Hi everybody, just wanted a few more opinions on my particular situation--

So this cycle I'll be a re-applicant, I'm currently in a SMP and it will be over at the end of July (my official transcripts will be ready end of July or early August). I've received advice from a few advisers and a few adcom members and of course, each person has a little bit different take on things. The school I want to attend has told me that waiting to apply in this July-August time frame would be best since I'll have my master's degree completed... which I think I will do.

What is your take on this -- agree that it's better to wait a little later to apply (late July/early August) but with masters degree completed or disagree and apply ASAP and send in updated information (will be a pain, but hey, I'm definitely willing to do it if need be that way)?

Thanks 🙂

My application was complete at the end of October last cycle and I got 6 interviews (out of 15) with a a 3.5 and 19AA. Of course this is n=1.

This is a difficult decision and ultimately must be made on your own. I'm a strong advocate of applying early. I was in a similar situation. I sent all my top choices an official transcript after summer classes and applied within the first week the application cycle opened. However, if you already were advised from your top choices to wait, then I would do so.

I would submit right away. You will only have two courses or so from summer that won't be on there, right? You can also use the academic update as an excuse to bug schools in the fall!

Apply ASAP. The 2 or 3 courses you have in the summer won't drastically affect your GPA by much at all. Being early is like taking a number at the DMV. For schools like Case Western, if you aren't in an earlier batch, it's hard to get an interview before Dec, and when I was invited in October, their interview dates were already scheduled into early Jan. You really don't want to wait around. The earlier the better.

Thank you all for your advice! 👍

I think what I'm going to end up doing is apply in June when 1 of the 3 summer classes I have ends. It's applying in June (which is still considered early I believe) and it'll make me feel better about getting one more A on my app... and then the two other As I can send transcripts into schools that will accept them before the academic update.

You can even fax over the unofficial copy of those 2 classes. A lot of schools will accept it. And then it gives you a reason to do a follow up call like a few days or a week later to ask if they've receive it

Yeah! This is what I have in mind and hopefully most schools accept unofficials to look at before the real ones come in. Thanks 🙂
