I got this email from Wayne State.
"It is the decision of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Admissions Committee to place your application in our Alternate category for the 2012 entering class. All applicants in this category have been interviewed and their respective applications were presented to our Admissions Committee. Your application will be considered during the remainder of the application process and if your status changes, you will be notified via email and/or telephone. It is not possible for us to advise you of the chances that
you would eventually be offered admission. Individuals placed on the alternate list may get an admission offer at any stage of review when admission decisions are made. Individuals on our final alternate list will be considered for places that may become available during the summer. We make offers to approximately 40 candidates each round. Typically some applicants decline those offers and we will select applicants from our alternate list to fill the class."

A week later, I got a letter in the mail that said the exact same thing with an additional paragraph. The added paragraph was
"Applicants that have matriculated into any U.S. allopathic or osteopathic school of medicine during the present application year with be withdrawn from any futher consideration for admission by Wayne State School of Medicine"

At the moment, I am on the waitlist for Wayne. I have not heard back from two other US allopathic schools. However, I have an acceptance offer from MSU Osteopathic school of medicine. I have paid my deposit there.

Will this affect my waitlist position at Wayne State?
Or am I panicking or being paranoid?

( Did they add this last paragraph because now I am off the waitlist? or does everyone get that in the letter? )

That doesn't sound good to me but can't say for sure :/
Sounds like a bs rule though

It says matriculated, not accepting an offer of acceptance. Matriculate means you actually start class, not just paid the deposit.

They probably got an app from someone who is currently in an MD or DO school who is re-applying instead of applying to transfer schools, and they wanted to clarify that it's not allowed.

You ARE allowed to hold multiple acceptances until May 15, so you are fine.

Thank you for the clarification. Much more relaxed now.
