses, is it out of 50 then? At first I thought it was the percent similarity of your responses to physicians in those particular specialties (didn't see it specified on the site).. my highest was 40 for nuclear medicine.

1 radiology 47

I have absolutely no interest in radiology, and my preferred fields (EM and infectious diseases) weren't even on my list.
