Did you recieve invites and then get rejected/waitlisted post december? If so, how many interviews did you go on and what do you think held you back from acceptance? Or did you simply not recieve any invites at all?

I'm just curious. Thank you.

I received none last cycle. I thought that it was due to the fact that I was late ( Nov applicant). Apply earlier this year and only got 1 invite so far. I am starting to think the otherwise about why I did not get any last cycle. 🙁

Applied 2 cycles ago : 0 interviews. I was very upset and felt like I won't make it, ever.
Applied this cycle : 5 interviews . I am grateful and happy my hard work paid off ..... at least i feel like I have a chance to be a dentist.

To all of you with no interviews: learn from your mistakes, don't get discouraged, build a better application and keep a positive attitude. It will take time, money and support to do the above but your hard work will pay off, I promise you that. GL

Thank you, MAdental and Teryiaki, for your responses. I have a feeling I'm just being paranoid, as I have interviews, but I'm scared of december rolling around and me sitting there with a pile of rejections and waitlists on my hands :/

I have one interview this year. Same place as last year but have increased my dat from an 18 to a 20 and I am working at a very well known dental research lab. I feel good about the school I am interviewing at, just wish I had a few extra interviews to go along with it! However I didn't get my application submitted until sep 1 because I wanted my current boss to write me a good LOR

You ain't alone ! It will all be sorted out soon :scared:

I am a re-applicant and had two interviews and was waitlisted at both of those schools last year.

What do you think was the reason for the waitlist?

I'm not sure. Probably a combination of a somewhat low GPA (3.3), kind of low observation and service, and being a fairly introverted person. I upped my observation and service hours for this application cycle and have one interview so far. One of my interviews last cycle was very late in the game (April) and so there were likely very few spots left when I interviewed there. Really, though, it seems to me that if you get an interview, you are good enough on paper. Then it is just about whether the school views you as a good fit for its program. But that's just my perception.

I had an interview at my state school (MUSC) last year, but wasn't accepted. The admissions specialist went over my whole application with me afterwards and told me that the only thing that he saw that could have kept me from being accepted was my DAT score, which wasn't very great. He said my interviews went great, so that is the only thing he could see. So I re-took the DAT Sep. 4th, scored much much higher, and landed another interview there. I also applied to Georgia Regents University and UNC. Interviewed in Georgia a few weeks ago. Haven't heard anything from UNC. So I'm just hoping for the best!

What did you do differently?? Did you retake the dat or enroll in master program?

Third time applicant here. I got no interviews the first year. Second year, I got one but ultimately rejected. This year, I am sitting at 8. The only thing that really changed from last year is my DAT score and personal statement.

Applied last year and got 3 interviews, 3 wait lists, and ultimately 3 rejections. Beefed up the EC's and improved the GPA a little bit and got 5 interviews this time around. Hopefully not 5 wait lists and rejections..

Were they 3 predecember interviews?

Must been tough....

My first two times applying I didn't recieve any interviews. This year I have four

Ya all predecember. My app was complete mid July if I remember correctly.

This is my third time applying!! Only applied to NYU prior cycles and never received interviews..seems like my destiny is not in NYC =(
Took DAT 3x, undergoing Master and added outreach trips and volunteers, better personal statement and NYU still not giving me a chance...ridiculous!!

So, you think it was your ECs and grades that held you back when it came to acceptances? You'd think they would weed those sorts of issues out prior to the interview.

This just makes me even more paranoid.

Well my grades barely increased but I think I was at or slightly above the average my first time around. My EC's were really where my application was lacking but I saw people with similar if not less than me get more interviews and eventual acceptances. From what I picked up after talking to schools after my rejections it seems like the real problem was me doing undergrad in 3 years. Even though I was classified a senior at the time of my interviews I guess they were still viewing me as a junior. Then again I could just be a horrible interviewer and they didn't want to tell me that lol But ya I have no idea why I would get interviews if they didn't like the way I had structured my undergrad coursework.
