Hey all, I know that reapplicants are treated differently at some schools. However, if you are labeled as a reapplicant in AMCAS but haven't applied to that med school before (someone who chooses to apply to different med schools the next cycle), will that med school still treat you differently as a reapplicant? Sorry for the confusing question. Thanks!

I think you have to answer a question on AMCAS that asks whether or not you've submitted an AMCAS application before. I could be wrong, but if that's the case then AMCAS will label you as a reapplicant regardless.

AMCAS asks if you've applied for a specific school before when you add them to your application, not whether or not you've submitted an overall application before (unless they've changed it in the past year and a half).

Being a reapplicant was a big part of my application, so I made it rather clear to all my schools that this was not my first time applying. I did so because getting rejected the first time forced me to look outside the world of physicians and look at other careers, and I ultimately decided to come back and apply for medical school again.

How you're looked at will vary hugely from school to school. My current school had no issue with it... they've interviewed people again this year who were waitlisted last year (this was no my situation, as I I had not applied to this school the first time).

Another school I applied to waitlisted me the first time I applied, and accepted me immediately the second time. Another school I applied to rejected me both times post-interview. Another school interviewed me the first time I applied and waitlisted me, then didn't even offer me an interview the second time.

Instead of repeating this question I figured I would revive this version. mvenus gave some good information, but I'm mostly curious about whether or not you are considered a re-applicant if you applied to the year before, but this year are applying to different schools.

I'm formulating my school list and its important for me to know so I can figure out if I want to include more new schools or not.

The AMCAS has a blanket question asking if you've submitted an application before and then when you select each school, they ask if you've applied there previously.

I just submitted a couple days ago and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the blanket question... am I wrong about that? do you remember where it was

there's no blanket question on reapplying. the only blanket question is whether or not you've "matriculated".

I'm interested in this too. I'm taking my mcat on Thursday and planned on submitting my application early next week. If I only apply to one school, and am unhappy with my scores, can I retake at a later date and apply next cycle to the remaining schools and not be considered a reapplicant?
Somehow I feel this can't be the case.
