Just wondering what people think about joining multiple facebook groups for schools you've been accepted to. Is that poor form or, for some reason, ill-advised? I hesitate to join more than one of these types of groups but don't want to miss out on the fun, potentially helpful discussions. Not a big deal but just curious what you all thought. Thanks.

I would only belong to one, but that is my personal preference. No one is going to hunt you down and say you are in multiple fb groups... But the idea is that you join just one once you have made up your mind. It really is a C/O 2015 for X school group, so if you're not going to be in that class why join?

I don't see it as much of a big deal.

True, this would be ideal, but I'm having a hard time deciding (financial info should help) and am wondering if I could potentially get some useful information from these groups/get a sense for what the class might be like, which could help me decide.

is this even a serious question? well at least it acknowledges it is unimportant

Up next: OP asks SDN what he should have for breakfast.

Can't they see where else you have acceptances?

Joining a facebook is not a commitment it's a way of helping you network and gather information.

Adcoms can see from your AMCAS application where you got acceptances from.

I am against joining ANY Facebooks. There is just so much info that can be retrieved that is not the medical schools business.

My profound drug use, sexual exploits, late nights with Jack Daniels. Should I be worried?

LOL!!! No nothing like that I am just paranoid of the whole big brother is watching you.

I have a friend that updates her facebook with "Sex" via her iPhone every so often.

She was a sl** in high school and now works at Hooters. Not generalizing.. but go figure.

Does that count as an EC?

Facebook is the least of your concerns from Big Brother. But I don't understand why you're paranoid..unless you have something to hide.

Is this really true? I overheard some fellow interviewees say that the information about acceptances is only released to them in May.

Page 12 of the 2011 aamcs instructions pdf

The AAMC shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools adhere to AAMC recommendations. These data are shared as follows:
a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.

I have nothing to hide the point is I do not need a facebook to display my dating, education, city, family, outings with friends and families etc etc....and if I do decide to have another facebook it has nothing to do with medical school, so I do not need to combine the two.

Oh and I misused the term Big Brother sorry

+1.

My med school a bit got angry at me because I didn't want to join their group on my facebook nor did I want to open a Twitter account for the role purpose it was a "university requirement".

Bullocks! I'm about to get my liberation papers from the government in 4 days and will be graduating in two months anyways, why risk to have serial killers track you down slightly more easily and slice you into itty bitty pieces. 90% of why I use facebook is to play farmville anyways.

So many things about this post horrify me.

You know you can cancel those accounts when you're done. Nothing forcing you to keep them after you're done.

You dictate what shows up on your facebook profile. I have it because lots of my friends use it to keep in touch with each other for various events. It's definitely helped me so I remember when certain events/parties are on certain days. That and classmates so you can get in touch with them, too. Otherwise, what you do with facebook beyond that is up to you.

Why are you so paranoid about facebook? Get a grip buddy.

I have a grip, and I am not sure why you are answering when I was NOT asking you. I was asking the person that claimed it. Now I can sleep better because you told me I am paranoid and get a grip. In case you are not up to date on current events there are articles of people who have had face book bite them in the ass. Some of the reasons were trivial, and some of them were illegal. As for other comments I do not need to address people that are on the bandwagon.

Posting an upcoming study group on facebook to me does not make sense when most schools has a class email list and it can be sent privately. Knowing that Bobby's mom is in town for the weekend is none of my business. Reading that Suzie Q has 796 facebook friends is not going to help me pass my boards.

And worrying about events that transpired like you said isn't going to help, either. I mean, it's the internet.... nothing is private

You are right nothing is private, and I am not worried I just choose not to promote it for the reasons I stated. It is a luxary that does nothing for me, and I find it is pointless.

So many run-ons I cannot handle this many run-ons plus one misspelling that is not even phonetically spelled like that man what is going on.

For my master's degree, my school required us to "friend" the school's page in order to get updates in fb form.

My fb account doesn't even use my real name, and my birthday and location are also made up. Only those who really know me, understand who it it is.

'Preciate the responses, everyone. Even -- no -- especially the sarcastic ones. I know it is a trivial question and I deserve a little ragging for asking it. I just feel weird about joining more than one group but am excited to start to get to know my future classmates.

PS. StudyShy - your avatar is sweet.

I deleted my fb account about 3 years ago... have been living happily ever since 🙂. I didnt delete it for privacy reasons or any paranoia, i guess i might get one again if the need arises. At this rate fb will take over the world and I might have to conform to the stupid pointless **** people post.
